Seeking advise again..smile.gif
My another pot of shui mei which i did the air-layering..
It comes initially with a lot of branches but not all branches are with leaves...
I have botak it and now the leaves are starting to appear...does this mean branches which does not produce leaves now can be consider dead? So better to remove them? The new leaves are gradually appearing on different branches...how long should i wait before i can be sure the leaves are done sprouting and i can start to cut away branches without leaves?

Be patient, some shoots may appear a bit later.
Give it another week to 10 days.

Lantana is a different species. Lantana have many different colors and leaf is soft. To me Mirten leaf is like fukien tea leaf except it looks pricky and deeper color. Leaf is hard.

Oh mirten another name is singapore holly i think.
*
thumbup.gif

Well, let's get this "Holly Affair" right.

The small purple color specie Chinese name called " chee wei " 紫微 is actually Malpighia pinicifolia. common name - barbados cherry.
There is a bigger similar specie called Malpighia glabra which is usually planted in between the Malaysian road divider.

Here's another " chee wei" for sharing.

Attached Image

Another specie called Malphica coccigera, common name Okinawa holly or also called Singapore holly.

Here's 2 photo of my singapore holly, one without flower and one in full bloom.

Attached Image Attached Image

For info, "chee wei" require full sun, can only grow in open area. whereas Singapore holly is a half day specie, can place in balcony but not completely indoor.

Hi Nzac,

Those white dots looks ok to me from the photo. You can brush them off by using a hard brush if you wanted to.
And I suggest you do some trimming to your premna and post a photo of it after that and see what can be done next.

Hi Bonsailelong..

Ive trimmed off the Tree this morning as per the suggestion. Here,s the photo.
*
thumbup.gif

The good point is your Premna is a very old tree. However there are too many disorder branches.
You need to thin out those branches, it's difficult to suggest which branch to be cut off. If you can post
up photos from 2,3 directions, I may try to suggest.

Hi soonhee,

A little suggestion to your newly bought shui mei.
Do a little more uniform trimming to the branches and cut off the lower branches of one them.
For Sing $ 10 each less than RM30 each, those are very good buy.

Hi Bonsailelong,

Thanks for the guide once again...the cut for the 1st & 3rd photos i understand...only cannot figure out which branch you referring to on the 2nd photo...is it same as the lowest branch on the left of the plant in the 1st photo?
*
thumbup.gif

The 2nd photo, wire and bend the branch a bit horizontal in the direction indicated..
the 3rd photo, cut off the lowest branches.

I have got some queries..actually it is just a plan...open for discussion.
for the lowest branches on the 3rd photo, i understand removal is to review the trunk of the plant...
My plan is..dunno can work or not...slowly raise up the plant to expose the root by a bit so that as time goes by..the base of the plant will expanded showing the roots..(hope i didnt remember wrongly, are you the one who advise cutting away the main root and placing a stone under the plant?).
if we raise the plant...the length of the trunk will automatically increased, so if we cut the current lowest branches, will the trunk looks too long when we raise the plant to show slight exposed root..
I am not very good in expressing the plan...hope you can figure out what i am trying to express.
Do you think the plan will work? Can shui mei roots be raise this way?
I know adenium can...shui mei i not sure...but if can, will it look nice?

The purpose is to have a slight taper angle from the trunk to the soil..refer to attached drawing..

Re pot to raise the main trunk above soil level is not a good option.
You can re pot and place a hard object below the trunk to develop a good nebri.
will try to post a photo illustration if I have time during the week end.
