Ranking high in search engine for good keyword is definitely helpful to get more traffic.
To get good ranking fast, optimized blog for long-tail keyword with min. competition. Get as many banklinks as possible with anchor text pointing back to your blog. Just make sure the link point back to both main domain and also subpages (deep linking)...

Suggest you to put more content on your website....Besides links, there are not much content that I can see. Although the search engine rules doesn't say that you must have a content-rich website to rank high, but it is much more easier to rank with a content rich site as we can easily optimized it with proper tag and keyword density. I have seen many times a single page article (around 400-words) rank #1 in Google for long-tail, low competition keyword and this is very common and doable. by the way, the SE loves content very much.....

Adding more optimized content is the first thing to do, but there are more than that.....

For a new website or blog, there are basically 2 things that we wanted to achieve. firstly, to get our site indexed by Search Engine. By getting indexed means to get our site appear in the Search Engine. When first indexed, it could be appeared in page 100, 200 or 500 but that doesn't really matter for now. Next, we are going to push the site higher in the ranking. So we want to improve the rank say from Page 100 to page 2, this is where you have to do proper SEO optimization to achieve this...In short, few things to take into consideration

a. Proper keyword research (low competition)
b. get more backlinks with anchor text
c. On-site optimization (to include proper tag on your website and may consider appropriate keyword density)
