My dad is addicted to Feeding Frenzy 2. He plays too much until my old Pentium III just died an hour ago. I'm thinking of giving him my Pentium 4 and buy another Core-2-Duo at about RM1500.

Performance is not my concern. Not playing game, I just want my PC
-to last as long as possible
-no heating issue (no aircond & run for days never shut down)
-may buy a 24" LCD, so better got HDMI and a standalone graphic card.

Core-2-Duo E7200 (2.53GHz, 1066FSB) RM395
Seagate SATA HDD 320GB RM185
Kingston DDR2 RAM 2GB (PC6400) RM135
DVD-RW RM90
TOTAL RM805

Still left about RM700 to buy

Motherboard,
casing/ power supply &
graphic card (dunno enough money or not).

Any recommendation?

will AMD generally last longer and run cooler than Intel? I just use it to watch movie, do some office stuff and store data. Performance is not my concern.

i think you should post this in the hardware section. (:

u'll get better opinions over there. or you could head over to www.goldfries.com and use the pc buying guide. really good reference guide. the prices are abit outdated but the specs still apply.

IMO, go for intel. and you can probably get a motherboard with an onboard graphics card so you dont have to worry about spending extra cash on the graphics card. (;

if you're really tight on budget then use the given PSU with the casing. but i'd suggest you get a good psu. probably a coolermaster or acbel or something. around 450w. will be about 120 bucks.

im assuming you've got the other peripherals as your dad's pc will also have those things so you'll only have to rebuild the rig.

any reason why you're interested in a 24" with HDMI? want to play ps3/xbox? haha..

btw. one of those 24" with HDMI is gonna set u back probably 1200 at best i think.. probably more. not cheap.

cheers.

Thanks for your precious opinion.

Reason I want a video card, base on my past experience, is that the movie with a onboard card looks washed out, with a video card, the colour is deeper and run smoother. Since I may buy a 24" LCD monitor later, I'm worried the onboard card can't support high resolution. I don't play games, then I think VGA/ DVI should be enough already. If the price difference of motherboard/ video card WITH or WITHOUT HDMI is not significant, then choosing one with HDMI will be more future-proof. I can put up with minor computer lag, but good viewing experience is my top priority, since I'm looking at the screen, not the casing.

Another thing that came to my mind is more technical to me.
-If I choose processor with 1066FSB, can I pair it with PC6400 DDR2ram (800Mhz only)?
-Now many HDD and DVDRW are 'SATA' or 'SATA2', so I must buy a motherboard with SATA?
