If it's unlocked and cheaper I think it's better to get it there. It's coming, but we don't know exactly when.

I'm not sure if what I read was from credible source or not but it seems that during the recent Apple conference call, Apple mention they expect the production of the Apple 3G to pick up and be ready to be launch in another 20 countries sometime in August. I think I read it in the one of forum link given above.

Ok. Here's the another source that confirm what I was saying earlier.

QUOTE
AlleyInsider reports on AT&T's Q2 financial results. AT&T posted $30.9 billion in revenue, up 4.7% year-over-year.

In Apple related news, AT&T revealed that despite ongoing iPhone shortages, the iPhone 3G sales are nearly double that of the first iPhone.

“The Apple iPhone 3G is a dramatic example of this transformation,” Stephenson added. “In the days following our exclusive U.S. launch of this new device, powered by the nation’s fastest 3G wireless network, customer response has been everything we had anticipated and more. This strengthens our wireless business, and it reinforces our positive view of the opportunities ahead for AT&T and the industry.”
Lines are still forming for the iPhone, which has been in short supply since its launch about 12 days ago. According to reports Apple's availability tool is not accurate as shipments can come in the morning.

During Apple's Q3 Financial Results conference call, executives announced that Apple will be launching the iPhone 3G in 20 additional countries on August 22nd.

The link for the source is Macrumors

Alright, I just realised my mistake. It didnt confirm that Apple will release Iphone officially in Singapore in 22nd August but the possibility is high.

I think when iPhone launches on 22/8, sure stock cepat habis as knowing Singaporean "kiasuism" haha!

As for contract plan, it is definitely a requirement for getting the phone, and so does it should be unlock. One thing unclear is how much to pay if only getting phone without contract??? I think it's not gonna be cheap...

Holy crap! RM3650 for 16GB!? And no certainties of an unlock. If I'm still in 737, I could get it in Manila, but alas. Will Singaporean units mirror this price, or will there be any non-plan units at all? That is the question.

The very same. His modus operandi is, if he cant match the price, destroy that seller's thread. Just look into his post history and see how many sales thread he had poked his brown nose in and destroyed, not to mention disputes as well. Funny thing is, the mods seems to tolerate characters like this. Well done, Malaysia boleh! rolleyes.gif

Anyway, just take a chill pill while waiting for the s'pore launch, if it's going to be locked, they might just ask for an unlocking fee, doesn't make sense to lock it for use in such a small island. I'm hoping it'll be unlocked out of the box thou!

ringrong, not necesary
if they locked, they may get customers from other telco to jump over, as in spore now, they can retain their numbers while changing telcos

Yeap, chances are it'll be locked. Charging a massive unlocking fee will work too, something like a "barrier to exit" which not many would want to fork out

Singtel has made an announcement that it will sell the iPhone on Aug 22.

http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_267146.html

user posted image

To answer some of your queries, no the iPhone will definitely not be locked to a particular telco (this is in line with regulations set by IDA). At most Singtel will 'lock' you in a 1 or 2 years contract. smile.gif

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Singapore Telcos In Race For Exclusive Rights To Apple iPhone

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They see handset drawing hordes of subscribers

(SINGAPORE) With a major barrier for switching telcos to be lifted within the next six months, local mobile operators are now jostling for exclusive rights to sell Apple's coveted iPhone in a race to turn the subscriber tide in their favour come 2008.

All three telcos - SingTel, StarHub and M1 - have held talks with California-based Apple Inc on the possibility of bringing its newfangled handset to Singapore months before it is scheduled to hit retail shelves across the region.

Although Apple has yet to firm up a local launch date, it did previously commit to introducing the iPhone in Asia sometime in 2008 and is widely-expected to choose only one operator to work with in each market.

SingTel is believed to have submitted a proposal to Apple earlier this year, and a company spokeswoman said that talks are 'still ongoing'. Not to be outdone, StarHub and M1 both said they were having similar discussions.

With its full touch-screen interface, music functions, sexy design and host of add-on applications, the iPhone has already won over a million fans in the United States since it debuted with much fanfare in June this year.

With subsequent launches in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and its impending arrival in Asia, Apple is hoping to sell 10 million units of its flagship phone by the end of 2008.

