Hi,
I have heard some ppl mentioned that when you are taking the course at the island resorts...you don't have much time to relax the 3d2n holiday. All you do is prep for the dive course.
Can one take the course at a confined/controlled area (ie pool) before heading to open sea for the actual dive?

QUOTE(juniorkirk @ Feb 9 2009, 01:11 AM) Hi, Yes, 3D2N is not enough, even if its 4D3N you will need to sacrificed your midnight for studying/quiz . Normally you have to do 5 Confined Water Dives & 4 Open Water Dives and also 5 Sessions of Knowledge Development (which you need to study)... And of course, you can do your course at pool, but you still have to go for 4 open water certification dive trip. By doing your course at a confined pool, you can save a lot of times and worries...So during your open water dive, you can already get used to it... P/S : Most of the dive master would recommend that you take your license in confined pool. So that before you go for your open water trip, they would already analyst your problem/mistaken and could correct you before trip, and also save your time doing everything in 4 days... My advise is, the same Appreciate your input. I intend to take the test/quiz and do the confined pool before heading to open water...cos i want to fully enjoy my time diving at the resort rather than spending nites reading up on material. Free and easy. If i were to take the license at the pool....would the cost be cheaper or pretty much the same? thanks

QUOTE(shelynssl @ Feb 13 2009, 02:48 PM) Yeah, agreed, the quiz is very very the easy. Even if you failed (choy), you can redo it again and again and again until you pass without having to pay extra. That was what has been told by my instructor... I did my theory and confined water course in 1Utama and open water course in Pulau Redang. My diving course is RM900, 4D3N in Redang costs RM429. Just took it last year in 2008. Right after the course I went diving in Bali and Sipadan!! Sipadan is really an underwater paradise. .:My Bali Trip:..:My Sipadan Trip:.Heya, Is the dive center at 1U next to a bar? everything would b taught there eh? how many days would the confined course be? QUOTE(kimseng @ Feb 16 2009, 11:55 AM) if you are talking about a PADI Open Water course you stand corrected. there is a a skill which requires the candidate to swim for 200m. so you actually need to know how to swim. but more importantly the individual MUST be comfortable with water! I can swim...any style oso can ar? Katak style oso can? haha.

I have visited some of the dive centers around my housing area....looking to take Open diver certification. But timing is a problem.
I intend to take the course in confined waters during the 2nd or 3rd week of April and the diving sessions around 3rd or 4th week of april.
Can any of ya recommend a dive center that can match my time?
thanks.

I just got a quote from one the dive center. RM2000 for the course and 4d/3n at redang. This is confined water training in klang valley first then certification dive at redang.
I went to a few local websites that offers the course at the resort, took a look at their itinerary and it wasn't good. it's 5d/4n but for the whole duration of stay..u spend most of the time going thru the course. and 2-3 dives. but i can say that it's cheap...about RM1500-1800.

Since I can't find enough people for my diving course. Should I take the course at the resort's dive center? Since they can provide the course with just 2 people.

QUOTE(kimseng @ Mar 16 2009, 02:45 PM) yes i would suggest you do so. most dive operators in the city has a fixed schedule. so unless you can fit it. most of them will not accomodate. yeah..i would think so too. But doing it in "locally" would be ideal. Taking the course at the resort is too hectic and don't think we would actually enjoy the time there....spend whole day reading and learning. Any suggestions?

QUOTE(blueray @ May 5 2009, 01:08 PM) agree with kim seng. just a tip for newbies learning to dive. u should ask around whr to take up your OW diving, especially with divers or divemasters. Recently, a group of newbies took up diving in sipadan for OW course. this was actually my friend's sport club (from a particular bank). i did advice her to take it up from the neighbouring dive center, but the organizer being a newbie in diving insisted to start OW in sipadan. unfortunately, later i found out that the whole group (about 20 pax) took up diving with a divemaster and a rescue diver. (and they didnt even know it). for the first confined water dive, they were put with 6-8kgs of weight and practically forced to sink (9m) in mabul islands. prior to their 3rd OW dive to sipadan, they didnt even know what an rdp table was and how to calculate it. i m an advocate for safe diving practises, and i do enjoy watching newbies getting excited abt diving. but, diving has its risks and limitations and a newbie be aware of them, thus begin learning the correct basics in the first instance. Geez...that's practically suicidal. I made it a point to take it in a confined pool and went at it again and again...till i'm comfortable and have all the basics 2nd nature to me. For anyone thinking of taking up diving....don't think about saving a little money....don't do it in a rush or just because it's cheap. If you think you can't cope with being underwater or slow in learning....take the course at a dive center that trains you till you are practically a fish.

hey all, My wife and i are planning for diving at the Red Sea off Egypt in April....i know..it's gonna be awesome. Anyone been there diving before? Added on January 28, 2011, 11:59 pmQUOTE(Misteripunyaolang @ Jan 28 2011, 06:46 PM) Hi all, just wanna ask some question here. Is it a good idea to go for a diving trip in any island in the east coast during the Hari Raya holiday? will the dive shop be closed during that time? or too crowded? just as long it doesn't fall just before the monsoon season. Sea will be rough and possibility of dive cancellation will be higher. Go during low peak...say end of march and april. This post has been edited by WildChai: Jan 28 2011, 11:59 PM

Just returned from a dive trip with my wife at Koh Tao...fantastic island to dive. Wanted to do 8 dives with 4d3n but settled with 6dives. 700baht per dive equipment included.
One of our best dive trips so far. Petted a hawksbill while it fed. Saw loads of other marine life. was hoping for whale shark...another group saw it few days back.
I would recommend this island if you intend to dive at gulf of thailand.
