ok i am total noob at this so please be gentle smile.gif

i am looking around for an alternative to streamyx seeing that they don't have enough ports for my area in penang. i find the plans very confusing. i am thinking of getting broadband advance package (RM 98 per month). does it come with the wireless modem? will i be able to get it to work on my imac and ibook? what are the actual speeds like? good enough for torrents?

i am already a celcom postpaid user. does that give me any benefits? thanks.

conclusion, since couple of weeks ago, celcom broadband performance are bad :-(

hopefully this will be temporary only..

after following this thread i have come to the conclusion that i have subscribed to celcom at the wrong time. i just started using it last friday and i have to say that the web-surfing speed can be very bad; dial-up bad. just curious to know, was it always like this? from your post i can gather that there were better times before this? can confirm this?

list of problems with celcom for the past 5 days (i am a new subscriber) -

1. very very frequent disconnections - there is nothing u can do except to pull out the modem from the usb port and replug it in again
2. websurfing speed is like dial up 60% of the time
3. direct download can be as slow as 5 Kb/s
4. torrenting is < 20 Kb/s 80% of the time
5. getting into yahoo mail, gmail and hotmail.com is near impossible

fastest broad band, my a**! if this is the best that the competition can come up with, no wonder streamyx is dominating. give me tmnut anytime!

ok this is kind of a weird question but does the signal strength differ from one spot to another in the same room? using my laptop in another corner of my room seems to improve the speed of my internet connectivity.

every time i hook up the usb modem, i never know what to expect from celcom bb. for example last night i could not even login. until about 3 am in the morning. on the few occasions that i managed to get in, i will be disconnected in about 10 minutes. i can see streamyx laughing all the way to the bank if this is the best that the competitors can come up with.
