they are usually known as rendering marker.

one advantage it has over normal markers is, their colors are blendable.

so being a poor visualizer before, i took my studio managers advice of "you do not need to buy the whole range, just get the primary colors and mix it from there"

so yeah, no need to buy a whole stack of them. just get the primary colors.
