difference between MY and SG set is not only the 1 year warranty claim.
lets just say if ur ps3 went "kaput" after 1 year warranty period, you can send to Sony Style Msia for repair. but needa pay $.
But if ur ps3 is a SG set, i doubt Sony Style Msia will repair for u even if u offer rm1mil for the repair cost.
so for sg set user, u either hav to send to 3rd party shops(have to choose wisely or else sure kena con) or u'll have to fly back ur ps3 to singapore to get it repaired.

By the way, there's a promo or something, by buying a game, you will get a second DS3 controller for free. I noticed that most PS3 games are single player, is it common to have a second controller?

Here's how i see it. After going through the threads here i learned that;

YLOD is the most common problem. This commonly hits the 60gb and 40gb PS3. Less likely on the 80gb version.(But the risk is there)

Lens is the 2nd common problem. Ive seen people using their PS3 to play copy DVD with no problem to those who gets dead lens after 3 or 4 hours play.

No display. Normally setting problem.

Basically if you wanna try your luck going for the SG RM 1300 version might be viable since the lens repair cost is RM 250 and YLOD is around 300.

Basically SG set + unlucky repair = 1300 + 300 = 1600.00

its always best to buy from official store, so whenever any trouble arise, u can send back to official shop for service.

Anyway, last time ppl buy from gameshop for "Modded" consoles, but since PS3 cant play "modded" game, therefore there is no reason to buy from gameshop. but its ur choice entirely