Its immense popularity has already spawned a huge grey market for the product locally, with gadget-crazed Singaporeans typically paying over a thousand dollars to be among the first to own the device.

However, with Apple threatening legal action against unauthorised resellers here, coupled with the introduction of a software upgrade which makes it harder for parallel importers to use the handset outside its intended market, the iPhone has become somewhat of a scarce local commodity.

Against this backdrop, industry observers believe the ability to get Apple to put pen to paper on an exclusive pact here could win over legions of subscribers and help an operator like SingTel cement its lead or lift third-placed M1 up the pecking order against its larger rivals.
And with the Infocomm Development Authority's (IDA) mandate for so-called true number portability coming into effect in the second quarter of 2008, the outcome of the iPhone negotiations becomes even more significant.

This is because the telecommunications regulator has decided to use a new centralised database system to allow consumers to easily retain their mobile numbers when switching operators. Once in place, consumers will no longer need to use the current call-forwarding regime and get a second number, a scenario that is expected to shake up the mobile market and result in more intense competition to hang on to existing subscriber dollars.

'Operators around the world are falling over themselves to work with Apple because of the iPhone's potential to win customers from immediate rivals and drive mobile data usage,' said Aloysius Choong, a senior market analyst with technology research firm IDC Asia-Pacific. 'Any exclusive arrangement will be especially disruptive next year with full number portability expected in Singapore.'

Thus far, exclusive iPhone agreements have been inked with AT&T in the US, O2 in the UK, T-Mobile in Germany and Orange Wireless in France, with these telcos caving in to Apple's unheard-of demand for a share of subscriber revenue.

In Asia, the gadget giant is already negotiating with China Mobile and NTT DoCoMo in Japan and if its track record of working with top operators continues, SingTel could be the frontrunner in the local leg of the iPhone dealership race.

Although the IDA has sanctioned such exclusive product deals, the winning Singapore telco will likely be required to sell the iPhone in an 'unlocked' state.

In the US, the handset only works with AT&T's cellular network through the use of SIM-locking technology but this approach has sparked much legal fracas in other launch markets.

Authorities in France have recently forced Orange to unlock the iphone while German operator Vodafone tried unsuccessfully to get local courts to do the same.

However, the IDA has taken a clear position on this issue.

'IDA has prohibited the SIM-locking of handsets to remove a barrier for end users to switch operators, and to allow end users the freedom to choose among the operators offering various innovative and competitive mobile services. This policy has been in place since the start of mobile competition in 1997,' an IDA spokesperson said.

Most people are looking at an unlocked version right out of the box, or the 2nd option is pay an unlocking fees. But the 2nd option still will be popular compare to 1 or 2 year 'lock' to singtel even with cheap upfront payment. 10 more days to go. I'm sure they will come up with pricing sometimes next week.

@z3171600,
If the above information is correct, that would mean SG sets will haf to come unlocked - whether SingTel is going to allow outright purchases like in NZ is entirely up to the Telco but I've a feeling they might follow the footsteps of Hutchison in HK - esp since they aren't going to be making $ from outright purchases - Y give the added advantage to their competitors; and us M'sians?

Benchmarking the prices of iPod Touch in Singapore, the 16GB version = S$698. Assuming we load S$500 premium for the iPhone 3G, the phone will cost about S$1198.

I'm estimating the iPhone 3G from SG to cost in the range of S$1198 and $1399 thereabouts. Let's just wait and see biggrin.gif

That statement may be moot since all three of SG carriers are getting them, it is just that Singtel is getting it first. Time-exclusive locks are not considered locked in this case.

And as that ad are meant to be viewed by those interested locally, one could also surmise that "unlocked" here means unlocked to Singtel, M1 and Starhub only, as these are the carriers we are talking about. No Malaysian carriers hold any equity, shares or market presence in Singapore, for them to even consider an unlock for any of the local carriers here.

If I am wrong, this will be the first time I am glad to be proven wrong. I can always do KUL-SIN and drop by Terminal 3 to grab all the SG Aifontriji I can get my hands on.

agreed with you.... Yet, pricing is still a MAJOR issue to think of, if SG price is very much higher than NZ.

