Read thru all the post...

Still not so clear what to choose....

D-Link, QNAP, Synology or HP Microserver??

Hope all the senior here can give me advise on my NAS,

I plan to get 4 bays for 4x2TB SATA to be Home use Storage,
1) able to backup all the data, but is that Raid is safe? Raid 10 or Raid 5?
2) able connect to >5 users, 4 notebooks, 1PCs and Media Player for LCD.

Will plan to upgrade existing PC for downloading --> store in NAS --> Notebook users / Network Media Player --> LCD
* Better Speed of transferring and reading.

3) able to safe shut down automatic when power low in UPS.
4) better protection on virus and disk tools to maintain disk.
5) able to connect from oversea to get a file.
6) Ready for further Extension.

Plan to using Windows 7 for new PC and a notebook using windows xp.

If you not expect in server or want easy job, just get those qnap or synology. Those spec you mention above is no problem with this 2 brand.

Or cheaper like hp if you expect.

Ya, as cheaper as possible loh.

4x2TB SATA will be cost me around RM 1,200
2xUPS can last 30mins time I think will be around RM 1k (1 for NAS, All the PCs, another one for LCD and Media Player)

So, for the devise better within RM 1k++...

Even I never use server or NAS before,
But can learn from all the sifu here mah~

I m not expert. So I choose synology for easy to use, maintain, security and provide ready function. I don't need to wirte some code or search some software to install and run.

So far my invest on NAS is NAS-rm2k, 4x2TB sata-rm1.3k and UPS-rm600 = rm3.9k.

But you're experience user for Synology mah.

I just found something....HP Microserver need 200W vs Synology/Qnap is lower right?
and HP as a PC need to setup and install OS but Synology/Qnap dont need right?

Then now.....
can some one explain clearly what is the difference between Synology vs Qnap?

Hello Guy,

I need some advise from you guy for selecting a NAS.

Currently I have Seagate Ext. 2gb and PC in NTFS format.

I need to NAS can be easy setup and less maintain in future (due to not so much knowledge for maintain it...), and can fulfill below:

a) 4 bays 2GB HDDs
b) Recover Solution (Maximum Storage)
c) 24 Hours Operation
d) Manage communicate with UPS for auto shut down when power down
e) Mainly for Entertainment Files Storage (learn to BT also...)

Current in mind have Synology & Qnap,

1) Can recommend which model are better and suitable to me?
2) Is that any promotion currently?
3) I wish to get it on this coming saturday 18 Jun.
4) And wish to use Amex to buy it. (Which shop can accept Amex?)

Thanks for assist...

Either 1 will do the job. If you looking which 1 more popular in here, than count the user here. NAS seldom see any promotion. Maybe can get the 2nd hand.
