Want to ask.
Is there any user out there using HP Microserver N40L?
How does Acer Aspire Revo Center fare against HP Microserver?
One benefit I see on Aspire Revo is Hot-Swappable Harddisk. Convenient for offsite backup.

Thanks in advance for any assistance. icon_rolleyes.gif

Wonder if I can ask it here. Apparently, from what I have seen on the internet, Windows Home Server doesn't read a 3TB harddisk as 3TB but split it into 2TB and 1TB instead. What does this actually mean?
Let's try an example,
If I were to configure RAID0 of 2 2TB hard disks, how will it appear in WHS? hmm.gif

2 seperate 2 GBs?

Edit: http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/top...b-and-whs-2011/

according to this you need to have a uefi bios, set cinnection as AHCI and format the disc as GPT and not MBR

So, it means we can fully use the 3TB right? Wonder if Acer Revocenter supports 3TB drives though. It's so expensive now. About 600 for 3TB WD Green. shocking.gif

His is N36 I think, not the latest N40. I will check with my office server provider see if N40 is available in Malaysia. I seem to be inclined towards Acer Revocenter because it's cheap about RM1.1K with a 1TB drive and a 250GB(for OS) and hot-swap drives. Will get it later on when hard disk price drop so I can get everything together. I will just do with my external drives at the moment. It's seriously not worth purchasing hard disk now unless it's essential. doh.gif
N40 should be more expensive. hmm.gif

yes, the +1 OS drive and hot-swap capability is cool on the Revocenter..  I hope it is easier to find this RevoCenter than this N40L!!  Do you know if Revo is available in lowyat or digitalmall?  The only reservation i have on these 'true' servers is their power consumption, compares to those NAS ie. buffalo quad, especially when i intend to turn them on 24x7...

I tried asking Acer in Lowyat but they don't have Revocenter. Forgot to ask about N40L from my HP supplier. doh.gif

Can we actually build it ourselves? Like buy components and build like Home PC? Thanks. If we buy pre-built, the expandability is not as great as self-build. Pros & cons please. smile.gif

it really is an option.. depending on how much customisation you want to do. I dont think the revo can put as many disc as the proliant though. but if the proliant is too difficult for you to find i personally suggest getting the revo too.

there is really nothing wrong with a custom built. long before i heard of the hp proliant microserver i was strongly considering getting a AMD E350 board and make a NAS/HTPC build.

THe proliant can take up to 6 HDD without major mod or even an extra RAID PCIE card. ALso I read somewhere that HP power supply units acheive 90% efficiency

Thinking of building one but availability of low-power processor in the market is low. hmm.gif
Example being, i3-2100T. What matters in handling a Gigabit network? Does processor affect the speed that can be achieved? hmm.gif
Lots of high efficiency PSU available in the market. smile.gif