@Tinkerbel
it's not a surprise to me if SingTel to announce the plan/pricing one day before launching.
The point is.... are the selling OUTRIGHT + UNLOCKED out of box ? hmmm.... hmm.gif
very soon.... all long waiting doubts will be answered.

considering that you will be rushing to the s'porean iphone launch, is there any chance that i could ring you up for confirmation that it'll work on a malaysian sim card? slim chance that it will be unlocked, but nothing wrong to be hopeful

Guys....if the phone is lock, i will quite this deal. I'm rather get a ticket and when to NZ to get it. Getting a plan for me in Singapore is just a stupid ideal, coz my company provide me a cell phone too. Let's said if i get this phone with singtel's plan, i will be keeping the stupid sim card on pocket and put in maxis on it whistling.gif
For me to get "singtel's plan" is just to make me easier and get "Aifontriji" only brows.gif

Nokia, we all know that singtel own 100% aust optus, right. So, why not they just follow the same concept like optus? FYI, singtel also have a share in Bharti India and Globe philippine. Both telco also will launch iphone on 22nd august.

generally from the MNP review recently this week...Singtel having the larger sub base in singapore with prepaid and postpaid...

i would say this iPhone going to launch next friday will be contract base. On top of tat u have to pay at least S$500+ with 2 yrs contract...
(for my own reviews no source smile.gif )

why would i say that....coz Singtel can get mass products from Apple where they can meet the quota with Apple to promised them they can sell that certain amount. But for Starhub and M1...they cant promise Apple they can sell tat amount compare to Singtel.

If u in Singapore, remember when the first launch HTC Diamond? Singtel giving best offer whereas other telco's price tag above S$200 extra compare to Singtel.

Nevertheless, with contract base phone will be slightly cheaper than outright but still u have to fork out extra money to get the phone on top of that..every month u got to pay at least S$24 for the line hehe

S'pore telco is smart hehe
I also hope tat Singtel giving 2 days HOT SALE for 500 first comers for S$0 3g iPhone hehe

I dont think that there is a min quota for telco to achive. Beside that, you must remember about their law regarding sim lock.

@baretta

Morning, hehe regarding the quota thingy. Yes most of the telco would promised /deal with certain amount of units form the phone production.

that's why sometimes or most of the time Singtel phones look more tempting compare to others biggrin.gif

Coz they have money and large sub base, so they can take more stock and sell to customer with slightly cheaper rate smile.gif

Haha 2 days first come first serve iPhone 3G just hoping only. Coz Singtel is the Boss Boss in S'pore, sure they will promote "SINGTEL" for its own reputation with BEST COVERAGE.

I wonder the plan charges ea month will be how much? counldn't be S$24...sure S$43 and above...

I find it as a rather good news compare to NZ, free iPhone for contract of 2 yrs on 100SGD+ iPhone plan should pwn NZ's NZD199 iPhone on 2yrs 250NZD/mths stupid 1GB bandwidth iPhone package..

For Malaysians that's gonna be expensive:

iPhone = FREE
Monthly fees = SGD100
Contract period = 24 months

Total = SGD2400 sweat.gif

Hopefully the above does not reflect the actual plan when the pricing is revealed later this week. One more important thing to consider for fellow Malaysians is must make sure if Singtel says UNLOCK, UNLOCK for all telcos in SG OR UNLOCK for any telcos out of SG as well.....

I agree on the possible reason why Singtel is delaying on revealing the price of the plans, it is going to be expensive. Singtel also probably want to delay the reveal of the price to stop the other two carriers, M1 and Starhub from devising a better plan/price tag than theirs and gather as much sheep to their flock as they can.

You cannot get HK iPhones without contract. That fact alone negates any needs to look for the info. Any phones tied to a contract will incur prices beyond any non-contracted ones.

They probably want to ease you into it.

At the very extreme, you may even only know the price once you are at the counter , ready to pay. That way, they put you on the spot, and very little time to consider or think.

Would probably backfire if that is the case, there will be rioting on the streets and city painted red with blood. tongue.gif

SOme good and not so good news .. depends on what ur looking for.

I called singtel (1626) and asked if the price plans are out, they wont be out on the web till tomorrow, but the agent gave me all the details.

