QUOTE(zabel8484 @ Feb 6 2013, 11:26 AM) I got this from ibonsai forum about japanese black pine, hmmm... interesting, can try... but waiting for 20years... OMG i will be 'ah kong' oledi... " about 20 years later, and from seed [ Japan, a gift pack posted to me,] I would say no. Additionally, a German guy also told me that the Japanese Black Pine grows all the way down onto the beach in Japan. You may wish to check and see if the Japanese Black Black wasn't originally a Chinese Black Pine and if it came from the coastal area of South China. What may give you problems is translating the training information from Japan to tropical conditions and responses. I have several pines and every year add on a few more seedlings, just to keep figuring out the training technique. I live in the Caribbean, and we have a pronounced dry season from January until around May, growing cooler by October until say February[ lowest normal night temperature 19 deg.c and lowest recorded temperature 15 deg.c ] Daytime is a standard 30 -> 33 deg.c as summer comes on. Breezy island. Soil mix is mostly crushed silica sand [ 70 % ] and compost. Testing the use of crushed, porous, eartheware red brick, from our local brick factories. Gives excellent drainage. Growing containers are simple, peasant made earthenware lowfired red brick round flower pots, up to 16 inches wide [ 41 cm ] and 5 to 6 inches deep [ 12 to 15 cm ] Placement full sun with a light zephyr. See if you can contact Leo de Leon [ Manila ] as he is also growing Black pines. Hope this helps. Khaimraj " I think i would buy some seed and just try out, the seed are about rm20 for 5+ seeds. anyone want to try together? |

QUOTE(zabel8484 @ Feb 7 2013, 07:09 AM) Graham potter from kaizen? yes i have been following his videos in youtube lately. Truly brilliant, but the trees are some hard to find here locally. Even the materials he got are great. I am ordering the seed thru ebay myself, not need to trouble you again, or else you have to post to me time wasted, extra charges wasted.. btw, as i wrote this post, i have already bought a 25seed pack of black japanese pine from the ebay US 5 mins ago.... So about the black pine, Bonsailelong and Stephagorn is in, G400 you in? Yes i'm buying from ebay, since i'm buying. I'll help you guys buy in the order. It'll be about rm20 for 5+ seeds. It'll take about 2week or 3 for it to reach. Are you guys ok with it? You can pay me when the seeds arrived. So will be meeting you guys for ho min Yuen after CNY.. How i wish i can join you all on the visit to Ho Min Yuen... This post has been edited by g400g400: Feb 7 2013, 09:06 AM |

QUOTE(Bonsailelong @ Feb 6 2013, 09:36 PM) Hi g400x2 The specie you have is actually a type of shrubby juniper called Juniperus Procumbens. In Chinese it's called "sleeping pine" but it's not a pine specie. This specie of juniper is not a good material for bonsai. It's only "interested" in growing thin, long and side way. And for it's trunk it could hardly grows up to 1.5 ins in diameter no matter how long you grow it. But to train it to become a thin trunk medium size bonsai is quite easy. Here is my suggestion for you juniper procumbens. Up root your tree carefully, use a sharp cutter cut the tree into 2 as indicated with each part with root attached. Plant them in separate pots so that you got 2 plants now. This specie has very tough life, as long as you don't cut away any roots it will grow. Let them grow for 2 months to recover then you can start you initial shaping to both of them. [attachmentid=3299416] The one sloping downwards i suggest you shape it into a cascading or semi cascading style. For the other one maybe you can try to shape like these. [attachmentid=3299420] or [attachmentid=3299423] These 2 juniper procumbens of mine are still under training. I am not so happy with their shapes and hope to improve further one day. QUOTE(Bonsailelong @ Feb 8 2013, 10:52 PM) Saving A Stump - One man's trash is another man's treasure. This is a Wrighthia "shui mui" found in a dump site when I was throwing my unwanted plant cuttings sometimes back in 2010. It was an amazing found because it's a single stem 6 ins diameter oval shape stump. [attachmentid=3301752] However only one side of the stump had got roots growing from it and the middle part of the stump had began to rotted. [attachmentid=3301758] The rotten part was scrapped away and the wound was brushed with a coat of bituminous compound to prevent further rotting or it might not have a chance to survive. [attachmentid=3301762] then planted [attachmentid=3301764] After 3 months... [attachmentid=3301765] August last year, I transferred it to my planting yard in order to let it grows faster and develop a better root system. [attachmentid=3301766] Will let it grows for at least another year before start thinking of how to shape it. (Any suggestion of shape to it at this stage?) QUOTE(Bonsailelong @ Feb 13 2013, 09:55 AM) That is the common characteristic of cheap Fukien Tea from China. The cuts and scars that can never grow back. You can try scrapping off the rotten part, treat with sulfur lime solution and brush and cover with a layer bituminous compound to prevent water from entering the woody part of the stem. |

