wan to know , is it enough to just wash , wax a car ?
mine is a metallic black , i usually wash 2-3 weeks onces , and apply wax once about 1 1/2 month .
only sometimes use polish on those noticeable scratches .I did not use any clay bar o detailer .

yes...but come on yr black rock.....keep it by washing it carefully...& it is not what u applied but how u maintain....once a year of once a week maitainance of once a month'.....i have an exotic car owner weekly spend 6 hours & ended up swriling the car like crap ///////// crab//////// fill in the blanks....over o & with the wrong product...he used rubbing compound on the paint...ultimately the paint died
*
I think the whole car paint also got this effect . So KC , what should i do with the orange peel effect ? . leave it alone ? for me ,from far not much a difference but
just only when u notice it up front . blush.gif
As this is our first dark color car , when I got the car I wash it only with microfiber smile.gif and i wash it every 1 week or 2 whistling.gif

thx for all the reply smile.gif

As it was a new car , thought that the paint was suppose to look like that , until I started to touch on detailing which only I got to know its a paint defects blush.gif
yes its a *Weekly drive car tongue.gif , only me in the house care for the car , others just dun care about it , swirls nor hologram or imperfection .

For me , people who drives a car should also need to know how to take care of their car inside out not just drive it smile.gif

Btw , is there any bad sides for polishing the windscreen ? I mean long-term one , as my wiper judder when raining unsure.gif

2. my car roof top got water mark which cant be removed by washing it nor waxing it , any other way to remove it beside polishing ? which i leave it to the last resort

Guys, just want to know. Is there anyway to remove stench from car seats? Normal proton seats. Smell's such as sweat or even alcohol(accidentally spilled ) from the car? Saw a bottle of fabreeze at home for fabric's and applied it, but dint last long :S  sweat.gif

Added on April 2, 2010, 7:58 pmOh btw, just want to know if its not too much. Lets say i waxed my car last week, and the car gets dirty by the end of the week ( White car  cry.gif ) in order for the wax to remain ( read that wax comes out when car is washed with soap ), what do i do? Just wet the car and use a cloth to clean the dirt off?

I used to wash the car, and apply a clear coat of polish every week last time. Came to discover its not so good smile.gif
*
Let me help u abit on the wax issue , a good wax job would usually last for 2-3 months , a rain o 2 would not wash the wax away , if the car is not too* dirty
then u can hose the dirt off while wipe it with a microfiber smile.gif , if u use a good car wash solution then the wax will not be strip off with each wash . Just dun use dish washing liquid . it instantly ripe the wax off whistling.gif

hopes that help icon_rolleyes.gif

Lets say the car is pretty dirty sad.gif
Can i just hose it down and wipe it with a microfibre cloth? Any bad issues if i use my hand and wash? Sometimes when wetting the car, i tend to use my  palm, fingers to just remove the dirt/dust on the car off.
*
If really dirty I suggest to wash using wash solution. yes u can , but must take caution as the dirt might scratch the paint job . Might scratch the paint also using the hand as u wipe , the dirt is being pulled. better off using a good microfibre blush.gif

My car only 2 month old (metal gray), but it fail in light test, can see a lot swirls with light shining at it at certain angle,  no idea how to remove it, any compound can first those swirl?   rclxub.gif i using Hand waxing.
I bought a cheap  wax sponge  for waxing....but it did more swirl than prevent when apply a little pressure while waxing.
*
some time is the method of washing , waxing or material used incorrectly that's what causes swirls . my family has a black car which almost 1 year that I take very good care of it only has light swirls . I have a uncle who have a 2-3 months black car already has heavy swirls which cause by his incorrect method of washing and washing material used . Its very important to use the correct cloth for washing and drying especially black color car rclxub.gif

Mates. can foam pad on a rotary buffer cause swirls?
Reason im asking is because i have this feeling that my car has more swirl marks after I used a Black & Decker Rotary Buffer.

for the wax im using Mothers Glaze and sealer.
*
yes , it can be but if only u use it wrongly that it will cause more damage blush.gif
make sure both the car body and foam pad is clean and dust free smile.gif

I just got my car (etc. black in color) about a month.
Swirl marks is getting worst day by day.
What make it worst was I sent my car to SC the other day, they did not notify me about the free car wash and they washed my car. Now my new car has extra small scratches.. >.<

I'm totally new in car care. I have no idea how to get rid of the scratches and swirl marks...

Can any Sifu here give me some ideas on how to repair car scratches? Or maybe I should read all 63 pages?

Thank you.
*
Usually , those SC free car wash , they just wash using normal cloth not those microfiber ones so tend to have swirl and scratches sweat.gif
I only wash my car myself and not those roadside wash flex.gif

ok alwalys use microfiber cloth to wash , clean , dry and before u start washing , hose off the whole car then only start washing from top to bottom .
that's going to keep swirl to the minimum .
For the scratches , swirl , use polish to the affected area until the scratches is gone and add a layer of wax to protect it smile.gif

QUOTE(Here-I-Come @ Aug 22 2010, 11:53 AM)
hello everybody,

i am planning to wax my father's car this week and i need some advice.

I will be using kit wax which has been collecting dust for long time already. Is that brand good? Please recommend me some brand.
The paint of the car is black metallic and 6 months old.

My procedure is wash and wax only.Is clay bay or any other step necessary?

I also noticed there are some hairline swirl on the paint, can i get rid of them by waxing the car?

Also when is the time to polish the car if I wax the car monthly?
*
Wax - Protection for the Paint from acidic rain etc ..
Polish - Use to remove a layer of clear coat from the paint , so the paint will look like new and swirl free IF u know what u are doing.

wax - depends on ur durability of the wax . If it still beats(rolling off) water then there is still wax , if not its time to apply.
Polish - some do it once or twice a year . But do remember polishing is by removing a tiny layer of clear coat so don't over do it wink.gif

If the kit wax is still like normal then it can be use . usually wax doesn't has expiry date smile.gif

Buy according to what u can spend , the best u could go for Meguiers , Mothers , 3M etc etc .. or u can get soft99 or turtle wax .

My family owns a 1 year old black car just like u , I am the person in charge of taking care of it ... u must be extra carefully with black color
its like a mirror reflecting everything on it thats the worst part . I usually wash it 1 once a week or if its not dirty then , 3-4weeks once and waxing it once a month . claying never done before .. tongue.gif doing all those except claying already wasted half of my day doh.gif

thanks lot for ur reply smile.gif
ermm what else can i do to make the wax last longer, coz normally after few wash using water only the smoothness loss already.
*
after washing it , u can try using detailer to seal the wax with the paint , it helps to maintain the wax .. or just wax the car again tongue.gif smile.gif