Biggest disappointment there is no unlimited data plan as such. Anyways here are the details according to what i was given

Three new data plans (all prices with GST)

iFlexi Value - $56 - 300 MB Data - 200 Mins Outgoing Voice - 500 SMS
iFlexi Plus - $95 - 500 MB Data - 500 Mins Outgoing Voice - 500 SMS
iFlexi Premium - $205 - 1500 MB Data - 1500 Mins Outgoing Voice - 1500 SMS

Additional data usage charged at 1cent for each 2KB extra. These plans also come with 3 value added services free (Voicemail, roaming and Caller ID)

Handset price (varies depending on the price plan)

Plan 8GB 16GB
--------------------------------------------------
iFlexi Value 348 508
iFlexi Plus 49 208
iFlexi Premium Free Free

if you do not want to sign up for the above plans, and want to use your existing voice only plan and add the mobile on broadband plans, then the handset price will be more expensive and you will have to sign either a 24 month or 30 month contract

8GB - $568
16GB - $728

You cannot get the handset without any contract from singtel.

I may not have all the information you are looking for, but i gathered as much as i could think of. If you have more queries please call them to find out.

While i think the handset prices seem reasonable, the data plans seem really pricey.

Cant wait to get the iPhone although not very happy about the price plans

leinad's Advice
Quote:
My advice is, don't take the new plans and buy the phones at the old plans prices (568/728). Here's my rationale:
In case you people are thinking of signing up for the new plans, my advice is - don't. Buy under the old plans and subscribe to BBoM as a VAS.

Current Singtel promotions:
If you get iTwo Value, you get an additional $120 off the phone.
iTwo Plus/Three, you get $200 off the phone.
BBoM 12 month contract, another $100 off the phone price + 30% off monthly subs for the VAS.
CallerID - $5/mo

Doing the math:

iTwo Value + BBoM 1000 (12 month contract)
$48.15 + (22.42 - 30%) ~= $61/mo.
What you get?
- Additional $120 + $100 = $220 off the phone price. $348/508.
- 300 mins outgoing, Free Incoming, 500SMS, Campus Calls (if you're eligible) 50GB of data/month

iTwo Plus + BBoM 1000 (12 mth contract):
$82.93 + (22.42 - 30%) ~= $99/mo.
- Additional $200 + $100 = $300 off the phone price. $268/428
- 700 mins outgoing, Free Incoming, 500SMS, Campus Calls (if you're eligible) 50GB of data/month

CallerID is an additional $5 a month. You can get this free either by being a Singtel-UOB Visa card holder and charging your bills to the card monthly, or just sign up for MIO.

Okay, the problem of getting one shouldnt be a problem anymore for you. What about its lock/unlocked status? I doubt Bharti Airtel and Vodafone would want their customers exchanging sims amongst each other, and taking advantage of each other's supposedly cheaper plans?

I hear 3G is almost nonexistant in India. True?

today i did a little experiment with the NZ iphone. a customer came in to port his telecom number to voda, and his Telecom phone is the new kind, with gsm simcard. took the simcard out of his phone, put into the iphone and voila, "INVALID SIM". So had to activate the iphone with prepay sim tongue.gif

i guess it is "locked" after all, hehehe biggrin.gif i wonder if singtel will follow suit, locally locked it so other network in SG cant use it.

Maybe NZ Telecom's SIM card is like one of the Japanese SIM cards, which are not compatible with anything but their own phones? I find it hard that Vodafone NZ specifically block NZ Telecom sims only, and not the foreign sims.

crazy ... $205 x 24

Singtel plan offers free iPhone

Singtel is offering customers a free Apple iPhone if they sign-up for a two-year, $205 monthly SingTel subscription plan.

The much sought-after phone will be available in Singapore come Friday August 22. When the new 3G iPhone was released earlier this year in Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand, fans braved the cold weather and queued up for days to ensure they could get their hands on one.

SingTel is the first telco to bring the iPhone into Singpore. Other mobile providers Starhub and MobileOne should be offering the iPhone here by year's end.

Existing SingTel customers can also get the iPhone if they sign up for a 24-month, that will run concurrently with their existing plans.

