So, that means we got to pull a sata cable to the eSata port at the back for the 6th drive right?  I was looking at this too previously, so I wud join this group buy if the way it works is as described..
*
yup.. need to find esata-to-sata I believe.. suppose got.. But I use another raid card from IBM server..

QUOTE(loonsave @ Sep 14 2012, 05:20 PM)
@jchue73, do you run RAID for your N36L? I do know that the box itself only support RAID 0 and 1. Possible that we have a tweak to run RAID 5? Preferably hardware RAID without additional cost.
*
The raid is software based.. It's not the real raid. I just sold out M5015, IBM raid card.. selling between 250-280. Support raid 5 with battery backup. It's coz 1k new.

What I means is, the raid that's come with hp micro server is fake raid aka software based raid. Not the IBM raid card. Sorry a bit confusing.

So doesn't matter you use os level raid or hp micro server raid its both software raid. Only advantage is, you can configure through bios and by having the driver the os will see the raid.. OS level raid need to boot into os 1st.

Corrupt os will not effect the data. After reinstall should be able to get the data back.

IBM M5015 can fit into the HP mircoserver? hmm.gif

Mine is 1015, but still not try yet since all HDD is now inside htpc..

as for 5015 should be no problem since same size (pcie low profile)..

This is pix from the net, i believe it's M1015.

If the bandwidth is enough, ie 1GB. By using a vlan capable switch ie mikrotik (<RM200) you can split the 1 ethernet to 4.

but it shouldn't be, no? mine's rated 500mbps, so at the very least it should be getting half of gigabit speed (50MB/s at least). the wireless homeplug is 200mbps, so should have ample leeway with WiFi N connecting to it as well.
*
Mine aztech 500Mbps.. The best I can get is around 80-100Mbps.. This done using same powerstrip.

For real line setup, 1st floor to down stair, I can copy file around 11MBps.. I believe they is something else limited the transfer (internal powerplug component/firmware). The aztech utility reported around 200-300Mbps speed when tested using the same powerstrip. But UDP packet test just goes above 100Mbps. For the info, UDP packet test done using linux nc program. This is acceptable to test the network. No disk reading overhead or TCP overhead and ack packet.. Just pure packet transfer from 1 point to another.

No experience with homeplugs but is your house electrical wiring single or 3 phase?

Single phase.. When testing I use same power extension. side by side..

QUOTE(MEAKU15 @ Mar 18 2013, 03:34 AM)
hey all - just wanna share  my recent purchased .. wanna see if there's anything i can do to speed things up

1. Bought a WD live book duo (6tb)
2. Connected to a router ( Unifi router - the one came with the package )
3. Trying to transfer data over WIFI ( wireless )
4. Speed im getting max is 2.40 to 2.58 MB/s ( this is using the normal windows copy and paste transfer )
5. External HDD connected to laptop ( s7 ) through USB 3.0. External HDD is 2.0
6. When i connected the external HDD to the live book directly using the usb 2.0 port at the back, the speed is lower than 1MB/s

Question:
1. How to speed up the process of transferring data to the Live book duo?
2. I have another 1 TB external HDD - with the current rate , i think it will take 1 week to transfer everything smile.gif

Thanks in advance ....
*
Try another computer..

For router, I think that's the best speed you can get.. Limitation on route cpu usually.

You can get better speed if connected to gigabit switch.

sorry - so what you are saying - connect the router( TM's orange color ) to a gigabit switch to get a better wired connection?
*
TM router is 100Mbps only.. if you wanna test, just direct connect between laptop and WD. Use static IP for both router and WD.

What I said before, you need gigabit switch.. Both computer and WD connected to 1GB switch. So both you computer and WD running on gigabit network.. Connect 1 port from switch to orange router for internet connection.

Make sure you use cat6 or cat5e cable.. Don't use blue cable (4x) coming with dlink router. That's cable connect be used for gigabit. If you see the cable you can see there only 4 pair or wired instead om 8.

this is a very interesting info.... it seems that you can actually install synology DSM software in regular x86 computers. This could potentially make 1. DIY NAS very cheap and 2. easy to setup at the same time

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1460222/how-to-r...station-for-nas
*
Nice.. any important feature synology have? Raid type maybe?

I just installed openmediavault/freenas for testing. Both quite good and more than enough is you wanna have NAS for file sharing. Since both software is using underlying server OS you can install many application. BUT you need to familiar with freebsd or linux.