QUOTE(Bonsailelong @ Feb 17 2013, 11:21 PM) A VISIT TO MIN HOE YUEN - "Forwards" After making an appointment with my Melaka bonsai buddy to meet the next morning at a place beside a supermarket early in the morning, I started my journey down and arrived at the appointed location a little earlier, and at that moment the call of mother nature was high, and so I just parked my car beside the super-mart and answer to the "high" call at the toilet of the mart. It took about 3 mins+ and I came out.... [attachmentid=3310055] ...alamak ! a rm 100 parking summon ! The MPMB parking officer was still around, and so I asked him why he issued me such an expensive summon, I went off for a short while just to go to toilet only. Without speaking a words, he shown me the double yellow lines just beside my car. I can't argue anymore and just drove my car to a parking lot nearby. Immediately I moved my car, another 2 cars moved in and parked at the same location that I have just parked. [attachmentid=3310064] .. and the people left their cars and enter the super-mart. The MPMB car parking officer was there, just looked on. At this instant I just can't tolerated anymore and I walked over and asked the officer why these cars were not issued summons and only issued mine. This fellow, he just ignored me and walked away and disappeared himself at a corner of the building. When I looked at the 2 cars, they are Melaka plates. Then I began to realize..... Do Melaka cars have special privileges ? Definitely - NO! I think this MPMB officer is waiting for the car owners to come out and ask for coffee money for not issuing summons to their cars, as for mine, I'm from oustation, so he give me the most expensive summon to show his superior that he is doing his job! SO, THIS IS ONE MALAYSIA ! OR ONE MELAKA? |

QUOTE(Bonsailelong @ Feb 17 2013, 10:42 PM) A TRIP TO " HO MIN YUEN" First of all I would like correct a mistake which is unintentionally make all the time. [attachmentid=3309922] It's "MIN HOE YUEN" BONSAI NURSERY. We got it "up side down" This is my Melaka bonsai buddy - young, dyminic, enterprising and full of potential. [attachmentid=3309926] Min Ho Yuen bonsai nursery was actually on a single piece of land of approx. 5 acres. A Pokok Mangga double lanes drive way was built cutting right through it and now it's divided into 2 sections. I visited the first section of Min Ho Yuen under the guide of my buddy Zabel. Accroding to him this is the place where we can actually but some materials of reasonable prices. So we move on... [attachmentid=3309943] A welcome gazebo at the entrance. Lots of old and gigantic junipers [attachmentid=3309944] [attachmentid=3309945] [attachmentid=3309948] [attachmentid=3309950] West Indian Cherry [attachmentid=3309953] Cascading Juniper Precumben. [attachmentid=3310028] Some young black pine. Not sure is Japan or China? After buying 2 nos of young black pine, a round lotus pot and a bottle of bark growing hormone, we process to the second section of Min Hoe Yuen. This is a "must" visit section. [attachmentid=3309991] The entrance, looks nothing extra ordinary. Once enter, it's another world.... [attachmentid=3309996] [attachmentid=3310000] [attachmentid=3310002] [attachmentid=3310006] Cascading Buddha Pine [attachmentid=3310007] Causurina [attachmentid=3310009] Brazilian Rain Tree [attachmentid=3310011] And hundreds of "shui mui" [attachmentid=3310014] [attachmentid=3310016] [attachmentid=3310019] If your are looking for large and gigantic bonsai materials, this s the place. If you have a big garden and look for bonsai style landscape materials, this is definitely the place. BTW, bonsailelong how much you bought the Black Pine? is the price here cheaper then in sanfong? |
