CAR DETAILING WITHOUT MACHINERY & ELECTRICITY POSSIBLE???

Restoring the pride of your ride.....without getting a hole burnt in your pocket,

Another bruised German ride - My buddy has a fleet of Germans MPV, who is a bit worn off over the years of service, many of such overseas guest & countless VIPs has sat upon. He request me to train his staff on detailing...a date set & i travelled over an hours to meet them.

REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS : full detail - both interior & exterior

SIZE : 14 seats MPV

ELECTRICITY : the nearest TNB is hundreds of metre away

LOCATIONS : Under some Yum yum tree shade, far away resort

WATER : limited supply, as we only brought 5 gallons = 19 litres

TIME : 0400 hours given ...as they need to pick up the guest

COMPLETION : 0345 hours

the rest is history.....I nearly faint, due to my energy run out- with a minimal breakfast......while detailing this, i only realised that I just "awakening a sleeping giant" - TORA TORA TORA (トラ・トラ・トラ!)

The famous Isoroku Yamamoto's quote likening the attacks to , Pearl Harbor, as saying after his attack on Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.

Hi All,
I wonder if any of the kind sifus here could spare me small quantity 1/2 to 1litre of Meguiar's M105/M205? I would like to get rid of the 7 years old swirls and scratches on my Perdana which I could not remove quickly with UC with orange LC pad.
Had anyone share your experience using UC with rotary, do you encounter any problem with pad choice?

I had with me the below tools for detailing..
1. Meguairs UC
2. Meguiars Swirls X 2.0
3. Meguiars M21 2.0
4. Soft99 Authentic Gold Carnauba Wax
5. Dewalt DW443 modified to accept screw in pad
6. Hitachi sp18va rotary
7. limited LC pads and some Chinese Polishing Pad
8. PG #1 clay bar
9. Duragloss 901 wash
10. Duragloss 431 TEW

Cheers
Loo

wat kind of clay products u guys recommend?
yesterday, i was using clean, protect and shine product by turtle wax. took me 4 hours to get the whole car done.. due to the stain and tar on the car body and the car colour was white. i did it at night but not bright enough to spot it. did it again in the morning with minor touch up.. there is still some scratches.. what product can i use to remove it?

btw, i bought a meguiars D151 conditioning product but havent arrive yet. will this be a good product or removing stain and scratches?
*
Clay is clay Megs Clay 4 times more expensive than PG clay - old car get Number 3, light car Number 2, black car new number 1

cut into 4 pcs & use a quarter of it at a time...
PRC 151 is a good stuff....i use alot of them years ago...good for rotary & ROB but be careful not to be too aggressive to yr clear coat & another thing...if it is just a stains...Check out this detailing without machine

Bro, you may want to check the RM$66 clay set here only 1 bar not 3 so really not that affordable.
I got the claykit last time but finally now only use the clay with ONR 1:64 as more economical.
As bro KC suggested, get PG clay easily available from Jusco. Cheers

Guys. I've got some swirls, water spot, and bubbling and dullness on my car,

I'm only working by hand or a cheap Black&Decker ROB.

I've tried Meg's Step 1 paint cleaner, but that didnt help.
So Im thinking of getting either Optimum Spray on polish or Meg's Ultimate compound.

which would you all recommend? I've heard a lot on the Optimum range, but how are they working by hand? I know Meg's can be worked by hand.

I understand the limitations that I have for not having a more powerful machine, but that alright. as long as I can get rid like 70% of the swirls.
*
hi bro
bad swirls cos by improper washing (you need to know the root cos & to solve it & preven it further
user posted image

How often do we get our car wash & sent it to a proper place - doing it correctly to avoid damages inflicting to the paint- such as swirls - RIDS - scratch

DONT Take the "tiada apa" attitude (AKA - no worries) what most of us will do locally here - get it done in 30 minutes for RM 8 at the road side car wash -

if u happen to read my blog u would see our last sat hands on car detailing TT My buddy brought his merz c 200
Car imported from the west is always bound to have more paint issue - as most of them is neglected, due to four season weather & up to 50 pound to wash a car..ended

Ah? I thought Meg's says thier products are clear-coat safe?
The packing on the paint cleaner says "will remove light swirls and scratches"  sweat.gif
Yeap im very particular about washing. but its just the old marks when i didnt know how to wash that I cant get rid off. Maybe I need to take a picture of the condition so you pros can assess.

A very nice writeup KC! great as always. Love the wet look on the black Beemer. way too awesome.