Customers on SingTel's iThree Plus which goes for $192.60 a month will also receive the iPhone for free. Those on the iTwo Plus plan will have the option to sign up for a $95 monthly plan on a 24-month contract to get the iPhone at a discounted price of $208 for the 16GB model and $49 for the 8GB model.

iTwo Value customers will get the 16GB iPhone for $508 and the 8GB model for $348 if they sign up for a $56 monthly plan on a 24-month contract.

iOne Plus customers paying $25.68 per month will have to pay $848 for the 16GB and $698 for the 8GB phone.
Sales will begin 'at the stroke of midnight' on Friday at the telco's Comcentre Building, a SingTel spokesman told The Straits Times.

Ok. Here is my summary on the Singtel Iphone 3G.

2 Majors Plan available:

1st for the newly created iFlexi plan with mobile data bundle
http://home.singtel.com/singtel/iphone/popup_iflexi.html

2nd for the existing plan without mobile data bundle
http://home.singtel.com/singtel/iphone/popup_iplans.html

However, they encourage ppl to sign up on Broadband on Mobile for the existing plan to enjoy Iphone 3G. So i suppose that not compulsory. And there's no term on contract period but i bet it should be on the std 24months contract.

FAQ on Singtel website
http://home.singtel.com/singtel/iphone/sup..._iphone.html#d2

Few notes to point out:

1) Will the SIM be locked to SingTel?
The handset will be preset to the SingTel Network. Phones not connected to the SingTel network will not be supported by SingTel.

2) Will my iPhone work with a StarHub or M1 SIM?
It may work but you may not enjoy the same iPhone experience as SingTel only supports iPhone 3G devices that are connected to SingTel’s network.

3) Can I get an iPhone on prepaid?
At this stage, no.

Those have made reservation previously need to wait for password to login to their site for booking and priority is given to existing singtel customer. Only Comcentre will launch the Iphone 3G on 22nd August and the rest of Hello! Shop on 25th August onwards.

So, from all these bullet points, we can summarize that you cannot get an iPhone unless you subscribe to a plan, and the iPhone may work on other carriers but not its full extent. There may be a chance that the iPhone comes as unlocked but that question can only be answered on 22nd. However, getting an iPhone through Singtel is impossible without a plan.

Yup. Especially with the implemented Mobile Portability Number few months back and so postpaid plan is a must i would say. So those intended to import from SG can just forget about it.

@louismhc
I also havent get the password. So just wait as i think currently still have a lot of questions flooding around regarding the plan. For eg, does MIO plan eligible to get the iphone with iOne/iTwo Plus and do they accept trade-in of mobile devices etc.

In fact i feel the price plan is abit pricey. Don't know should i left out data plan to save my pocket. Is there any short-coming as i still can rely on WIFI.

Ya. I guess so data plan mainly for GPS or light web surfing in MRT maybe? But just how often we will need that. For cheapest iFlexi of 1GB data bundle is not much. Unless you go for BOM 1000 which offer up to 50GB @ SGD22.42 monthly but again that's remain a question whether that's applicable to iphone plan. My main concern is to get the MIO plan to replace my M1 broadband. M1 sucks. Any other suggestion?

mobile phones in SG are not allowed to be locked.

Singtel's 3g iphones are unlocked.

In Aus, the iphone optus prepaid 16gb was going for A$849 + A$80 which is approx S$1161.25.

The iOne Plus plan total cost is S$1464.32, which is about S$303.07 more then if I purchase it in Aus and I get 24 months usage of calls + sms and warranty.

iphone warranty is only valid in the country of purchase (means if you buy it in Sg, then warranty is valid in Sg only. if you buy it in Aus, then warranty if valid in Aus only). iphone warranty is not international.

Maybe NZ Telecom's SIM card is like one of the Japanese SIM cards, which are not compatible with anything but their own phones? I find it hard that Vodafone NZ specifically block NZ Telecom sims only, and not the foreign sims.

you reckon? i didnt try it in other phones though.

Japanese carriers uses W-Sim which are not compatible at all with any other phones around the world other than their own. Which is the reason why we dont see phones from KDDI, or NTT DoCoMo outside of Japan.

On a somewhat related news, Vodafone India is selling their iPhones at these prices:-

8GB - 31000Rps
16GB - 36100Rps

http://www.macworld.com/article/135099/200...l?lsrc=rss_main

I'm not sure if the news translate to a non-contract or not, nor do we know its unlock/locked status.

