Yes, 3D2N is not enough,even if its 4D3N you will need to sacrificed your midnight for studying/quiz . Normally you have to do 5 Confined Water Dives & 4 Open Water Dives and also 5 Sessions of Knowledge Development (which you need to study)...

And of course, you can do your course at pool, but you still have to go for 4 open water certification dive trip. By doing your course at a confined pool,  you can save a lot of times and worries...So during your open water dive, you can already get used to it...
P/S : Most of the dive master would recommend that you take your license in confined pool. So that before you go for your open water trip, they would already analyst your problem/mistaken and could correct you before trip, and also save your time doing everything in 4 days... My advise is, the same 

Yeah, agreed, the quiz is very very the easy. Even if you failed (choy), you can redo it again and again and again until you pass without having to pay extra. That was what has been told by my instructor... 

I did my theory and confined water course in 1Utama and open water course in Pulau Redang.

My diving course is RM900, 4D3N in Redang costs RM429. Just took it last year in 2008.

Right after the course I went diving in Bali and Sipadan!! Sipadan is really an underwater paradise.

if you are talking about a PADI Open Water course you stand corrected.
there is a a skill which requires the candidate to swim for 200m.
so you actually need to know how to swim.
but more importantly the individual MUST be comfortable with water!

yes i would suggest you do so. most dive operators in the city has a fixed schedule. so unless you can fit it. most of them will not accomodate.

just a tip for newbies learning to dive. u should ask around whr to take up your OW diving, especially with divers or divemasters. Recently, a group of newbies took up diving in sipadan for OW course. this was actually my friend's sport club (from a particular bank). i did advice her to take it up from the neighbouring dive center, but the organizer being a newbie in diving insisted to start OW in sipadan.

unfortunately, later i found out that the whole group (about 20 pax) took up diving with a divemaster and a rescue diver. (and they didnt even know it). for the first confined water dive, they were put with 6-8kgs of weight and practically forced to sink (9m) in mabul islands. prior to their 3rd OW dive to sipadan, they didnt even know what an rdp table was and how to calculate it.

i m an advocate for safe diving practises, and i do enjoy watching newbies getting excited abt diving. but, diving has its risks and limitations and a newbie be aware of them, thus begin learning the correct basics in the first instance.

Hi all, just wanna ask some question here. Is it a good idea to go for a diving trip in any island in the east coast during the Hari Raya holiday? will the dive shop be closed during that time? or too crowded?
