Seems hard to find quality Huang yang bonsai photos on Google. The boxwood search are different kind of tree. Here the Huang yang got nice old wood stems n the one on the net seems like sui mei's stem.

Well Bro,

What I can say is... get a young Buddha Pine about 10" high, I'll try to show something what you can do to with it this weekend  doh.gif
Or alternatively, get a ficus. Ficus got  natural bonsai shape which I think should be much easier for you.

[attachmentid=3274201] Ficus grown from branch cutting like this costs about rm 8 over here. Just cut short the branches and keep the overall image in a cone shape,
when the leaves grow back you can re pot it in a rectangular flat bonsai pot. (Bonsai in less than one month)

kk, thanks for all your help ( and other forumer as well thumbup.gif ) ~ and sorry for making you busy blush.gif

There are many boxwood species in this world with slight difference from each other,It's all depends on which regions of the world they are growing.
You can go to Google to find out more.
The one commonly found in our country is Buxus Harlandii with beautiful cork bark like stem and natural old looking.

Thanks to Malaysia, the country with so many public holidays! rclxms.gif
Spent the whole morning doing a Wrighthia giving it the initial "Larch Style" shaping.

This Wrighthia "shui mui" was potted about 8 years ago, because of it's vertical stem that gave me an idea that
one day I'll want to shape it into some thing like a Larch.

Attached Image

Attached Image ..lots of careful brushing works to do to clean up the stem and branches.

Attached Image A wound was created when it was potted.

Attached Image Deepen, enlarge and elongate the wound, than give it a slight touch by a lighter, then brush with lime sulfur solution.

Attached Image Now still in the original pot

Attached Image ... and now the roots..

Attached Image Front.

Attached Image Back.

And now for it's size. But something is still missing, it doesn't has a nebari, a piece of flat stone was places under the stump before planting into the new pot.
Hope that can help to form a good nebari in a year or two's time before further shaping and transferring into a smaller shorter pot.

We usually by cutter from hardware shop.
For a beginner, straight cutter like this should be good enough.

Attached Image

This costs rm18 over here. There are same type of cutter like this costs only rm7-8 but simply won't last long.
The fertilizer you bought earlier should be good for Buddhist pine. N15 P15 K15 is meant for tap root trees and Buddhist pine is tap root specie.
Remember never over apply! Or you will cry.gif
Any tree, young or old when planted in a pot with some shape is "Bonsai".
I've got young Buddhist pine about 10" tall but I'm only free on Sunday to do the initial shaping.
And after the 1st shaping, it probably can be called as "pre-bonsai" and you should take care and maintenance it to become a bonsai.
At the same time, get more trees or more bonsai .. Hei hei hei hei hei.......... biggrin.gif (injecting bonsai racun) brows.gif brows.gif brows.gif

Pink color one is flowering hormones and the blue or purple one is for fruiting simulation.
Just put about 10 "biji" of the N15 P15 K15 around the stump of your plant fortnightly, every time you water
the fertilizer will dissolve slowly into the soil. icon_rolleyes.gif

Can you post a bigger photo of your ceder to show it's trunk.

SG BULOH TRIP

Heard from a friend that there are Black pines and maple for sale in one of the nursery in Sg Buloh.
Drove for an hour after work to the place and hope can shop for one or two to add to my collections.

The first stop is at a bonsai and flower plant nursery beside the highway just before reaching Sg Buloh town.
This nursery is in long narrow piece of land in between the highway and the Sungei Buloh. (river)
It've got a row of gigantic China ficus along the external side of the fence.
When asked about the Black Pine, the nursery boss's son show me a place where he kept about 15 pots of them.
The Black Pines look like just gone through an adaptation period, some with new spores of needle leaves.
But when asked about the price......guess what.. shocking.gif rm800 to 2k.
Oh My goodness ! doh.gif sweat.gif I am still thinking of the rm200 black pine that I bough several years ago from the Chinese traders.
" Wah ! why so expensive ? "
" Don't you know how to see, they sure can grow, the ones that can't grow have die long ago."
So, my rm200 budget to buy a black pine is actually blush.gif cry.gif
I didn't take any photos of the black pine and walk on to look for maple.
Found few maple, already very seasoned to grow in our climate.

Attached Image Attached Image

How much ? rm180 to 300 ! rclxub.gif doh.gif mad.gif
And so I left this place and move on

( to be con't)

Hi infrasonic

You got a very healthy Buddha pine.

I think this example I've done can suit your tree.

Attached Image This young tree is multiplied from cutting from one of my bigger tree.

Attached Image Cut away all unwanted leaves except the branches.

Attached Image wire around the main stem and make the first bend.

Attached Image Wire the longer branches too and make some branch shortening movement.

Attached Image (Front) Cut the leaves shorter.

Attached Image (Back) Will let this young tree grow in the same pot for at least 4-5 months before re potting and further shaping.

In your case, your young Buddha pine has got few branches along the stem. There's good.
Always leave the branches at the concave side of the bend and cut away any branch at the converse side.

See whether you can do something to your cedar like this as it grows. Cut away the small lumps if you don't like them to be on your trees.

Attached Image

If you can't find aluminium in your place pvc coated wire like this should do because your tree looks big enough.

Attached Image

I usually use aluminium wire, 2mm and 1.15mm in diameter. the brown one is softer and the black one is slightly harder.
I suggest you can contact San Fong Bonsai and get them to post over to you the wire you want.
