The global debut for Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit the $529 million mark, trampling over Jurassic World’s previous record of $525 million.

The success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens also makes it the first movie to break $100 million in a single day, in addition to earning the biggest domestic opening ever with $248 million over the weekend.

Disney said Sunday that Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke the $1 billion mark around the world faster than any other film in history. The sci-fi adventure movie reached the milestone 12 days after its global release. That is one day earlier than the previous record holder -- Universal's "Jurassic World," which was released earlier this year. The seventh film in the "Star Wars" saga has made $544.5 million in the U.S.
