Dude...this cam won't even come close to SIGMA DP1 man, 1/1.63" sensor can't even touch 20.7*13.8mm Foveon X3 Sensor ( The HOLY Grail of digital camera sensor out there!!! ) Don't believe me, go www.dpreview.com and check it out, it will blow u away man... rclxms.gif

Yo..did u check out the sample image of DP1 in dpreview...look at the pictures itself...and i say Faveon X3 is the best sensor out there not the camera itself...read what i say carefully smile.gif and since DP1 use this sensor it can produce very nice and accurate color. Aren't u guys judge a camera by the picture quality? sad.gif
And how can someone say Fuji F100 not nice a? my fren show me some of the pictures he's taken with the F100, i tot it was taken by his D80 until he told me it was F100..
And the main reason to buy a DIGITAL CAMERA is to take still pictures..if u wanna take good video then get a Video Recorder not a digital camera, if digicam can take video as good as those camcoder then who is going to buy or use those camcoder?

Oh My God u didn't get it do u....i say the Foveon X3 Sensor is the Holy Grail of digital imaging sensor out there at this time not the Sigma DP1...ok, i admit that the Sigma DP1 is not the best camera out there in terms of capability or functions, in fact if u look at the spec it doesn't make much sense also...fixed 28mm-F4 lens with no zoom and the huge price tag(800USD according to dpreview), can get a D80 with that price man...the most i can say is a good sensor stuck in a not so good camera, and since it's the only camera on the market i know of that has this sensor,i automatically assume that this is the best consumer "Fixed Lens Digital Compact Camera" out there....but to tell u the truth the picture it produces really blow me away, i like the color very very much...and the sharpness per pixel of Foveon X3 is much better than conventional sensor..i've never seen a compact camera that can produce this kind of quality and i'm all about picture quality, the rest comes second...and below is the quote from dpreview about the Foveon sensor :

"Foveon's sensor instead of having a single photodetector at each pixel location has a multi-layered design which has the equivalent of a red, green and blue photodetector at each pixel location. This means that instead of having to interpolate the values of neighboring pixels the X3 sensor 'sees' full color at individual pixel locations. This is pretty much the 'holy grail[U]' of digital image sensors, it should mean ultra sharp, detailed images with full color single pixel resolution."

Guess u miss it since u don't read the whole thing...hope i don't offend u but from what i can tell u are not very good at looking at pictures also...or u didn't download the sample picture and take a look at it? Well i hope u read this reply carefully cause i don't want to repeat the same thing over and over again,hope this will clear up the confusion..and by the way i didn't have D80 or F100, it's my friend, guess u're the one that didn't read carefully smile.gif

Well ur rite, a good camera doesn't only depend on 1 single component....a modern digital camera actually has 3 major component that i think is the most important in determining a good camera....
1.) The Lens - this is the major factor that affects the quality most...a good lens will make a lot of difference in terms of picture quality, sharpness, color and most importantly...bokeh or depth of field....

2.) The Sensor - this is one of the most misleading or confusing information that has confuse consumer for a very long time..i think most of u guys already know it but i'll just say it anyway, more megapixels doesn't mean better quality..it all depends on a sensor size...for example a 12mp - 1/1.6" sensor will not look better than a 6mp - 1/1.6" sensor...this is due to the large amount of photosites they need cram in a small space...and the only way to cram it is to make it even smaller than they already are!!! Photosites is used to catch light in the sensor and then convert them into electricity thus making them into a digital signal...small photosites are not as good as catching light compared to the bigger photosites in a larger sensor found in D-SLR..(mind you that 1/1.6" sensor is only around 8 x 6mm while Nikon DX format is 23.7 x 15.7mm...that's several times bigger than 1/1.6" sensor), because the signal that the small photosites gather is weaker they have to bump up the signal to get a better picture, but when u bump up a weak signal then the noise gets bump up as well, so thats where all the noise come from..another thing that i don't like about small sensor is the ability to control the depth of field..if u notice, a compact camera doesn't produce as much bokeh as D-SLR does because of the sensor size..so big sensor big bokeh, small sensor limited bokeh smile.gif
To tell the truth i'm actually sick and tired of this megapixel race where they put as much pixel as they can in a small sensor without considering the consequences. so please forgive me if i don't have anymore confident with a large megapixel,small sensor type compact camera sad.gif ...

3.) The Processor - well the first one to brand and promote a camera processor is Canon i think, with their DIGIC processor..so what do processors do? the sensor read the light and then converts them to signals, then who convert the signal back to a picture...the processors la...the processor(lets call it CPU) is responsible for constructing the signal as well as managing the picture quality..the CPU actually controls the white balance, color saturation and most importantly noise reduction (these r only some of the things that a CPU controls)..a same sensor on a different CPU will yield different results. even with the same sensor and the same CPU which has slightly different algorithm will produce different result also, in the end it all comes down to what the manufacturer sets them to be..some people like to bypass the CPU by taking raw picture files and then calibrate them using a 3rd party software, eg:Photoshop...

So sorry that this might sound like a lecture but i just want to express whats on my mind for a very long time..
the Sigma might have crappy functions and might not produce an ideal looking picture to u but its mostly due to the processor fault (they are not very good in that department anyway)..and it takes a long time to come out with a good processing algorithm to control the overall quality of the picture.... i hope i didn't make any mistakes and hopefully this will provide some info to anyone wanting to learn more about photography.Thanks smile.gif

Wooo..glad u like it...well ur rite again....if u only print 3r or 4r pictures, u will see no difference in 2mp, 3mp,5mp, or even 12mp.(for 4r pictures 2mp is enough edi, anything more than that is a waste)..the big big megapixels is used to print very large pictures, some where from 8r or more...but then,how many people print that size nowdays..but then again, how many people actually go and print their photos nowdays.. smile.gif
