haha..i tried finding in the nursery and only managed to find one with N15 P15 K15

the nursery i went to doesn't seems to have boxwood, so i bought this instead..just wanna if this plant is possible to be bonsai, and the name of it..the fertilizer N15 P15 K15 that i bought is suitable for it or not? can't find a suitable pot in the nursery just now so i'm buying it next week since it still needs to be left there for 2 weeks before repotting~

Hi Infrasonic,

You have bought a Juniper all right! But it's a Christmas tree juniper or call Cedar botanical name Juniperous virginiana. shocking.gif
I give your a suggestion on this tree you have bought - repot it in a bigger tall pot, tight the branches inward to form a good cone shape. The N15 P15 K15 is perfect for this kind of species but never over apply or the needle leaves of the tree will drop.
Never cut the needle leaves with scissor, you can only plug the needle leaves. Cutting with scissor will result the needle leaves tip turn black color.
Let the Christmas tree grows as big as can, read the article on Bonsai4me by Harris Harrington on how to turn a cedar into bonsai.
I guess, you might got to let it grows in the biggest pot you can find in 5 years before doing anything to it.

This is what I'm having after growing for 4 years in that big pot.

Attached Image the stump of this tree is about 4ins in diameter, hope it will grow to 6 ins before starting the first shaping.

I suggest you buy again a wrighthia "shui mui" or a Buddha pine, I believe that can be commonly found in many nursery.

Infrasonic,

What bonsailelong means is that you need it grow for 5 more years then shaping it since yours is still young.

cedars can be great bonsai, and the difficult one to master...

Hi Infrasonic,

Don't get frustrated, Zebal is very correct. when you come to a time you will want to put your hand on a cedar and transform it into something awesome.
So it's a very good start. When 5 years down the line you will find that this is one material that you are looking for.

yes and no, depends on how old or what you wan actually.
You may get the buddhist pine from the nursery maybe already 10 years already. then you may pot it and preshape it within 1month. Or if you get prebonsai material then can straight prune and shape after a few weeks.
but old timer like Bonsailelong knew how old they want their tree to be before potting. As for me( a great beginner), once the tree is healthy, i'll go potting and shaping.

Premna Microphylla or Malay name Warung Laut.
Commonly found along the coastal area of Kelantan and Trengganu of Peninsular Malaysia together with Cucur Attap.
The natural wild trees usually got large pieces of dead wood attached and so make it become a superb bonsai material.
Because of the existence of Premna and Cucur Attap, plus the artistic nature of the Kelantan and Trengganu people, many people of these 2 states become good bonsai sifu.
Go to the block " Mat Yiet Garden" you can see the talent of Abang Yiet and his works.

Well Bro,

What I can say is... get a young Buddha Pine about 10" high, I'll try to show something what you can do to with it this weekend doh.gif
Or alternatively, get a ficus. Ficus got natural bonsai shape which I think should be much easier for you.

Attached Image Ficus grown from branch cutting like this costs about rm 8 over here. Just cut short the branches and keep the overall image in a cone shape,
when the leaves grow back you can re pot it in a rectangular flat bonsai pot. (Bonsai in less than one month)

Seems hard to find quality Huang yang bonsai photos on Google. The boxwood search are different kind of tree. Here the Huang yang got nice old wood stems n the one on the net seems like sui mei's stem.
