Btw, anyone here dived at Krabi (or islands surrounding it) before? How is the vis?

I have dove Krabi using Kon-tiki as my guide. Visibility around 20-30m and Hin Daeng/Hin Muang or Shark point are top spot there. A bit far to travel but its worth the journey.
*
Thank you sir, just wanna know how long does it take to reach Hin Daeng/Hin Muang from Ao Nang (by speedboat / long tail boat?), and how much does it cost for transportation, how much do you pay for a dive (with gear rental and boat)? smile.gif

Thank you very very much!!!

Hi all, sorry to butt in, just wondering if anyone has dive in Myanmar / Mergui region, am planning a trip there next year (probably May - June) so I may head there for some dives.

Problem is that when I search the internet, all I see are liveabroads dive trips catered towards ang mohs that costs about 60k baht onwards for a 6 day trip. =___= Anyone has dived there which cost less, and within a shorter time frame, perhaps 2 days?

Thank you very much!! :3 Any help/tip/guidance will be much appreciated!!

sorry sorry, it means westerners!! XDDD

ADDED: Wanna know has anyone here had the chance to come in close contact with a whale shark? If yes, where and when? I heard that there's a chance to bumping into them at Lankayan and around Mergui.

hey guys!

check this offer by berjaya tioman... http://www.berjayahotel.com/flyer/tioman_ticd_oct2011.htm

Seems cheap. Anyone can verify this is cheap?
*
Not sure if it's cheap as like blackwhitechipsKL pointed out, you'll have to pay for transportation to Tioman.

Bf went there last month and he said that the vis isn't exactly good, if you're planning to go, it would be best if you ask around for reviews from those who've just dived there. biggrin.gif

QUESTION: Has anyone dived at Miri? Any recommended dive sites? What are the best times to dive there/time to AVOID diving there? Price range? biggrin.gif

Sorry to sound like an annoying noob, searched the forum but couldn't find any related post. sweat.gif Thank you all so much!!

Dayang is a very small island. I think there's only 2 resorts there. Most of the people that go there go with their dive centers. Are you going on your own or you're looking for dive centers to go with?

I went to Dayang with SiputScuba. Around RM790 for 3D3N inclusive of meals, ferry, bunk bed 12 person per room accomodation and 7 boat dives. I know they do go to Dayang quite often.

Prepare for the 5 hours midnight boat ride to Dayang arriving there in the middle of the morning.
*
Thanks for your reply, I'll go check out SiputScuba in a bit. Am going on my own and packing my bf and some friends maybe. smile.gif

the boat ride..... is a real agony sweat.gif but it's worth it!! XD

As miuk said, depends on individual.
I wear my full suit most of the time cause I not much fat to protect me from cold and I get sejuk very easily. However, at times, I also do dive with just a rash guard over my bikini.

One more reason I prefer full suit is because I got stung my jellyfishes before and it's not a fun thing to experience. Some corals may also look harmless but do give you a burning sensation andden a rash afterwards.

Most of the guy divers I know go in rashguard with boardshorts cause it's easier to wear I guess.
I know some fat divers just go in their boardshorts also got.
*
I gotta agree with that, I had a near contact with jellyfish...... almost got stung. Would go with full wet suits for protection's sake, well... bf was bitten by a triggerfish during our most recent dive shocking.gif

But he was totally unharmed (not to mention unaware, fella didn't even know he got bitten sweat.gif ) all thanks to a full wetsuit.

Btw guys, sorry to jump in in the middle, but I'd like to know how to pee underwater........ >.< had this problem since my first dive, and I hate holding a bladder full of kencing when I'm in the midst of enjoying my dive. Bf did told me (jokingly) to try peeing while standing, on land it's ok but I fail badly underwater.

Sorry, I know that this sounds disgusting but I just had to ask. Anyone face similar problems? Help?

Dunno how it's like for girls, coz you traditionally pee while seated. I just let it go and enjoy the new-found warmth within my wetsuit laugh.gif
Overcoming the initial pressure takes some getting used to though.

However, I don't think it is something anyone can teach you to do. Imagine if a guy came up to you and asked you how to pee on land. How would you explain it? You just go la lol.
*
LOL that's practically what I was told..... thanks for the advice. XD Blame my awesome potty-training

Btw, was thinking of getting a dive torch since rental's a bit too pricey (after multiple rentals), any recommendations? Possible to get a reasonably good one in the RM100 - 150 range? smile.gif Thanks, and sorry for asking so many noob questions.

Wow, that triggerfish bite must have been quite an experience! I wouldn't want to experience one!
My sister got bitten by a triggerfish once, and it went thru her booties and her 3mm wetsuit at her heel there. It was when she was almost at the surface somemore. So she took her fin off and whack the fella send it flying back down into the ocean. Lol.
My bf almost had a near encounter with triggerfish during my recent trip to Redang too. It was trying to pick a fight with us but luckily we swam away quickly.

As for peeing, just pee I guess? I don't hold my bladder full. When I started diving few years ago, I tend to do that and it actually gave me quite bad and recurrent UTI. So my doctor advice me not to hold it in when my bladder is full.
Takes some time to not be so self concious and let it go underwater while diving but you'll get used to it. wink.gif I find it easier when I'm horizontal and not standing.
I heard it's one way some divers keep themselves warm as well. laugh.gif

I've heard more disgusting stuff la. It seems there are ppl who feeling like pooping underwater then they just go behind a coral, remove their wetsuit and do their business there.  rclxub.gif

Dive torch, try waiting for MIDE and see if they have any good dive torch on sale. That day I saw in the other diving forum about some China-made dive torch bought at Petalling Street, around RM80 or so only it seems. Might wanna give it a try.
O_O that sounds scary, I hope your sis' injuries aren't serious!!

Thanks a lot for the tip about peeing, gonna try it out! Btw I don't hold my bladder intentionally, I actually tried forcing it out numerous times but it felt like I'm gonna berak instead x_____x Tried and practised pee-ing while standing (on land) and it works, strange tho..

Thanks, I didn't know what MIDE was till now, hope to check it out! Was told to check out ADEX this year (as it's nearer to where I'm at), might have discounts.

About cheapo China-made torches.. I've read reviews on Taobao that they only last for 1 dive. sweat.gif My sifu bought some too, and they're as good as disposables.

220 can get a good LED torch already. Saves alot more in terms of battery and its brighter + white light.

Dont go for those normal bulb types, eats battery like sheet.

Just for comparison, I have a SL4 which is modded to use a Cree LED, 320 lumens per the LED spec. Uses 4x C size battery. From new till now have not changed the batteries, which is like already 2 years old with >10 dives and land use.

I have another 220 lumen LED torch which uses 3x AAA batteries. Can last around 3 dives before needs changing.

you can probably get a one for for around RM250 (and that would be good enough for most stuffs). i got a UK C4 which has 2 bulbs, and i got it like ages ago from hobi sports, which has now closed down. got it cheap at RM180. nowadays, they come out LED, and i think that's much better, although pricier. spend a little more and get a bigger torch, rather than those small ones.

@miuk & blackwhitechipsKL
Guys, thank you so so so much for your replies, muchas gracias biggrin.gif I'll keep that in mind, though I wonder where to get these in JB... Btw, for torches, do they come with warranty? Sorry... super noob here >__<

Also...... are there many sandflies? :S

Thanks a lot biggrin.gif
