iPhone 2.2
Instructions by Maverick Wil (POST)

1. Is your iPhone jailbroken? If Yes, proceed to 2. If No, check 1A.

1A. You need to jailbreak your phone first. After that you need to set up SSH. Instructions for jailbreak and SSH are available on the first page of the "iPhone for Dummies" (link) under item #2 and #14 respectively.

2. Download the "Default.phoneformat" file : Attached File  Default.phoneformat.zip ( 9.47k ) Number of downloads: 702

3. Already have an SSH client (Winscp/Cyberduck)? If Yes, proceed to 4. If No, proceed to 3A.
3A. Download winscp for windows, cyberduck for mac

4. Transfer the "Default.phoneformat" you just downloaded into your iPhone directory under " /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.framework/ " using any relevant SSH clients.

Optional : Backup the original "Default.phoneformat" file in that directory first if you want to but it is not necessary.

5. Close the SSH program. Reboot your phone.
- Manual way : Hold on the iphone power button until a slider comes up, slide to off. Push power to on again.
- Automated : Using bossprefs or sbsettings press power and press reboot.

iPhone 2.1 and below
Instructions by Siawgu

Instruction for automated approach :
1. Open Cydia, select Localization.
2. Select Caller ID Fix Collection (ispazio)
3. Install, restart springboard.
4. For good measure, restart your iphone.
5. Done.

Instructions for manual approach :
(Download the attached zip file)
1. Open Cydia, select All Packages, Download OpenSSH.
2. Restart iPhone. Make sure wifi is on and connected to local router.
3. Go settings > Wi-Fi > Your connected router (Select the round arrow beside it)
4. Find the Ip address. Copy it down.
5. Download winscp for windows, cyberduck for mac
( http://winscp.net/, http://cyberduck.ch/Cyberduck-3.0.1.dmg )
6. Install and run winscp, cyberduck.
7. Insert the IP address you previously found into the Winscp/cyberduck config window
8. username : root, password : alpine
9. Use winscp/cyberduck, go to "/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.framework"
10. Unzip the file you just downloaded, and replace that file in the directory.
11. Restart iphone. Done!

Thanks siawgu!! This is confirmed working on my iphone.

Just incase anyone else is searching for this and is wondering how to go about the process, I have updated my first post.

Hmm it seems that it works for some and doesnt works so some.

Check the jailbreaking thread pinned. Currently the patch on cydia does not work, neither does the manual approach.
