Hey there iPhone first generation users. I think its time to defend ourselves.
We have seen that most iPhone users are selling their iPhones to get the 3G ones. But, is really our phone ain't good. Prices start selling at RM1200. To me this price is ridiculous. We should deserve more than that. Like let say RM1600 and above. I'll list reasons why.
1. Our phone is no longer in production but still demand is there. 2. Our phone serves us fantastically well. 3. If there is any software problem we can fix it ourselves through iTunes no cost incurred. 4. iPhones are easily updated with the help of Dev team this means it does not go obsolete. 5. The differences of price between iPhone and iPhone 3G is wide how can it be? RM1500 with RM3200. 6. The differences between EDGE iPhone and iPhone 3G's functionality from the user guide at apple.com/iPhone, I can see that 90% of the content of the user guide is same.
This is just some of the facts I can think of at the moment and I'm sure that there is more reasons why we deserve more than just RM1200 when we sell it out as second hand.

QUOTE(obee @ Aug 8 2008, 04:20 PM) I can only think of better web surfing speed and a new body for the Iphone 3G. The rest I've got it in my trusty 1st gen Iphone. Still loving it. Correct me if I left out any extras for Iphone 3G. GPS bro haha

i wont sell my iphone at rm1.5k eventhough i got it less than rm1.3k. it's so worth and i cant get any better phone at rm1.5k. so really no point selling it at rm1.2k. maybe that iphone has some problem, who knows?

lol. selling at 1.2k is merely for fast deal. then when one person offer such price, then another seller wanna sell it fast willing to let go at RM1.1k start. and from there the prices will go down as demand is low while supply is high. which is also 1 of the reason why i cancel my sales in the 1st place back then.
Again, some said they can get cheaper i3g, hence they wanna sell their 1st gen to fund for the new i3g.
is not that our phone isnt good, is just the seller wan fast deal leads to our despair. for me, i can wait for i3g until next or so. its not a big deal if i get i3g or not; if i got it, i will appreciate its 3g service more. and this is the only phone that never made me think of selling (previously is because i had a deal for 16gb)
Added on August 8, 2008, 4:55 pmjust if every seller stay firm on, let say RM1.5k - 1.6k for a full set 2nd hand iphone and a lil patience, things will surely change.

dear TS,
u cant stop ppl from change new phone...they have their right to sell their item at any price they want...all depend on the buyer are willing to buy or not...
i also use 2g iphone, i agree with you that 2g iphone are collectible item. it will be an antique after 20 years as this is apple first phone...do you still remember motorola tai ko tai? now ppl are willing to pay rm5k for that phone...

i LOLed when i look at this thread.
1. Do you call Potong Saga 'limited edition' since it stopped production already? 2. Potong Saga serves their driver well too, still can drive them from one place to another. 3. If it serves you so well, why it there a problem in the first place? 4. Can you guarantee that the support will go on forever? Eg : Fat PSP custom firmware have lesser support than PSP slim now right? People tend to forget about the pass and move forward. 5. Price is subjective, it may costs a lot for you or some low income earner and students, but for those who earn 5-6 figures income, an entertainment meal may costs more than that. 6. Mercedes and Potong, in order to turn left and right, both cars also have to turn the steering, same with iphone, same functionality doesn't mean same quality.
Cheers!!!

For whats worth, there's no other phone that can offers me what the iphone can for now.. For 1.2 or 1.5k, there's no way you cant get a multimedia orientated phone like the iphone can, plus the reason the price went down drastically is also caused by Malaysia not lauching the 1st gen, and for the 3G, the price will definately reach till 1.5k by 6-10 months.. I'll stick to my 1st gen iphone till the 3rd gen comes out..

I already try arrange a meetup to testdrive the iPhone 3G, but everybody either too busy, or shy to meet me( I dont know the reason why, I dont eat people lah!). Once you have fondled the Aifontriji, you'll see that it is not plastic at all! It's plastic. A very strong kind of plastic. I'm no material engineer or anything but everyone knows there's a huge range of plastics so using the generic 'plastic' term to describe the back of the iPhone 3G isn't wrong. Check out WWDC 08 keynote 1:26:13 "It's beautiful. This is what it looks like. It's even thinner at the edges, it's really beautiful, it's got a full plastic back, it's really nice". Added on August 10, 2008, 7:24 pmedit to add: I've played around with the iPhone 3G quite a bit, and stringfellow's right about the back not feeling like a typical plastic mobile phone (like Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones). However, at the end of the day, it's still plastic This post has been edited by lailaikatong: Aug 10 2008, 07:24 PM

Do whatever you guys want lah, it's your money. I certainly wont buy the Motorola phones no matter how RAZR-thin they are, because I cared more about what the my phone can do, than what dimensions or material used to build it are used. No skin off my back, and not my loss either.
I'd like to assume all this "plastic, therefore the Aifontriji is no good" statement is more of an excuse not to upgrade because of you have just recently purchase an Aifonej, but I dont want to look or sound like I'm dissing the Aifonej. Like Seaedge's sig says, the Aifontriji is a great phone, but the Aifonej is as good as well.
I better stop getting miffed at these one-liner statements, Apple hardly pay me anything to do their defending. I just dont like blanket statements by folks who had hardly seen or used the Aifontriji in person to simply disregard the Aifontriji's strong points, just because it looks plastic. You couldnt get any shallow than that.

I agree with what string said, plastic or not, its the function that counts.. The thing underneath it is what matters, i also have a Razr with me, but othet than the solid body and thiness, that phone is crap..
But i believe Apple wont use cheap ass plastic to protect whats beneath.. Right guys?

It's already been discussed and pointed out that the aifontriji back is not plastic. Its somekind of a ceramic hard shell coated in a glaze that make it look like plastic. Try googling it yourself coz i don't have the energy to dig my brain for the source.

If my memory serves me right, Steve did say the iPhone 3G "has a gorgeous plastic back" during the recent WWDC. But well, probably that is in laymen's term. He is not gonna say that it is a "ceramic hard shell coated in a glaze that make it look like plastic", is he? That'd be too confusing and boring for a keynote.
But really, even if it is plastic.....so?

If you think 1st Gen is good, then keep it, why bothered how much it worth. It worth a lot to me. That's what important. If iPhone 3G not your type for whatever reason, wait for iPhone 4G or 5G if all you like, there's always a newer generation, it will never end. "Complaints doesn't work in here."
I remember, when 1st Gen release, ppl complaint it doesn't have 3G. When 3G out, ppl complaint it's plastic and doesn't have front camera. WTF.

Even when a perfect iPhone comes along, there will always be something to b1tch about. Most probably the price. Funny thing is, these complaining folks never did consider to buy it in the first place, but only come in to b1tch and moan.

Debating weather the 3G iphone has a plastic back actually is not that important but rather how it can serve you. As long both generation phone serve you well, get's the job done, we are good.
Owning an iphone is already a luxury..good to be a owner of a iphone.
Next target phone is 3g iphone.

Look at the 1st gen's price when it first comes here.. RM2399 for the 8GB, plus unlock RM2499.. And after less than one year, it's RM1300 now.. The rules have changed.
The price will not drop to those levels, the benchmark is not USD199, but the price for buy outright ones. And these are never less than USD699/NZD1129. Unless your seller is willing to get a plan for every single iPhone 3G he is selling, you will never see the price dropping to that level.
The only other way you can get the price down to the current iPhone EDGE prices are either black market units, or second hand ones. The cost of getting an iPhone 3G with plan at the cheapest alone is more than RM6000. Nobody's willing to sign that amount of money away just to help you get one for the price you wanted. (RM1400 thereabouts)