There is no point doing this unless the status of the iPhone is confirmed: locked or unlocked. Once they are confirmed unlocked, there is the mess of getting it with plans. Even with the Indian or Filipino iPhones, you need to know whether they accept foreign sims.

These carriers bring them in at great risks of either winning or losing customers, and/or to see if their collaboration with Apple works in their favour. I totally understand why they are protecting themselves by locking the sim to their own only.

Local Data means u only able to use it (1GB,2GB or 3GB with iFlexi plan) within SG. Outside SG, roaming data rate will be charged accordingly.

iFlexi plan is the newly created plan cater for Iphone only. It comes with Voice plan + Data.

The iPlan is only voice plan. You have to get Broadband on Mobile (BOM) as a value added service (VAS) if you want to use 3G.

i expect singtel to sell sim free iphones. there is a rule from IDA singapore which did not allow locked phones to launch officially in singapore.

@icycokes

I dont wanna be a buzzkill but you've just quoted my question regarding the unlocked SG iPhone part. IDA may not allow phones to be locked in SG, but locked among its three carriers, or totally unlocked? I'd rather be looked upon as the bad guy here and spoil the party with this warning that the case may be it is not locked AMONG its three carriers, but still locked within these 3 (Singtel, M1 and Starhub). You had better make sure that the iPhone you're getting is really unlocked, otherwise bring back to Malaysia and put in your sim, and face the INVALID sim sign. Then end up having to use sim-unlocker which are shoddy at best.

Be completely sure that they are unlocked to foreign sims as well before attempting to buy. The cheapest plan is still RM4000+. You dont want to end up spending that much and still have a locked iPhone.

Sigh, this is like the umpteenth time I tried to explain this, and still people dont understand. I'd rather be a skeptic and save myself a ton of money than to be a willing optimist and wasted RM4000+

Sim locks that restricts only sim cards from its country of origins are the general practice, that's how the previous iPhone EDGE launches are handled! Otherwise I can simply slip in my Celcom sim inside an American iPhone and not even have to worry about unlocking it. doh.gif

No point lining up, if you dont have that email invitation and details. If you had not registered interest and not received that reply email from Singtel, you will not be considered for an iPhone 3G from them.

IF i not wrong, the line now is under my brother's name. Cause he said 1626 gave him wrong info "Number Port different account also can". So i think the line now is under brother's name.

Student got $50 off ther iPhone price and can get student plan + bbom. My bro now is student plan

CONCLUSION (ALREADY GOT PHONE)

iTwo Value (Student Plan) + BBoM 1000 (1st Month Free, 3 Months Contract) = iPhone 16GB Price: SGD458 ( $508 - $50)

Quoted from hardwarezone forum

So anyone knows the exact cost of iPhone 3g including early termination fees for 3g iPhone?? Hmmm

As stated in SingTel iPhone 3g FAQ

4. Termination
4.1 Is there any termination penalty for pre-mature termination of price plan? What will be the penalty for terminating price plan when there is an existing equipment contract?

The current policy for termination still applies.

Current policy on equipment penalty:
Termination of price plan within 1st to 12th months with 1-year equipment contract is $160.50
Termination of price plan within 1st to 24th months with 2-year equipment contract is $374.50

Just now you mentioned earlier 800SGD as early termination fees. Can link me to the source so I can read more details on it. As in need wait how many month only can unlock and what other fees included etc etc..
*
This was never mentioned on any of the Singtel online plans. A few of the HWZ folks called Singtel on 1626 and got that info from the Singtel personnel while on the phone.

there is a way to "minimise" my lost; find someone in singapore who needs the minutes/tariff more than i do (or doesn't appreciate the iphone). that way, i'm actually "subsidising" his line rental.

That's the part I dont like, "subsiding someone a free line". I have this principle that whatever I buy must be owned and only used by me only. If I had to share it with someone, that someone also have to share the burden of payment.

This "forced subsidization" is not something I'm keen of.

it is a win-win situation i reckon.

in reality, there are many people who doesn't mind using a crappy phone. since he/she needs to maintain the contract/require the minutes anyway, how is that a disadvantage situation for any of us?

unfortunately for many of us, we don't have the opportunity to travel around to obtain the perfectly unlocked iphone.

as far as i'm concerned, i have not broken any sorts of rules or attempted to obtain it illegally.

and on the plus side, my strong lust for an iphone is actually prospectively benefiting someone. instead of paying 800 sing dollars (or move) directly to the telco provider, it's better that we can compromise to create a mutual and symbiotic relationship.

