Hi,

im a potential new comer......been eyeing scuba diving for a while biggrin.gif fun to read the past 4pages....... so basically
there are 2 famous sites

i) malaysianunderwater
ii) malaysiandivingcommunity

hmm.gif

last nite during earth hour laugh.gif had some sort of family dinner....so i asked some of my relatives about this.....we were just talking about this...they had taken the license......might follow them in future.....I think scuba i nice with friends.......my gf is also interested in scuba.......now need to hunt for the best price.....and time.....

my Q
1) what month is good for scuba in tioman (i find that mersing is most closed to my hometown)
2) i can swim....but not so good.....I can float.......200meter?hmm....1 x swim pool is how much again? sweat.gif laugh.gif

my target is to do dive around perhentian/pangkor/tioman/bubu/lang tengah before I turn 30 in a few years laugh.gif then only continue other places like sipadan/mabul/great barel reef/ philipines/maldives/carrabians brows.gif and other nice spots......

regards,
new diver in the making biggrin.gif

Any Suggestion For Accomodation In Sipadan Or Nearby

Not Diving Kaki...

I dont think so that you can go to Sipadan if you are not a diver....... sweat.gif Because daily diving quota is only 150......I read in the net somewhere......

Most of the owd courses are 3d2n or 4d3n,
but they do not hv pool training, theory part also conducted during the trip...

We'll complete the pool trainings and theory part @ KL.
At tioman, basically we need to do 4 dives only, maybe plus some practises.
According to my friends, it's quite good for those who do not want to apply leave.
Anyway, i would like to get more advise from forumers also.
Is 2d1n really too rushing for 4 dives? (1st day will reach tioman in early morning)
*
then i'll opt for 4d3n....1 extra day to relax n enjoy the beach biggrin.gif

thanks man.......i think it's best to take AL, since scuba diving is a serious/ extreme sport........ sweat.gif dont want to rush into things do we...+ how often u go to tioman tongue.gif

*

i did some research on this matter as well...all pointing to pulau payar....... + another border thai site....and i concluded that its not worth to dive in Langkawi sweat.gif not sure if its a hidden secret to keep divers out of that place...99 islands no nice dive sites...mcm x logik >_>

many divers said it not worth dive @ payar... i think better you go to Koh Lipe, Thailand just 1 hour boat from Langkawi but around RM200+ return.
*
so are u agreeing with me in saying that Langkawi diving is crap? tongue.gif what for u go to langkawi end up dive in koh Lipe..might as well camp/stay n make koh lipe ur main destination rolleyes.gif same said to samui, if i knew i would have just stayed at the islands near to the diving site....

so any reasons why Langkawi has not much diving sites? unsure.gif or is it people have yet to discover it...any marine biologist here? laugh.gif hmm.gif

This one. smile.gif Some say it's the best wetsuit out there. Main benefit for me is that it's very much easier to wear compared to normal wetsuits, and it gives as much protection as well. For me, putting on my wetsuit is the worst part of my dive. laugh.gif If I go without a wetsuit then I'll feel cold and insecure. Lol.
*

+1 .....normally i just rent it....

so far the sharkskin how much u get?

global scuba quoted me
Sharkskin promo b4 31jan:
2. Long sleeve (without zip): RM 500 (N/P: RM650)
3. Full suit: RM 1000 (N/P: RM1300)
4. Long pant: RM 500 (N/P: RM650)

but didnt take it during that period....thinking of getting it sometime in may..hope they will have another promo or other places sell cheaper then 500 ...plan to take 2pieces instead of a full suit..so i can mix match with others tongue.gif

Next to Ogival shop - Sun Paradise. They carry quite a range of swimming wear and accessories. Try checking out their prices.
You can also go to Jusco or Parkson swimming/sports section.

Remember to get slightly lower than your specs power, or you'll be floating and dizzy when you wear it. laugh.gif
I bought my full suit from Global Scuba. So far it's the only dive shop that brings the Sharkskin range into Malaysia. Got it for RM1000 as well, around August last year. That time already they told me promo price haha.

Have to admit, it is super comfy. A little cold in the water sometimes but it's windproof, damn chun. After night dive come out, wind blow also not cold lol.  tongue.gif

Most guys will prefer to get 2 pieces instead of the full suit. Can wear with surf pants if water not very cold. I check the prices if I buy online from Australia and get someone to bring or ship it back, it's not that much cheaper, maybe like RM30-50 like that cheaper for the full suit. If you do find someone that is able to get Sharkskin at lower price, let me know. I'm thinking of getting their booties.
*

Thanks for the review.

im a new diver maa.....so this will be my 1st wetsuit...already have a scuba Pro rashguard (or whatever u spell that) haha..... + 1 arena long sleve( doh.gif ) also comfy wear..haha..from pool to sea..haha.....sharkskin wetsuit simple looks/sounds tempting..sick of renting those wetsuits that i have to adjust my weights whenever i dive sweat.gif

Sharkskin is my 4th wetsuit lol. I have tons of rashguard but usually just wear my short sleeve Ripcurl under my wetsuit. Scubapro rashguard quite thin, you can wear it under your sharkskin if you afraid of cold.

Why not get the top piece first, I doubt you'll need to wear the bottom piece unless you can't stand the cold. Most people just wear rashguard and shorts go dive anyway.

yeah, wonder if I wait till MIDE/IDEX maybe can get good deals perhaps brows.gif
