Hello,

I would like to seek your advice / pointers on selecting Front Load washing machine (7 – 8 kg) for 1 person, no dryer.

My opinion (with regard to Front Load) as follow:
1) Samsung / LG
Korean makes better washing machine than car.
For LG, I am impressed by DIrectDrive. Don’t really care for 6 motions.
For Samsung, the lowest model for inverter unit is 8kg.
Service done by third party

3) Panasonic
Longevity issue; Spinning noise seems greater after 3 years and sign of rust.
Service done by third party

4) Hitachi
Impressed with self cleaning features AND the commercial with champagne glasses to demonstrate low vibration while spinning. It reminds me of the Lexus ad with champagne glasses.
Don't know about long term.

5) Electrolux
It works but get noisier after 3 -4 years. May be I was looking at friend’s lower end model. I am confused with their model number too.

Ideally, a washer can last 10 years. My previous first front load WM, Elba lasted more than 18 years after buying the LG front load which only lasted 6 years.

2 features that impressed me are direct drive and inverter.
Is Direct Drive only belongs to LG?
Does inverter cut electric usage by 50%?

I could be wrong on my opinion. Care to share your experience? Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Great research you did there. I am doing similar observation as you.
To add on top of what you have, Hitachi's high end front loads also have Direct Drive with Inverter, doubt its from Korea, as its a Japanese company.

Stories of people replacing belts on their Electrolux made me eliminate it from my consideration, as I do not want the hassle of replacing belts. Like my cars, I want one with timing chain rather than timing belt. So my choice would definitely be a direct drive unit.

What happened to your LG Front Load? Only 6 years? No warranty?

I am most likely getting the LG WD-MD750WM with Inverter Direct Drive in the next couple of months, and its price competitively around RM1.6k. Like you I do not need a big load, and 7kg is more than sufficient for my usage.

Hello,

I am narrowing down to the following, but still open to any suggestion.

+++++++7kg+++++++
(w/ inverter + direct drive)
LG WD MD750WM    RM1.6K
LD WD MD7100WM  RM1.8K

** basically same machine where MD7100WM has more wash pogramming (12 vs 8)
I did detailed comparison between this two. In actual usage, you won't use more than 3 settings. Quick 30, Cotton and Cotton-Intensive. If you have wools to wash, both feature Woolworth certified wash programs.

The extra programs are just nice to see, don't see using it day-to-day.

belt driven washer.. 2 points of failure..the belt and the motor..
direct drive motor.. 1 point of failure.. the motor itself...

less is more.. i'll never consider belt. why arguing about servicing cost and DIY... most people should know simple logic..

If motor "seldom" has problems, then why it failed?
For a WM, regardless of FL or TL, motor is the part that will not fail, except for direct drive concept and you always put close to full load or big piece(like comforter).
Remember, a FL only can take up to 70% of its rated capacity.
Door lock module failure are quite common for FL.
20-30 years ago, Eletrolux WM are good brand, but not now.
Nowadays a TL got more preset and can do what a FL can do with a fraction of price. Getting Toshiba or Panasonic will be a good start. At least 10 years(with average close to 80% load) they won't post you any problem.
Again, still the same, don't buy a WM with direct drive, getting a WM with belt drive will be better as when it fails, you only need to change the belt(and can be done by any repairer) thumbup.gif

My cheap Toshiba TL failed motor before.. but got 7 years or 8 years motor warranty.. replaced under warranty.

I think so, its a cheap WM that my mom bought, waiting for it to die, or shift it to my other house, see which occurs first. Then I will buy a new FL WM. So motor WILL fail. Regardless TL, FL, DD or BELT.

Hi guys,

Im in the process of moving into a new house.

Been looking through a few washing machines, can u guys recommend either of these options which is the best, maybe can add in the advantages and disadvantages of each washing machine.

1. LG TL 11kg with inverter
2. Panasonic TL 11.5kg with Econavi
3. Samsung TL 10kg with inverter

Thanks in advance!

1. TL, ban
2. TL, ban
3. TL, ban

No reason to go TL when spending top dollar. I'm using TL cause its cheap as chips, < RM700 and bought a long time ago.

Well, that's not really an answer I expected sad.gif

Budget pretty tight, can only afford TL atm bro..

That Panasonic 11kg has an RRP of RM1599. I've seen front loaders around that price during offers. Best to survey around and stretch budget a little.

I've been on TL since forever. Will move on to FL and won't be looking back.

Guys. Where to find a washing machine pedestal? I'm dead set on getting the LG 8kg front loader but really need to get the pedestal as my mom love to do lots of washing... Don't want her to bend down so low.

LG front load washing machine, anything I should look out for?
*
Make sure the model you choose got a big door. My 9KG FC1409S3W has big door. I think smaller ones don’t.

ThinQ mobile app is convenient. Will notify you when wash complete, and can do remote wash. Load up, enable remote wash on the washer, then you can start the wash anytime you want on the app..Why you need this feature? Depends, I use it to remote start a wash before I come back, so when I come back the wash just complete and I can hang dry it. Don’t want damp clothes sitting in the washer. Better it’s just freshly washed.

Does this machine come with a delay start? Isn't the remote start essentially the same thing?
*
Delay start? Don’t know.

Remote start is on demand. When I press the button in the app my phone.

I guess if you set delay start, go out, and suddenly got errands to run, the delay start will proceed and you can’t change it. Whereas the app... starts on my command.

Hi, can u guys suggest me a good wm. Budget below rm1500. First time buying wm

Front load-
LG WD-MD8000WM 8kg
TOSHIBA TW-BH95S2M 8.5kg
Electrolux 7.5kg EWF7525EQWA

Top load-
LG T2109VS2M 9.0kg
Sharp 10kg ESX1168

thanks

Front load saves water, gentler on clothes. Choose LG because direct drive technology, no belts to maintain.

Search on YouTube to see explanation about LG direct drive.

Is LG the only one with this tech? How different is it compared to other brands' inverter washing machines? Sorry noob

A non direct drive washing machine can still be an inverter machine.

In Malaysia, currently LG is the only manufacturer offering it. This doesn’t mean other machines are inferior, I just feel it’s a better implementation.

That’s why I recommend watching the video how it works on YouTube and make your own informed decision.

LG direct drive front load with IoT. I throw my laundry in at night, schedule to complete when I wake up.

So I wake up, done with brush teeth, wash face, go down can take clothes out d.

EDIT: If looking for cheap 7kg top load washing machine, avoid Sharp. rubbish washing machine. Samsung 7kg top load is ok.

Yes, I seldom do this too. This can avoid unnecessary prolonged exposure of moist & water to rubber parts in wm which in long term can cause mould which is damaging and grossly to eyes.

Leave the door of the front loader open after washing.

No mold. The water will dry out

Front load user feedback needed.
washer/ dryer
LG 15/8kg vs Samsung 17/10kg

LG more costly compare to samsung,
LG use heat pump drying
any others pro/con of both?
*
Heat pump is technically superior. Power savings
I choose LG front load washer due to direct drive. No belt. Unsure if combos are direct drive, if yes, will always be my choice.

LG ThinQ is life changing for me. To schedule washes. Throw laundry & detergent in at night. Schedule for completion when I wake up.

Pretty sure Midea cheaper than all the Japanese and Korean brands.

I have Sharp washer, top load one. Didn’t last long. Couldn’t be repaired.

The whole drum vibrating inside the machine, insides all plastic. Get 2 different technician all say can’t fix.

Lasted about 7 years only.
Samsung 7kg top load going strong.

Old Toshiba 6.5kg pink color one refuse to die more than 12 years lol.
