@Pennywise,
Scratch Chalet, Equatorial off ur list - the environment/setting is OK but the food is lousy! For that kinda price, go elsewhere biggrin.gif

LaFite serves mostly French food so if ur gf isn't up to being adventurous don't bother. It would however sound impressive biggrin.gif

Perhaps U could let us know what kinda food U are looking for?

@Pennywise,
I've never been to LaFite but I've a feeling that'll be a good place - let the Captain know it's ur special night and let him in on ur intentions - perhaps he could throw in something special for U biggrin.gif

Am not sure if there are musicians @ LaFite like in Chalet though. Good Luck in ur plans and haf a great marriage biggrin.gif

@P.I.M.P./Pennywise,
Find a friend who holds the Shangri-la membership card. U get 50% discount @ LaFite [lunch]. Dinner on the other hand is uhm... 20/25% discount I think.

@P.I.M.P,
Haf just checked - with the Shangri-la membership card [Prestige Platinum], U'll get a flat 20% discount @ LaFite during dinner.

Prestige Platinum members are accorded the following dining privileges (at all participating outlets being Shang Palace, Lemon Garden, Zipangu, Lafite - lunch full dining benefits & flat 20% off for dinner, Lobby Lounge & The Pub)
1) 20% off when dining alone
2) One portion of the food bill is free when 2 or more people dine: Eg.
When 2 people dine: 50% off on food bill
When 3 people dine: 33% off on food bill
When 4 people dine: 25% off on food bill

It's not really 50% discount but if U look at it, when 2 people go it's more or less about 50% discount *grins*

I believe U can purchase this annual membership @ RM499 p/year [am not quite sure if it's RM499/699].

Alternatively, bring me along cause I've got access to the above dining privileges *grins*

@cassplayer,
I don't think they're going to need or want babysitters for this affair *grins* And I said I teach, but I never said I was a teacher!!!!!! tongue.gif

@Tsukasa,
Either ur a bad photographer [oK oK.. it's not ur fault; but the camera!] or the food doesn't exactly look too appealing to me! *grins*

So, after the discount how much is it on total bill?! RM120?

PS: Do they actually check / match the name of the Prestige Platinum card to the CC U use to pay?! I wonder if I could just pass the card to the folks and let them use it; I probably won't be making much use of it.

@sharkteef,
I think it's oK to experience it; oH.. and I think I'm a lil wee bit younger than U are *smiles* I don't think the people who look at 'value for $' are above 40 - they just happen to be those who know the value of $ and that $ doesn't drop off the sky tongue.gif

@Tsukasa,
I know - I was just teasing tongue.gif

@P.I.M.P,
I haven't been on a "romantic" night out for *cough cough* like ever so I realli don't know! My take is that the restaurant CAN make some form of arrangements but it will be at your cost. If it's something they oredi haf [a string quartet for example] U probably can get it FOC.

Once U've decided on the place perhaps U could call them up or go in and discuss with them in detail. If U realli want something v romantic, perhaps U could consider renting a hotel suite and having dinner at the suite - go for the Villa's @ Sunway.

Let me go through the vouchers Shangri-la sent me together with their Prestige Platinum membership card. I think there just might be an exclusive 'romantic escapade' package which includes a hotel stay + dinner for 2 @ LaFite. I don't think it'll be of use to me - if U want, I guess I could sell it to U.

PM me if ur interested cause I need to check what the T&Cs are. It might require me to make the bookings and pay for it in person but if it's Shangri-la KL, I'll make that trip just for U lah since it's ur special night smile.gif Am sure we'll be able to find a way to work around the T&Cs.

When do U intend to make ur move btw?!

@P.I.M.P.
AHhH..... well U can do ur research now.. oK.. Ur not proposing - TS is EXCEPT he seems to be v much MIA of late.

Are U abroad studying/working? Where?

AhHh.. I just checked the vouchers - there IS a special one called 'Lafite Suite'. Bearer is entitled to a 1 night stay in a 1 Bedroom Suite with 2-course Candle Light dinner (for 2) & a bottle of champagne in the room for RM998++

TS - I've NO use for this at the moment - if U want it, just PM me lah.

@P.I.M.P.
nod.gif And it's pretti 'cheap' too - I mean, just the room charges itself would probably amount to close to maybe RM1k p/night *shrugs* Yeah I should sell it off for RM1.5k.. muAhaHAHahHA...

If U decide on it when ur back U know who to PM - the voucher's valid till Jul '09 and I've a feeling it will remain unutilised *grins*

Mind me asking; where in the USA? And are U studying?

@P.I.M.P,
OT stands for 'Out of Topic' - I said we're going OT because this discussion thread was meant to talk about 'Fine Dining' places smile.gif

Some other suggestions to consider would be:-

1) Senses @ KL Hilton (Fusion) - Senses is run by the award winning chef Cheong Liew who is known for the Grange Restaurant in Hilton Adelaide. The restaurant has a romantic atmosphere and really really great food.

2) Zipangu Resturant @ Shangri-La (Jap) - Fusion Jap restaurant, very classy setting, excellent food. Run by the famous Nadaman restaurant from Japan.

3) Iketeru Restaurant @ KL Hilton (Jap) - Fusion Jap restaurant, different kind of classy from Zipangu. Features under the stars dining by the poolside.

4) The Dining Room @ Carcosa Sri Negara (French)- elegant opulent furnishing, within a mansion which was formerly the residence of British Governor.

@andrewcyw,
Bijan's a little overrated in my opinion but it does haf an a-oK environment. I wouldn't consider that as 'fine dining' though *grins*