Lerrr, why the sudden flare up lah? It's too late for that already, 2 am. If I'm using my privilege of "travelling around" and gloating over it without offering that same privilege to others, then you can be cynical about it lah, brader.

You may think that it is benefitting someone, but not everyone think the same. I just dont like paying for things I dont use.

you will be surprised that i'm actually laughing my arse off to the osama lookalike beard scene (from harold & kumar 2) as i'm typing now.

so rest assured, i'm not flaring up or getting anywhere remotely close to that. besides we have already debated a few times before, hence i pretty much know what to anticipate anyway tongue.gif

in addition to your statement; i don't have to care about what everyone thinks, so long the mutual understanding benefits the contract holder and i (without any law infringement)

As do I, all I'm saying is my opinion. And since when's opinions are being considered threatening here that you'd have to come in aggressive like this? This is not a popularity contest, this is a FORUM. And last I check, forums thrives on differing opinions. shakehead.gif

Again, to each his own. I just dont like paying for something I'm not using. It is the same principle I held when the cutthroats here are asking you to pay RM5000+ for their iPhones here, which would most probably bought with a subscription plan, and asking you to pay for it, and you only get a phone while they are free to use the said plan. The only difference here is that the SG plans are looking to be cheaper than that ridiculous cutthroat price, but the principle remains the same. I'm not paying for someone else's conveniences.

har???!!! how is that being aggressive? i was merely expressing my own opinion as well and i have already gave my assurance that i'm not flaring up etc. perhaps you should do a quick self check before pointing your finger at me to keep our discussion on track?

What's probably going to have me slapping my forehead later is that all this virtual sparring and the SG iPhones ends up locked to Malaysian sims. Irony has a brand new meaning if that happens.

FAQ from SingTel:

Will my iPhone work with a StarHub or M1 SIM?

It may work but you may not enjoy the same iPhone experience as SingTel only supports iPhone 3G devices that are connected to SingTel’s network

does this mean the iphone 3g in spore is unlocked?

@vex,
If that's for the 16GB version I guess it's quite alright. A lil more ex than NZ but still within 'reasonable' grounds.

Then it is settled. You can use the Singaporean iPhone 3Gs with Malaysian sims. If it works with DiGi, it works with others too.

Now the big question, are the last 5 in my list wanting to go this route? Your funds are with me, I can refund it back to you any time. I dont feel comfortable holding other people's money.

So anyone calculated the cheapest cost for iPhone 3g, including $800 SGD for termination??

I suppose is iTwo Plus :

3 month subscription = $82.93 X 3 = $248.79
Cost of iPhone 3g 16gb = $208
Early termination fees = $800

Grand total = $1256.79

Is this the price? Please correct me..

Totally not reasonable coz is damn expensive, for my personal opinion.
Currently i'm using prepaid from starhub and 2-3 months only reload 28 dollars. On that specific amount i have 28 dollars for international calls and with bouns 100 dollars for local call, each time i reload with 28 dollars. Even sinktel also having this prepaid plan but M1 i'm not sure.

QUOTE(Shoki @ Aug 23 2008, 01:05 AM)
So anyone calculated the cheapest cost for iPhone 3g, including $800 SGD for termination??

I suppose is iTwo Plus :

3 month subscription = $82.93 X 3 = $248.79
Cost of iPhone 3g 16gb = $208
Early termination fees = $800

Grand total = $1256.79

Is this the price? Please correct me..
*
Shoki,

U might need to check with Singtel if you early termination of contract, do u need to pay the REST of the monthly subscription of the contract or just the 3 months subscription? As for SGD800, that one is pasti kena as a penalty.

@Masamune
That's only my personal usage and opinion, maybe your uncle is heavy user.

@rx330
Let's say if you looking for cheaper plan, for my personal view is Ione cost around 30 dollars per month. If you staying in singapore u can get free wireless any where, so don't need any data plan for that too. Although might be a bit slower but it save you more, while at mrt just play game or listen songs lo...no need to surf. nod.gif

Ok guyz. Good news. My Maxis SIM card is working fine in my 16G white iphone. On roaming with Singtel Network. Same to my Starhub prepaid. U have access to all the network setting in the phone.

