HI, G400x2

If you really mean business to fly over here to San Fong to buy bonsai, I will definitely help out.
But you must think of the packing that you can bring the bonsai you bought up to the plane.
I suggest you contact San Fong through Facebook and find out how they can send over bonsai by flight.

Bonsailelong, I don't know if you know.
on my way to sanfong, I'm using the mantin to kajang then semenyih road. I came across a bonsai nursery beside a fishing pond. I didn't stop to see. U go there before?

I think you are talking about Kim Loong Bonsai owned by Mr Lim a well known bonsai master who grown bonsai from seeds and don't consider trees grown on ground first then potted to become bonsai. It's " High quality bonsai and HHigh prices " tempat.

I'm into bonsai as well but sadly most of my bonsai don't survive for long. I still have about 3 healthy bonsai now. Will take some photos and post it up soon. I'm thinking of getting some bonsai for CNY. I use to buy some at those temporary shops normally at a Tesco or Giant parking lot but I don't see them anymore. All of this shops are normally from China and they will come, sell all the bonsai and then close shop. Their prices are pretty reasonable too. Is san fong prices comparable to them? I'm located in Klang so thinking of making a trip to san fong today.

Hi elmer,

First very welcome to join in.

Second I would like to share some experience of buying bonsai from Chinese traders.

Some years back when Chinese traders first came to Malaysia, I was very happy because their bonsai are so affordable I bought quite a lot like elm trees, fukien
tea, maple and at least 2 black pines.
After a year only the elm tree and fukien tea survive. I began to ask around and finally found out the reason.
Those China trees are from the north - with 4 seasons, we are all year round hot here so how do you expect some of those template climate species to survive?

So the best thing is to buy our Malaysia bonsai. Sure to survive although is a bit more expensive. ( Malaysia Boleh ma!)

Oh no wonder they keep dying.... hahaha. That explains a lot. I thought it was because I didn't know how to take care of them.

Will take your advice. So best place to go is san fong? I also saw 1 or 2 shops along the infamous sungai buloh road. What do you think of those places?

thumbup.gif

Ah Sui Bonsai & Nursery, just beside the highway on left hand side from Kepong to Sg Buloh.

Prices not cheap but standard con't compare to San Fong.

normally i just let it be in for a few weeks before any pruning or repotting.
Just let it get use to the new environment first before anything. just watering them will do until you see some new shoots coming.
Indication of it being healthy.

Hi zabel,

How's your baby elm doing? grows up to 6 ins high yet?
If so and if you are interested to train a misho bonsai on your own,
Its time to do some trunk twisting to give the baby tree some trunk movement at the stump.

Hope these can give u some ideas

kk, i'll try to find for that.. if it's something like N10 P10 K10, it's still the same thing right? since it's the same ratio..
woah N46..in wiki it says N is for leaves, P for shoots and roots. if use the N46 de will the roots and shoots grow?
i'm sorry for so many questions, just wanna know more 'bout bonsai xD

thumbup.gif

Hi Infrasonic,

It's o k that you can use any type of fertilizer. the most important point is that you don't over apply.
Over application of inorganic fertilizer will result in accumulation of soil acidity (especially in a pot)
and your plant will get leaves burn or even die.
The reasons I recommended N46 is that it can act as a growing thrill for plant. Nitrogen is one of the main
contents for photosynthesis and healthy leaves is the major factor for any plant or tree to grow well.
Over application of N46 don't actually hurt the plant but instead of growing it cause the plant to become stunted. (telling thru' practical experience)
You can actually see your plant's leaves not only become greener but also with a waxy surface after applying thin N46 solution for your plant a couple of times.
Don't worry about of the other minerals needed by the plant if you have used the correct soil mix.

Another point I would like to mention in the use of N46 is that the plant will keep on growing big leaves, that's what we don't want in bonsai.
My suggestion is that use N46 to your young bonsai until you think you bonsai is big enough than stop, repot, defoliate your tree than use the slow releasing bonsai fertilizer
that will give all the balance of N P K.
Of course once a month applying diluted N46 solution will help your bonsai look green and healthy.

Well, what I can tell is from trial and error. If u like to know more scientific knowledge about inorganic fertilizer, u can always go to Google and find out.

haha..i tried finding in the nursery and only managed to find one with N15 P15 K15

the nursery i went to doesn't seems to have boxwood, so i bought this instead..just wanna if this plant is possible to be bonsai, and the name of it..the fertilizer N15 P15 K15 that i bought is suitable for it or not? can't find a suitable pot in the nursery just now so i'm buying it next week since it still needs to be left there for 2 weeks before repotting~

Hi Infrasonic,

You have bought a Juniper all right! But it's a Christmas tree juniper or call Cedar botanical name Juniperous virginiana. shocking.gif
I give your a suggestion on this tree you have bought - repot it in a bigger tall pot, tight the branches inward to form a good cone shape. The N15 P15 K15 is perfect for this kind of species but never over apply or the needle leaves of the tree will drop.
Never cut the needle leaves with scissor, you can only plug the needle leaves. Cutting with scissor will result the needle leaves tip turn black color.
Let the Christmas tree grows as big as can, read the article on Bonsai4me by Harris Harrington on how to turn a cedar into bonsai.
I guess, you might got to let it grows in the biggest pot you can find in 5 years before doing anything to it.

This is what I'm having after growing for 4 years in that big pot.

Attached Image the stump of this tree is about 4ins in diameter, hope it will grow to 6 ins before starting the first shaping.

I suggest you buy again a wrighthia "shui mui" or a Buddha pine, I believe that can be commonly found in many nursery.

haha, i've saw many saplings there but i'm not sure which one is buddha pine..can u post a picture of the exact look of buddha pine? don wanna end up buying the wrong tree again xD

thumbup.gif

Hi Infrasonic,

Don't get frustrated, Zebal is very correct. when you come to a time you will want to put your hand on a cedar and transform it into something awesome.
So it's a very good start. When 5 years down the line you will find that this is one material that you are looking for.
