Some part of the trunk got some oxidation abit but not 'chalky' yet. Is it necassary to use the sanding technique (1500 grit) then polish it?

QUOTE(lonewolf @ Sep 12 2005, 01:19 PM) no need to sand..just get some polish will do..if the polish doesn't work then only sand. Sanding is use if last resort only.. been trying using polish but still cannot shine like other parts. or maybe i need to polish a little bit longer like 30-45 minutes at the trunk surface till its hot? I'm using machine one. Dun have the meguiars polish (except, polymer sealant, show car glaze). i use polyglaze. i sand using 1500 grit to get rid some minor scratch at bumper and polish it and it works. just not sure really need to sand the whole trunk or not just by oxidation |

QUOTE(RedBox @ Sep 13 2005, 12:53 AM) Whoa!!! Hang on there! Polish till it's hot, you mean like run the rotary polishing machine over the same spot for a long time. Ack! Don't do it. or maybe i need to sand it? it just not as shine like other parts. and not even 'chalky' yet. or maybe not correct technique?I think it's time you have to face that maybe the paint in that area has been damaged enough hence waxing/polishing is not able to restore its shine anymore. Seeing your description, either try some other product or it may be time to look into some type of paint restoration process. RedBox |

Meguiars Show Car actually is a polishing substance but not at early stage. at first i sand with 1500 sand paper, then use the polyglaze cut and polish. after that using polyglaze diamond finish, then using the show car. to protect i'm using polymer sealant and carnauba wax.
colorX is from turtle wax ar? yes, i'm sanding myself to remove some scratch on bumper. but dont sand it too much or otherwise cat will tanggal as most bumper the paint is not that thick compare to the body/fender parts currently sanding using my barehand only without the sanding machine. so far so good. but still worry to sand the whole trunk...trunk but not truck! QUOTE(BlueBanana @ Jan 6 2006, 10:35 PM) try asking those who have dark coloured car dark color looks awesome for its shine. by the way how effective the color x to restore some faded color.Anyhoot, Dude ... items to get ... 1. ScratchX(S.X) ... mild polish to remove swirls n scracthes 2. ColorX(C.X) ... restores colors n heals slight swirls 3. NXT TechWax ... Great Wax (saw a fellow forummer selling it cheap) 4. Soft99 Claybar .... surface prep (got 2 types ... 4got wat is wat d) 5. Good MicroFiber cloths (VERY IMPORTANT) 6. Applicator pads, preferable Megs Applicator pads or Even coat applicator pad (if u can get) ... 7. Quick detailer (if u have extra budget) 8. Wash mitt (if u really extra extra budget) but the results is obvious oso la (above products will last ur at least 2-3 years la) Remember: Good things no cheap, cheap thing no good Steps: Wash -> Clay -> Wash -> Dry -> Polish (S.X) -> buff -> inspect paint -> S.X again(if necessary) buff n again(if necessary) -> buff -> C.X -> buff -> NXT TechWax ->buff -> after 6 hrs -12 hrs -> NXT TechWax 2nd layer -> after 6 hrs -12 hrs -> NXT TechWax 3nd layer -> buff .... -> sit back n go WOW!! You ca terus apply 2nd and 3rd layer after u buff off but i prefer to let the wax set lor ... or u mayb can do it after 2-3 hours lor ... if u keep till d next day, a clean fast wash to clear the dust n dirt n ur ready to put a few more layers .. 3 max n mre den tat redundant After this u can repeat such work in another 3-6 months .. in the mean time juz normal wash and use a quick detailer to boost ur wax ... Note: Apply wif applicatior pad, Buff wth MF ... normal towel or cloth = more swirls Dun send ur car to detailing centers. Nowadays they cant b trusted. They use morning towels!!! Do the work urself n sweat it out n savour the moment la!! I use Meguairs as they are well known for their products and the quality of it in terms of glossy and durability and quality. Zaino is harder to get in Msia. The rest u can get frm Enoes or HomeFix. If u willing to fork out more den can try AutoGlym oso. But I recon NXT as a LSP(last step product) for tat WOW n protection. BTW, wax doesnt heal n repair swirls n scratches, it oni covers it up ... polish oni can do it .. since ur car new better spend some $$ to jaga the paint so tat can tahan in future .. Hi KC, been following your detailer blogspot quite a while and I really envy your skill.
I've been using meguairs since 2005 and I'd like to purchase the one like yours which I believe cheaper but got awesome results! I have looked the site http://www.ultimateshine.com.my regarding the product. can you recommend which is the best product+pads suitable for these task? a) paint correction/orange peel effect on newly paint job? b) occasional wax for protection on a new paint. my target is to reduce as much as possible my newly paint car without the need of wet sanding then protect it once every 3-6 months to maintain its beauty Thanks |

stain cannot be removed simply by using waxing since wax is for protection not a polisher/stain remover. try to get something paint cleaner, compound (harsher) or polish (softer) method. if it is still cannot be remove by using rotary machine, normally last resort i will wet sanding it.

Bro KC,
is it possible to reduce the orange peel or you might call it as a paint correction using ONLY compounding with wool+rotary? I dont have the ball yet to wet sand the whole car, but I have wet sand my headlamp and it feel good by watching the result. some pics for those who dont know the orange peel (by the way my orange peel is NOT this bad like in the picture) ![]() I want to make it into this or even BETTER!! ![]() This post has been edited by eddyann: Jun 2 2011, 10:35 PM |

for the newly paint car and not from the OEM paint I bet we can wet sand the whole car right KC? since normally non OEM new paint is more thicker and alot of margin to play with. right now I just dont know to what extend, what preasure on the wet sanding. is it just good enough for a few pass wet sand with light preassure or one pass wet sand with a lot of pressure.

just wet sand the front hood using 1200>1500>2000 grit sand paper. detailing it with my DA machine
1. turtle wax rubbing compound + wool 2. meguairs paint cleaner + wool/pad 3. meguairs polish + pad 4. meguairs wax + pad result? no visible positive effect. d**n. I still cant reduce the orange peel. might be the wet sand is too minimal and light I guess |

I think my wetsanding is "light and gentle" since I barely see any difference in minimizing the orange peel effect. some more using the DA. i think DA+wool cutting power is not good as to rotary+wool. what do you think KC? later i put the pics.
to be honest to remove the swirl from the wetsand using DA is pain in the ass. it takes forever to remove the scratch. the scratch is still lightly visible under strong light. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |
