X-Men: First Class has noble intentions beneath its glossy sheen, as its impressive subtext confronts what it means to be different in a society in which conformism prevails. This loosely mirrors its own identity as a movie, being an all too rare beast - an action blockbuster with rollercoaster thrills and laughs that has a fundamentally intelligent core. Fine acting, perfect direction and a couple of audacious cameos work wonders too.

A classy edition to the X-series that expertly establishes a hoard of characters, navigates a Cold War plot and squeezes a tear for a friendship failed. Dream-team casting and quality FX make this the summer blockbuster to beat.

QUOTE
For X-Men: First Class honestly gives The Dark Knight a run for its money in the "best superhero movie ever" stakes. It's rare to see a film so confidently and assuredly executed in tone - director Matthew Vaughn gives the viewer everything they could possibly wish for in an "event" movie, and then some.

Damn...first blunder for Singer on X-Men.

Should've use the scriptwriters from X2 like they originally planned instead of Simon Kinberg again.
DOFP is such a fluke for him.

I like it. The premise is pretty boring though. But with such likeable casts and cool action sequences here and there, there were no dull moments in the second half.

The villain, urghhh...he's just plain bad.

6/10

Such poignant end to the character. Great movie.
