QUOTE(donki85 @ Aug 10 2008, 02:11 AM)
i am going more into wedding photography pre wedding sort not actual day

18-55 IS is the kit lens?

i thought there is no IS

anyway what other lens u guys can recommend?
*
It's the new kit lens bundled with the 40D kit and also 450D kit. Improved version with IS and much better optically then the previous 18-55 kit lens. smile.gif

Wedding photography? You'll need a flash then. Unless you have a fast lens, then flash *might* not be required. laugh.gif

QUOTE(vikingw2k @ Aug 10 2008, 02:12 AM)
What cheap lens?
Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS using the latest 4-stop-IS technology which can pawn any built in IS DSLR anytime. smile.gif

If you are into wedding, get
- a Flash - Canon 580exII Speedlite
- Ultra Wide Angle lens - Canon 10-20mm f3.5-4.5 USM / Tokky 11-16mm f2.8
- Fast Walkaround lens - Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 / Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM
*
Eventho its a kitlens, i love it laugh.gif

Hmm. Say he gets the 580EX II, T17-50 and T11-16, total cost = ~RM5k. Not a bad combo imho thumbup.gif

Yup, just not as accurate. smile.gif Partial metering should be good for portraits as it focuses more towards the center(spot metering-ish). laugh.gif
Agreed. Thinking of trading my non-IS for an IS one. tongue.gif

QUOTE(empire23 @ Aug 12 2008, 08:02 AM)
Small aperture is usually used. But, he probably uses an age old technique called "pre-focusing". Since MF lenses aren't hobbled, they have 2 things on them which AF lenses don't, a proper distance meter, and DOF markings, so, long before you want to walk towards a target, you can predict where your next victim will be when you snap, so you set the distance you like, and you set your aperture to give you some DOF to work with incase you predict wrongly. After that it just counts on your skill with your legs and timing.

Ooh okay. Thanks for explaining smile.gif Means that he has to be pretty skilled in doing what he does. Dang. Must learn. laugh.gif

Even a shutter speed of 1/100 isn't fast enough to freeze fast motion. doh.gif

QUOTE(wjie20 @ Aug 17 2008, 06:49 PM)
Well, not always actually. One would be mounted with my 70-300 and the other with my kit lens. Cause I tend to see something from far and when I change lens, a wee bit too late, but carrying both at the same time is quite a burden, lucky I have the Lowepro Nova, where I can just quickly take out the other camera.
Yeah, I guess if you want to change, it may be a bright idea to get the 580 instead, where you can use the 430 as the slave. That's what I'd do...
well, technically, it also depends on the environment. Apparently, the Nikon did quite well on their noise reduction, which I have yet to see for myself.
*
Yeah. Not gonna get another 430 series speedlite if I ever upgrade. laugh.gif Planning to do that as well, get a 580EXII and use my current 430EX for slave. laugh.gif

Btw, you're using which Nova ?

*
Ah i got the newer Nova 190AW. Its a good bag but the strap is not comfortable to use when fully loaded. sweat.gif

Yeah man, actually I decided to only use my nova 4 when I need both body, and use the other bag when I'm using one body only.
How is your 190 AW? How did you arrange your Padding btw? I'm always struggling in the arrangements...
Oh, haha, nowonder. Didn't think of that...=.=
*
Hmm. you can fit two bodies with battery grips attached in the Nova 4? Mine's alright except for the shoulder strap. Its not padded enough. So i've used another shoulder pad from another messenger bag to make it more comfy. laugh.gif

In my configuration, I can fit my 40D with grip and lens attached, a flash, and 3-4 more lenses depending whether if i use one slot for my accessories. If i do, then i can only fit 3 lenses. smile.gif

QUOTE(kalvinkhoo @ Aug 18 2008, 03:26 PM)

Btw kalvin, the kit lens is sharp, once you stop it down to F8 smile.gif You're having the IS kitlens or the older version?

Its up to your shooting style. I personally would prefer Av mode. M mode if I have the time to set up the shot.

But generally, M mode gives you more freedom. So you can get the style/mood you want.

Yeah exactly. Unless you really know what you're doing (ie. a pro) you'll curse yourself for using M mode and miss the shot due to fiddling with the settings laugh.gif

Yah, i use Av to control the depth of field. smile.gif

i have the Canon 450D with kit lens and 55-250mm lens. Any advice what lens to have for macro shooting?
*
Get a raynox first if you're on a budget. Pair it up with your 55-250 and its should suffice. Or if you have the cash to splash, get the Canon 100 F2.8 USM. laugh.gif

QUOTE(temptation1314 @ Aug 18 2008, 05:05 PM)
for both outdoor and indoor shot?
*
If its outdoors, you can set it to a narrower aperture since there's plenty of light. Unless its outdoors at night la laugh.gif
