You mean the supermodel Ami?

She is not going to be the third wheel. In the novels, she becomes Ryuji's good friend, guiding him to understand girl's feelings. She also subtly hinted that Minorin is not his type but Taiga is. Vol 7 is where Taiga realises her feelings for Ryuji and Minorin have a confrontation with her in vol 8. Ryuji did make progress with Minorin by then.

Well the anime can be different from novels. Who knows.

But as far as I know, Ami is just a teaser good friend not a relationship material for Ryuji.

No, not at all. It is more Minorin versus Taiga in the end.

The story also turns into very serious drama after vol 4. No more comedy slapstick after Vol 4.
