About diving course, i heard PADI is the best.
*
mellow.gif i wont say it's the best or it isn't. it all depends on budget and understanding before taking either body. there's other board, other than SDI or PADI. i would say probably the most good teaching body is SSI, instructor there wont let you go for practical or written examination without a lot of practice, and it's probably the most expensive for open water license, my buddy spend 3kplus plus practicing in pool in bangsar, IIRC it's not even including his trip to boat dive @ terengganu for practical exam.btw, the president/head/watever u call it, for the SSI board @ malaysia is a general officer of the military.lol.

i took SDI instead of PADI because, PADI has written examination IIRC, and i think practical is much more important than writting those theory, lol. nowadays, a dive com do all the calculation, plus there's no time for you to count underwater during emergency tongue.gif it all depends on your own choice.my opinion is for open water, advance, rescue. not for instructor level, they need theory a lot tongue.gif

biggrin.gif PADI around 1.2k for the course itself havent include lodging

SDI cost roughly around 1.4k including lodging @ redang tongue.gif

anyway, pelangi resort @ redang is setting up project awareness, to clean up the island underwater world. anyone attending? whistling.gif

do u mean we need to show our diving cert if we want to buy the equipment??
*
u don need to show dive cert, what he mean is, go diving thru dive shop (agency) ,dive shop not just sell equipment, they arrange dive package and trip as well, if u r interested to go learn diving, dive shop can arrange too. and those stationed in dive site company is called dive center/ dive shop too.

by the way, just in case someone ask, u cant go dive whenever u want, it's not just illegal, and u are risking ur life without dive master around, and the oxygen tank only can refill @ dive center, so, buying own equipment n drive urself without license is basically, a joke.

by right the dive centre will not sell you any equipment at all without showing your diver card.
get your terms right.... you ARE a certified diver right?
you don't breath an Oxygen tank. what a diver breath is air.... compressed air.
while a certified diver is actually trained to dive in buddy pairs. not necessary with a divemaster.
*
i was trying to tell in a easier form, i tried telling ppl compressed air and they know shit about it,they only know it as "oxygen tank" wink.gif

and no, what i mean divemaster is a professional to guide u when and where to dive. buddy too will get lost sometimes.

btw, so far i havent encounter any shop wants me present dive license when i purchase,malaysia/non-malaysia. =/ bought bcd and wetsuit oversea.

i have already booked accommodation and air tix for perhentian end of May b4 school holiday. it's not the cheapest coz my friend wants a slightly more comfortable accmmodation!

i got a quotation from a dive centre in pj and it's rm950 for padi open water.... isit expensive? is it possible to get 850 or 900, preferbly around pj or subang area.
*
if ur resort got dive centre contact there mayb?sometimes they offer SDI license so don have to travel here n there and 850~950 is around market price

is there any package that is for 1 person only? i'm a female n single, and  i notice that its only me (around my cycle - im a programmer = everywhere pc ) that is willing to save up money and spend on this incredible adventure. such as ZERO to open water OR ZERO to advanced open water. thinking of getting to dive master but have to see the budget. i 've search around for and read all the post here about the pricelist and all that, but seems there's no package deal? i'll be very veyr grateful if anyone can guide me around, and im not in rush though coz i have still a long way to go until i save enough money for this.

just came back from my redang trip.

1st of May -> Not so much of what i expected, mostly family trip.
all auntie with bikini or full of tattoo and smoke, no hot chicks

went for shore dive but with a spoiled mask so terpaksa end the dive earlier,
under water full of open water student laugh.gif
conclusion, from boat view full of orange/red/purple life jacket, under water full of legs and bulu kaki laugh.gif

2nd of May -> still lotsa snorkeling, sea of life jacket and legs inside water, manage to dive in pulau kerangga and black coral garden, nothing much special.still the same conclusion with lotsa life jacket n kaki inside water

3rd of May -> wake up 6,30am and leave island at 7am just to see bumhead fish, with a lot of luck we manage to see them inside a group (sleeping gua)

and bonus is manage to capture photos of it + sea turtle laugh.gif

people still leaving redang island and in a sudden it turns quiet again.

4th day, end of this diving trip and went back to KT.

edited : will post photo later, a buddy bought along G10 with casing to take photos biggrin.gif

mellow.gif although im not sure they offer OWC not,but they do have advance open water. have a friend who did her advance there under NAUI. sipadan is beautiful but the price is like going oversea for a malaysian.

visit own country's island but paying at ang moh price, i would rather pay and go manado, at least im really going oversea.

its like the pulau aur and pulau dayang case, because they are nearer to singapore, they basically charge at singaporean rate even for malaysian.

Hi,
We are the resort operator of Redang Pelangi Resort (redangpelangi.com)

We have our own dive centre, and our Open water dive course (PADI or SDI) is RM850/pax (package price if you stay at our resort). You would need a stay a minimum 4D3N if you would like to complete the course.

PM me if you need more info.

Eric

Hi guys,

I have a question in mind. I read thru this thread and notice that the only person authorize to coach/teach OWC is PADI Instructors and NOT Divemasters.

I would like to know if we/I have the right to request the Instructor to show his/her PADI Instructor license as a confirmation?

Kindly advise.
*
Actually you should ask for their license as confirmation but be smart, ask in a way that wont offend them. but most the time if you call resort/dive shop to arrange course, it will be definitely a instructor who will conduct the course itself.

after all, scuba diving industry is about reputations. laugh.gif

i doubt you can get free license by observing sea turtle or clean the environment. it needs rental for gear, registration fee, and boat rental fee to conduct, if a organisation can have such money, they might as well just use the money to use it on better side? as for the dive centre owner, i don't see a reason they want to spend their time and equipment for free. its not 2hrs thing to conduct/rent a gear out, its at least 4days at minimum..furthermore, most the time non-diver volunteer, they do some beach cleaning, observe sea turtle or gather tourist's signature..i never see them actually gear up...

the last time i heard was from SOS/releigh if not mistaken, you have to gather donation of 3k in order to participate in sabah. and that also i didn't heard the participant get free license at the end.

get in west malaysia at lower rate (include lodging n transport)

then practice here too until your buoyancy is good at cheaper rate.

then only pay higher price and enjoy beautiful scene in east malaysia or oversea.

just my suggestion.
