I'd like to share some of my first desmodium (blue bells) with natural deadwood.
Still in training progress.
This is one of the most favorite species in our country ( beside Ficus benjamina, wrightia religiosa , Antidesma ect)

Hi Protowira,

Wow! What awesome materials you have!  drool.gif  rclxms.gif
Desmodium, especially with natural hard wood is something that could hardly be found in our country.
I understand that many temperate tree species can be found in your country, can pine species bonsai also
be commonly found in HCM city areas?
*
HI
Pine species bonsai can be found in the city but not commomly. Some imported form Japan. Local pines are not beautifull because of long leaves.
I also imported 100 small black pines two years ago. They grow well in the city.

Zabel84x2

I sympathize your friend's father. His bonsai look lack of maintenance, now become more like garden plants. Can't blame.
His Prenma requires some fine crafting works, will than look fantastic.

If you really want to spend some money on bonsai, I propose something like the followings.

Prenma Microphylla

[attachmentid=3236049]  A small size easy for maintenance, price +/- rm120 at Sanfong.

[attachmentid=3236054]

[attachmentid=3236089]  Probably rm300++

Why not get a cucur attap.

[attachmentid=3236058] Get one without dead wood, easy maintenance for beginner. Price rm300 ++

[attachmentid=3236059]

Since you have limited space, I suggest you get one of each, Premna and cucur attap. Put them on the highest stands in
the middle of your place, than arrange others, of coarse medium and small size around them. sure your will feel great with what
you have that way.

( The idea is plan your displace, than look for what is suitable in term of species and sizes, and bonsai stands is also an important part of it.)

HI Zabel
Is premna popular in your bonsai community?

Beautiful triphasia trifolata you have! rclxms.gif
Importing a hundred J black pines, are you a bonsai trader?
*
Well well. I am an amateur. Not a pro trader. I bought young JBP in order to train them in local weather. There is not winter. The kind of tree that i like very much. I d never thought that so easy to grow but still learn how to decandle how to defoliage at the right time indeed.
How is popular JBP in your country?

Hi bonsailelong
I got some buxus harlandii
Pitctures below showing the two mother trees look very bad.
The two young trees got from airlayer look OK.
I still do not know why the mother trees got seriouly bad young and old leaves aswell.
The media a used is the mix of fine sand+ volcanic sand + some burnt clay
Do you have any comment about that ?
Tks

Hi Proton-wira,

Concerning about your boxwood, firstly I would like to say is I don't know much about the climate up there in your region.
All I can tell you about boxwood is growing in the hot wet climate in my country only.
Boxwood is a fiber root plant and grow well in loose soil with higher humus content but not water logged. During the dry season it got to be well watered.
I found that it grows better in a shallow wide pot rather than in deep big pot. Boxwood is absolutely an outdoor plant but can't be exposed to the hot blazing sun full day.
My boxwood are placed in between 2 palm trees and the hot afternoon sun is sheltered off. They only expose to the morning and evening sunshine.
As for application of fertilizer, I use urea-N46. dissolving 2 table spoon full of the N46 in 3 liter of water and apply once every 2 weeks. urea N46 give extra nitrogen
to all the plants and make the foliage greener, look fresh and healthy.
By looking at the photos of your boxwood, I suggest you look into the roots of your plant. As boxwood is fiber root plant, it can get root diseases easily. If so, you will
have to re pot and change all the soil. Or ... could it be over application of fertilizer? On the whole, I suggest you re pot your boxwood but try not to cut away much of their roots.
unless they are infested, and cut away all the dry branches and let them grow again.

Good luck to Buxus harlandii !  icon_rolleyes.gif
