]from what i read, black pine does not respond well 2 air layering, may take more thant a year, even the cut around the trunk can kill the plat, if u ever want to try, use bridge air layering technic or just tie a thick wire around the trunk without any cutting.
Other than black pine i olso like to plant bonsai with low light tolerence, i got 2 fig or ficus multi trunk, fuse by growing ariel root making it a 4 inch trunk but 8 and 12 in height and an umberlla plant. I olso love red leaf plant, maple is too expensive so juz try cotinus. if i can garenty survival for maple i do not mind bying, but maple is difficult b coz it need a period of long cold dormancy  about 1 month othe wise it will die after a few years.

My experience with maple.
Bought 10 maples at lelong price from Chinese bonsai seller.
Hoping that 1 or 2 might make it, but all gone ho-run(k.o).
Those maples were actually dying.
lesson learn - cheap things no good things.

Suggestion - species common name : Okinawa Holly
B M : Mirten
Botanical name : Malphigia Coccigera

Grow well in half shady area; suitable at balcony or near window.

(Will post some of my collections later)

PINE species are recognized as King of bonsai by bonsai lovers throughout the world.
Yamadori pine bonsais shown by Japan & Western bonsai specialists are simply majestic.
Back home in our country, we have our Raja bonsai too.
The magnificent Cucur Atap (Baeckea Frutescens) along side with Premna Microphylla(long life lady in Chinese)
are actually making our bonsai lovers proud.
However, the availabilities of materials of the 2 species are mostly confined at the east coast of P.Malaysia only.
Over here in the west, it will extremely rare if we can find such materials in the wild.
So "poor us" over here actually got to depend mainly on nursery and mobile bonsai traders to acquire our materials.
And vitamin M becomes the constraint.
So GROW our own bonsai from seeds or from young trees - Can do that if u have enough times.

Attached Image awesome cucur atap materials for sales (can drain quite a bit out from yr wallet )

Attached Image this Premna M - good bonsai good M.

(Share yr points of view west coast states bonsai kakis.)

Introducing a common bonsai species found in Malaysia, grow well under shade.
suitable as small indoor bonsai placing near window or at balcony.
Common name: Okinawa holy
B Malaysia: Mirten
Botanical name: Malphigia coccigera.
This species require lots of water, very little fertilizer(organic only) and have flexible stem and branches
suitable for beginner.

Hello there!

I joined in trying to find some guidelines about sowing "Wrightia Religiosa" seeds that I have bought from Singapore.
I am from Greece, Athens and the temperature right now is 21-23C min. and 32-33C max.
I have put them right away into free draining and light soil and put the pot into a transparent plastic bag. I have opened some holes on the plastic.

I have read that Malaysian cultivate wrightia and make very good (better than others) bonsai. So, will you please help me with some advice?
Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation!

I think winter at your country can be too cold for young wrightia to survive. If you have wait till spring next year to germinate the seed I can be quite sure they can grow.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, Bonsailelong!
The mean temperature during the winter in Athens is usually about 11C and minimum temperature 0-1C but this does not lasts for many days.
If the seeds do germinate and if I move the small plants during cold months into a sheltered place with ample daylight, do you think that they will survive until spring?

Sorry to say. I don't actually know.
All our plant species are growing happily under the hot sun.
Don't feel bad about this.
If you can successfully germinate the wrightia seeds and can keep the seedlings survive through the winter, that's something we are interested to know.
On the other hand why not you try to post to ask at the Ibonsaiclub. There may have somebody living in the same climate as yours whom have successfully grown wrightia from seed and can share their experience.

Good luck.

Hello, Bonsailelong!
Actually I am already a member of IBC and have posted also there. I have been told by one member who is from Malaysia exactly the same things that you have written i.e. "not sure, don't know your climate". That's why I turned to a Malaysian forum to ask smile.gif
Anyway, thank you once again!

We don't have the cold climate here and so obviously you could be getting the same answer.