Didn't test out the 3G on my Maxis SIM because I don't have the service.

To my opinion, the postpaid service in SG still expensive compare to prepaid. Postpaid have lots of extra charges for Caller-ID, auto-roaming etc while all the prepaid comes bundled. U dun nid to pay extra for the services.

If not because of the Iphone, i will stick to prepaid plan. Free minutes and sms doesn't really apply to me as mostly i make calls back to m'sia.

So if u wan to subscribe to postpaid just for iphone. My suggestion as below after long survey and compare on the pricing.

Package 1 (i'm using this):
iOne Plus @ 24
BBOM 1000 @ 16 (after 30% discount for 12 mths contract) - here you get 50GB of data
Iphone 16G @ 848

Package 2:
iFlexi @ 56 (u get 100mins more on talk time, 1GB of data only)
Iphone 16G @ 508

Price of 24SGD and 56SGD above only applicable on first 3months. After that you have to factor in the extra value added service (Caller-ID @ 5.35SGD per month)

Connection fee of 10 and SIM card fee of 30 apply to new line application.

So leave it up to u all to decide.

I forgot to ask about it. Perhaps you can find it out for me when u get urs.

However, in the contract, there is clauses as below:

Item 1: Service Plan: iOne Plus
Item 2: Equipment Model: Apple Iphone-16GB White
Item 3: Price payable upon downgrade of service plan (excl GST): $350
Item 4: Price payable upon termination (excl GST): $350

there is another clause:

For customer purchasing the iphone together with a new subscription contract, any subsequent handset upgrade shall only be permitted no earlier than 12mtns prior to expiry of the said subscription contract. An amount of $300 shall be payable for such handset upgrade in addition to the price of the handset. A $800 downgrade charge shall be imposed in the event of any downgrade of subscription plans (including Classic to iOne plus and P700 to iTwo Plus) at any time during the respective subscription period.

That's all.

Dun go for that. That's only 500MB data per month. Go for the BOM 1000. Current promotion of 30% discount so you just pay around $16 per month for 50GB data.

How about if we Malaysians were able to find a student to sign up for us the following student plan:

(Student) iOneSuperValue >> SGD 15/month

Student plans are given a SGD50 discount on the iPhone handsets. Assuming this follows the iOne Plus handset rate, student plan iPhones 16GB will cost SGD 798.

So in total with the minimum 2 year contract, that would cost us (15*24months + 798) = SGD1158 / MYR2700+. That price seems alright. We get the phone and we pay the lucky student one lump sum to use a plan for 2 years. Only thing is student cannot use iPhone which suits me fine...hah. If you're really cheapskate, you could always negotiate to only pay for 1 years plan tongue.gif

Not sure if this has been mentioned but apparently foreigners (ie Malaysians) have to pay an extra SGD200 to sign up for a call plan there. So... thats another RM500 unless you ca find someone Singaporean to sign up. I wonder if the same applies to foreigners with working pass...

you need to be singaporean/PR or sg workpass holder to sign the plan.
there are a few type of workpass.
the common ones are work permit, S pass and E pass.
with work permit, you have to deposit sgd200 to sign the plan.
as for the rest, you can just go to sign up any plan without deposit.
i heard they only allow foreign worker to sign one plan at one time.

hope it helps. smile.gif

i'm afraid no. you will need a singaporean friend or relative to sign up a plan for you.

how you negotiate with seller/friend etc. To compare with NZ is difficult. If profit not included, nz slightly cheaper and no headache.

there isn't any prepaid plan for the singapore aifontrigi yet at the moment, unfortunately.

you need to get someone who's a singaporean who is willing enough to take up just the plan while leaving the iphone for you.

in my case, tough luck, my singaporean friends would rather take up the plan together with the iphone for themselves.

i think, i'll try persuade my aunties and uncles. shouldn't be a problem for them if they see the plan fits as they don't have a clue what's this iphone hype all about. heh.

It's up to you, pay them in advanced or terminate the account after 3 month.

Added on August 24, 2008, 4:56 amJust to inform, when OTB, you can change APN. Fw 2.0.1, serial number for aifontriji singapore starting with 86833.
