Jazzy,
Yes, good morning. Sarcasm in greeting? laugh.gif I had a tight schedule today and dropped flat immediately after dinner.

Don't quite know about new attendees; on my end here been 'persuading' my colleague to join us in our session. Let's hope most if not all the T-ampers and potential ones will join us - certainly a good learning experience for all in my view.

Morning! biggrin.gif
Yep it's RE Spares! And my guess was right! (4-5 shops away from Maplin) wink.gif

I am voting for same time/venue and obviously the same kind hearted host! laugh.gif
Eventhough I have something on in the morning, I am confident that I can make it at the anticipated time..
Any new attendees than the previous list?

Y.C.,
It takes one to know one! ehem! wink.gif

I might be bringing a friend also a forumer here. He is also a T-Amp user but the DIY amp was made and given by his friend. He might be bringing his other gear(which I have forgotten what tongue.gif) just to share with us..
Definitely looking forward to this saturday..

Jazzy,
It'd be nice to meet new friends and forumers in person; I'm in as far as more people coming for our t/t session this Saturday.

We also get to hear Xtorm's tube pre-amp? I'm looking forward to that as well. biggrin.gif

Xtorm,
Thank you. NIXIE is located along Jalan Landak; take the a turn-off next to the complex on Jalan Pasar.

wow some nice build there Y.C. ........ still i cant figure out where is nixie................, time to find nixie then biggrin.gif

Ekool,
Hope you take no offense to what I've commented. Jazzy just pointed out that he spotted a similar casing as mine at Nixie asking for RM46.XX. Do check it out if you are any keen.

Previously I had only shown the external rear pictures of my second T-amp, now some internal ones:

Attached Image Attached Image

I have again replaced the stocked caps on board: the input ones with Vishay Roederstein MKT1822 2.2uF 100V metalised polyesters (word of ERO is missing from the caps) and those on the power rail with Panasonic FM 470uF 25V electrolytics. These latter caps sound so much different from the stocked 470uF 25V caps supplied with the latest batch of T-amps.

I have been listening quite a fair bit to my second T-amp after the caps' change and my conclusion thus far is that my discrete attenuator contributed a substantial difference to the T-amp's sonics, tonal balance included. Without my attenuator, I would not have raved so much.

Another picture of my second T-amp from me:

Gabanyayaya, I agree that the legs of the speaker binding posts are way too looooong, perhaps I should consider sawing them off later. You were also wondering what system I have in my office, here you are: JVC UX-5000 Ultra Micro Compo as featured in the second picture above.

Jazzy and Metalmania, the pictures posted by me this afternoon were taken with an my old trusted Sony Ericsson handphone; I believe that was more or less the best picture-quality possible from it. The pictures above were taken with another more 'canggih' mobile phone of my colleague.

Alright, I have a question for you guys, let's see which kind samaritan could help me. I installed a 3V LED bulb to my second T-amp using a resistor value of 1K ohm. Upon powering up, the bulb light just seen life for a split second and it went dead thereafter. Am I adopting the right value for resistor?

You can use this:

What was your voltage input?..hope it wasn't AC voltage

Thanks, bsl

I am using a 12V DC 2.5A 'computer-notebook-styled' SMPS, so I reckoned the input voltage is 12V DC. I have measured it previously when music was playing and the DC voltage fluctuates only a little to the max of 12.6V (if my memory is not wrong).

I tried using the website calculator, and keyed in [12] Volts for Supply Voltage, [12] Volts for Desired LED Current, [2] for mA and [1] for leds connected, and it says "Error: Supply voltage and the led forward voltage can't be same, Supply voltage is not strong enough to drive the led(s)"

But when I subsequently keyed in [3] Volts for Desired LED Current, the answer I got is 4.7K ohm.

Admission, I do not really know the value in mA for the smallest LED sold in JP which I used. I guess I need to sort that out myself. Thanks again.

input 12V, 3V drop (since u say yours is 3V), 20mA current

For 20mA, I got an answer of 470 Ohms and if I am using 1K Ohms or 1000 Ohms resistor, technically resistance is sufficient unless the bulb did not went dead but instead not enough current to power it up.

You can easily test any LED by forward bias with a multimeter, it must light up. Simpler still, test with a 1.5V dry cell battery.

hi Y.C.,
When you said your LED went dead, dead as in fused/burn out?
1K should more than sufficient(based on calculation)

Bro March,
Will you be bringing your 'goodies'? wink.gif

I think plan wise is that the start time is at 3pm.. dunno about the agenda.. will take it as it goes..

Oops, sorry for being able to log in now only.

Our first T-amp t/t session, originally scheduled to be held on last Saturday but postphoned to tomorrow, would be held at the same venue and time mentioned last week, ie. at USJ 10 of Subang Jaya and from 15.00 - 18.00 hours. Agenda wise, it would be an entirely informal affair and I shall leave it to all who are present tomorrow to determine what we will do next apart from listening to our various T-amps and having our teh tarik, nescafe tarik, root beer and snacks plus tidbits.

As mentioned last week, I shall bring along my Sansui CDX-310 CD player and one of T-amps. Bro March05 is kind enough to supply us his sand-filled speaker stands and a pair of Heybrook standmount loudspeakers which I personally believe our T-amps are capable of driving them well. For those T-ampers coming tomorrow, kindly do also bring along some of your favourite CDs that you would like to hear through the various T-amps.

Folks who have indicated their interests in coming to our t/t session last week and are coming this week, IMO, are:
(1) Jazzy
(2) Gabanyayaya
(3) March
(4) Xtorm
(5) metalmania (are you coming?)
(6) wui223 (are you coming?)
(7) PCwork (could you make it this week?)
(8) Ongbs (coming down to KL and at the same time all of us the T-ampers could meet up?)
(9) Grandspy (are you coming? I dare not sms you coz you may be trying to stay away and stop complaining!)
(10) Ekool (are you available tomorrow?)
(11) Y.C. (could you guys believe that I actually left out myself earlier on?)
Did I missed out anyone? If yes, please do not feel slighted and I hereby officially extend the invitation to you now.

On another related matter, I believe my LED bulb has indeed 'DIEDed' from the sudden insurge of current during powering up. Perhaps our T-amp sifu Jazzy or other sifus could help to look at my configuration tomorrow after our t/t session, no big issue to warrant further discussion here since our gathering is just tomorrow. And I really do look forward to tomorrow. rclxm9.gif
