This is purely my own opinion and i don't want to step on anyone's tails especially island based DCs.

Anyway, i would recommend to start off with pool sessions to "level up" your skill first. Some schools (such as the one i go to) will let you have as many pool sessions as you need until they think you're stable enough to go out to the open ocean. I only did 2 sessions, i know people who did 5.

Once you are ready, just follow the school out for their planned trips. All you need to do is your basic OW skills and BAM, can start diving.

As for my experience, i did my OW in KL then had my exam in Lg Tengah. Was an amazing experience. At night while we are partying, can see the students who are doing their entire course on the island, studying.

This sucks. Any experienced diver will tell you that after 4 dives in a day, the last thing you want to do is study. I also hear that this will result to people losing interest in the hobby cos it becomes an unenjoyable experience.

My 2 pence. I hope you enjoy diving as much as i do. I've only gone on 1 trip and am taking my AOW already biggrin.gif Will be heading to Sipadan in 2 weeks and then to Tioman in early April.

p/s: you can check out malaysian underwater forums http://malaysianunderwater.com/smff

Alot of people offering courses and such there. GL!

guys, i'm letting go of a new (>95%, worn only for 1 trip) mares x-stream fin (size S) as i wanna get a pair of split fins instead.

This fin is really light (about 1.2kg) and requires minimal finning to move forward

Am selling it really cheap, so if there's anyone interested, do PM me.

I have these fin as my spare, indeed its a great fin. Why do you want to take split fin instead of this one? I understand if you are moving from split to X Stream but I didn't get an idea you have to change vice versa.

ah, am looking for something heavier and i have apollo split fins in mind

Care to share what you have got for that price?

yes, i'm also keen on knowing cos a good reg set would come close to that price range but you seem to have gotten all your gear for 4k

Bear in mind that MK2/R295 is unbalanced regulator. My advice is, better buy balanced regulator like Apeks Flights or XTX 50 which have better value.

Added on April 20, 2012, 5:38 pm
I have previous regulator, XTX200. In term of performance, Apeks XTX200 win over MK25/A700. From what I gather, XTX50 are the best overall because of the price.
*
yeah was actually looking at xtx200 at first. the best price i've seen so far is on ebay. first stage, second stage and a xtx40 octo goes for about rm 2k

Yes, and the deeper you go, breathing will become harder. Mostly you will notice the different when you go 32m++ and low pressure about 20 bar left. Actually its depend on you. Apeks Flight is just RM2200 complete set which come together with Miflex Host. XTX50 also very worth to go if you don't mind normal weight high end regulator. My opinion, I would invest extra for regulator.

I bought xtx200 swivel from Scuba Planet last year for about 2.6k complete set with xtx40 Octo and Apeks flight SPG. If can wait for MIDE, it would be better price usually. Last year during MIDE this set goes about RM1999 complete set.

ya bro, am waiting for MIDE biggrin.gif

I have. Website that I have bought were Diving Express HK, Scubastore and Leisure Pro. Most of the item have limited warranty and you cannot claim at local distributor.
*
leisurepro doesn't deliver to msia unless you do a TT. Did you deliver it somewhere else?
They have an extremely good deal atm, scubapro mk25/a600 for rm 1500

too bad they don't deliver here if you pay by credit card

East coast then I don't know any.
But if you're in Klang Valley then got a lot of instructors here. My instructor also mandarin educated but he's located in Klang. Sorry can't help you there.

Might wanna search online or drop by any dive center you have in your area. Usually Chinese instructors will be able to teach in cantonese.

which dive school in klang?

do u have any information centre based in kk? not planning to stay at pulau gaya .how much will be the total cost , i already go through most of the web , is it true cost will be around 1340 if at kk ?
tried inquiry for mabul , the flight tix almost double than kk , thats why i prefer kk now .
so what's the total budget require if in thai and indonesia?
prefer to be below 2k including accomodation , flight , and course
*
bro, 2k including flight, course and accomodation is gonna be tough to find

Since you are only doing in november, i would suggest a cheaper and a more beneficial alternative (in the long run)

Start taking your confined classes in KL in November. Slowly do it, spend some time in the pool and get your skill up. Wait till season starts and go to the east cost. With the budget you have, you can easily do your open water trip and 1 additional trip...

that's my 2 sen