So conclusion is OHSC is better than Megs? looking at the pictures. its really unbelievable.
*
clear-coat safe? u need to know there is 2 range for Megs product - what u can buy OTC (over the counter) is consumer product
dont just read the label - use it & explore it limits -

what i am using is Megs Pro - range not avail outside & only sold in gallon

but optimum product only 1 range - pro

so wou;ld u think i can get the bimmer to the level with otc???

apic worth a thousand words - do u know u can convert yr B&D to a polisher!!!... when i am back will call u

QUOTE(msk @ Nov 26 2010, 12:10 PM)
Wow, great write-up by bro KC good to see Optimum works by hand also.. Must try  rclxms.gif

Though most products clear coat safe, my point is using any products too much may deplete the clearcoat eventually.. just be aware.
To get swirls or scratches out, you're basically removing the clearcoat till level.. so by hand much harder sweat.gif
*
thanks bud
everything is good but not everything is beneficial - yes we are cutting the imperfection away (that is why always do a 50/50% to know what is the level of yr correction)

always start from least aggressive - if u happen to join any of my clinic you would be taught - paint issue! understanding it & correct it.....

the best correction is still with a Rotary & with correct techniques

you do need a expensive transformer! to step down from our 240v to 110v ( there are many mini ones - but mind you, after a fews round (it will blow & cos more money to invest on a proper one)

i need to check out the ampere for you

but i have not seen a solution for one problem (or maybe missed) which is water stain on the paint.

There is water stain only on the roof of my car. I have tried polishing, claying and also some other water-stain removing products.

The stain cant be removed  sad.gif

Is there any method/product you can recommend to remove the stain ?

bro
this is one of the most issue we face as a detailer...you have miss many of them

usually must be corrected by by compounding ( an aggressive correction)...sometimes if it is milder it can be polish up with cutting pad....

Thanks for the compliment. It took me a while to get the correct angle.. as my lights were not strong enough to show the defects.

Hmm. ok. So any normal Velcro will work? (those that I can get from ACE or hardware shops?)
And the polishing pad... what kind is recommended? Meguires?

Can you PM me how much would the Spray compound be? would it be better than the spray polish?
And also please PM me the price for the Spray Wax too.

*
HI Br
you can get in any butang shop , a 2- 2.5 " velco stitch together & glued it on the back of yr B&D (i spent RM 5 on velco - kedai jahit rm 2)

Pad I reckon u should get Lake country ....more durability

Spray compound is better as - u can play around with the different pads & wool - (cutting strength) aggressiveness dependant on yr pressure as well

but if all mean if you want to polish & gloss up yr paint - polish is the best

Added on December 17, 2010, 1:32 amA regular part of car maintenance is something as simple as a car wash. While you are driving around, take a look at how many people have extremely dirty cars. It is very surprising that many people do not keep up with this simple maintenance technique. A car is an investment for many people, and yet some people will not even get their car washed. A car wash can be done your self or train your helpers to do it. Having it done by someone else should not cost you more than a paint work ......

and it will definately cost more than a paint work when you send it to a road side car wash

QUOTE
a very good article - A deadly rinse: The dangers of hydrofluoric acid

Do its cleaning virtues outweigh its many risks?
The brittle, discoloured fingernails will give away any detailer who's been using an HF solution - without protective gloves - use in cleaning the car , engine or wheels. HF is not like other highly corrosive acids. Mix it with equal parts of water (as many overzealous operators ), spill a little on your unprotected hand and you won't even feel any pain as it begins to burn through your skin, searching for the calcium in your bones.

many of such chemical found in these snow wash foam, as widely premixes in a 30-40-gallon drum and run through a air pressure pump, as a pre-rinse. although it has the ability to remove loose traces of foam polish wax, shine glass and chrome, reduce streaking and neutralize the pH on vehicles that have just been through an alkaline pre-soak and washed with reclaim water.

imagine Without the agitation or friction of brushes, cloth or other type of physical contact, many touchless operators feel that the only way to loosen road film is to use a pre-soak that has been spiked with a healthy dose of hydrofluoric acid.

if used in Full-strength, it is used to etch glass. In a dilute solution, it removes acid rain spots from windshields and puts a showroom-like shine on glass.

HF burn covering less than 2 percent of your body can kill you. And you probably won't even know you're in danger until it's too late.

another chemical found in these detergent is SLS

So why is a dangerous chemical like sodium laureth sulfate used in our car shampoos?

The answer is simple - it is cheap. The sodium laureth sulfate found in most of our cleaners is exactly the same as you would find in a car wash or even a garage, where it is used to degrease car engines.

In the same way as it dissolves the grease on car engines, SLES also dissolves the oils on your skin, which can cause a drying effect. It is also well documented that it denatures skin proteins, which causes not only irritation, but also allows environmental contaminants easier access to the lower, sensitive layers of the skin.

conclusion
In the end it can cause more damage than what you were trying to clean in the first place. This means no laundry detergent or bubble bath.
