Just got back from Sapa.

Took the overnight train to Sapa because is easier to sleep with a flat bed. The track will have quite some bends because of the mountainous terrain. So you will rock left to right during the train ride.

But took the bus back to Hanoi cause the bus will reach Hanoi at night and don’t have to spend a night on train or on bus. But if you want to save a night hotel then better choose overnight transport.

The weekends at the lake is definitely quite enjoyable. Seeing all the locals enjoying themselves with many street arts and performances. The water puppet is quite good. The puppet masters can really bring life to the puppet. The IO show in Saigon is also good.

Generally booking through a tour operator will make your life easier. There are many operators for Sapa trekking, so you just need to find the package you are interested with. As for the transport, you can ask the tour operator to arrange for you, either travel through bus or train. You can choose either depending on your time constraint. Maybe choose both for go and return just to complete the whole experience.

Once there, take the time to learn about the local communities as they have a different culture and history when compare to Vietnamese.

I chose Ethos Travel Sapa. They are more into social enterprise and you got to experience staying in the guide house for a night. There are quite a number of operators, so you just see which one suits you the most cause some provide housing in big hostel and some have local experience.

And if you are into trekking, just make sure you have proper shoes cause the trek can get very slippery during raining.

2 years back i went there. I used UBER. I believe grab should be available. Perhaps using grab would be more economical compare using your hotel transport.

I am going Hanoi tomorrow. Have fun guys!!!

Do keep us posted of your itinerary.
If you happen to be in Sapa, do share your program especially the cable car ride.

Thanks.

SaPa is nice and cold...its definitely more for chilling while drinking coffee, enjoying the cold atmosphere

One of the more popular activities there to do is trek through the village where you can see real hillside living culture and villages. I went there in September for their annual Vietnam Mountain Marathon - you guys should try it too

da lat is a southern city, way more south than da nang which is a beach city...it's not gonna be cooling

and define boring for hanoi?
all the places u go to in vietnam, u don't just stay there in the city alone...the good stuff are all outside of where u land
