He's soooooo excited coz Microsoft actually limits the RAM recognition in Vista Starter Edition to just 1GB. Soooooo theoretically u can only use 1GB n more than that it's a waste.. That's why he's sooo happy..

yeah on paper Vista Starter edition limits 1GB Support
but practically, it doesn't limit it. I'm using starter edition because it's preinstalled legally in my PC. also it "limits" 3 programs opened at 1 time. but using some tray minimizing utilities, i can run more than 3. I like the idea of starter edition being fast and consume less resources than other vista editions. well actually i'm just lazy to upgrade to other vista version :-) other than that, it supposedly limits support for CPU. like, not all CPU can be used. But according to microsoft it supports Athlon X2. screen resolution : no limit network : I don't know why wiki says not accepting network incoming. cause i have hosted FTP and used bittorrent. Maybe u can't use workgroup file/print sharing, haven't tried so basically its just like Home Basic, but limited CPU support and 3 programs limit. Well Vista isnt that expensive but still ....
I sometimes ask myself WHY OH WHY did i buy legit when microsoft literally makes it so damn easy to "activate" Unless ur computer is crap. Other versions of Vista wouldnt stress it too much . I alt tab between wow and war3 dota , have my itunes on, download on bittorent and i can still surf the net =3 This post has been edited by omnimech: Aug 8 2008, 10:28 AM |

Could you try loading a huge video (say a 1.2GB MOV file recorded from your videocam) and running it? Then check the memory usage for that app from Task Manager. That should give a clue on whether the usable 1GB limitation is in place. Please share the results with us. Thanks! Btw, from Microsoft's own web site, two places say that 1GB is max and one from MSDN say that "4GB" is max. 1) http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/newsroo...aStarterFS.mspx 2) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-v...quirements.aspx 3) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa...s_windows_vista --------------- |

Oh man, I really really wanted to try Vista Starter Edition - - its the only edition of Vista I have not tried ! (I own Premium, Ultimate, tried Business/Enterprise during Release Candidate period...).
I bet it will fit my little cousin's machine... I dunno why, I always feel that Vista Starter Edition is like Vista: Kids Edition ! "Its the Vista edition you don't take seriously..." |
