PCI Express 2.0 is both backward- and forward-compatible. Backward-compatible means you can plug a 1.0 card in a 2.0 slot. That's expected. Forward-compatible is the converse: a 2.0 card will work in a 1.0 slot.

Yes sometimes it happened to my normal 4850 with OCed bios. Mostly during gaming. The driver was like lost at the mid of the games.

It's hard to attach the fan if facing to the back horizontally. I've lost 2 rubber screws bcos of assembling in that way, after dissembling few times . That's why decided to make it vertically.
