My one and only Purple Smoke Bush - Cotinus Coggygria
Propaganda from a branch cutting 4 years ago, re potted recently in a 50mm height
pot which is actually cut from a portion of a large pot. Trimmed and partially defoliated.
It will need sometimes to recover before getting back the beautiful thick purple foliage.

(I've seen a stunting gigantic Purple smoke Bush bonsai in a famous bonsai nursery but
unfortunately no photos are allowed. Anybody got the experience of bonsai of this species to share?
I'm looking forward to learn more about it.)

I saw this in one nursery in Melaka last saturday, Oasis Nursery , 1 normal garden nursery but sell big shui mui garden plants and also the limau rawit, and i saw this plant too. i think got about more than 10 pots there. Seems old. i ask the onwer , she is selling at rm50-60 per pot. can be made into med size bonsai..

Hi everyone!!

Super Sunday indeed!
I have the whole time for myself today as my wife is on training and my son is with my in laws...so ultimate Bonsai day today beside of a 3 hours company bowling tournament today...

What i did today is changing a Asam Jawa material to a larger pot and did some shaping on it..

Attached Image
This is the one i bought from MHY last 2-3 weeks...

Attached Image
Made the pot change to a larger one and the trunk twist..

Attached Image
Finally the branch shortening tech and a scalene triangle look on it...

so i think it's only the wait from now.......
2 years? 5 years? Bonsailelong?

So i think it's time for a few more asam jawa from MHY and giving them my $$$$$$ today!!!! rclxm9.gif thumbup.gif

err, what size of wire u using there? my wire around 2 to 2.5mm, so hard to spin around the branch..did that with my juniper last time and scratched off lots of loose chunks off the trunk
*
I'm using 4mm for the trunk and 2mm for the branches. FOr juniper normally need fatter wires cause they are more hard and be very careful when wiring them, don't wan to hurt the tree... do slowly, you should be able to do it. Realized that Bonsailelong always mentioned about the time he took for trimming and wiring? 3 hours of careful work... if not 3 min siap d.. "careful work" bro...

After 3 hours of careful defoliation and branches thinning.. sweat.gif

And this one, under training to become Buxus -on the - Rock ... icon_idea.gif

[attachmentid=3362734]

Is time to transfer to a shallower pot to expose the rock and roots.

then the smaller branches , i will be using the 2 & 2.5

After wiring , shaping it to a scalene triangle. Really need to look at more bonsai shape to have inspiration when shaping it...
