Here are some info that i've found regarding the new iPhone 3G and FW2.0 when i was surfing the net. Most of the issue are about the FW2.0 itself. It is found to be a bit buggy compared to the last beta version and affects the funtionality of apps downloaded thru AppStore or even the native apps. This can be fix with a future FW update. As for the hardware issue, take it with a grain of salt as this might be a QC issue at Apple factory or something else but this should be anticipated with a new or first batch hardware. Please read thru the article and understand it throughfully.

Not to scare you all whether you are future iPhone 3G owner or existing ones but merely sharing the info.

iPhone 3G hardware problems and FW2.0 hiccups

Here are some pics from macrumors forum showing minor cracks on the new iPhone 3G cover eventhough its not been drop whatsoever (according to the owner). Most of it affects the white iPhone 3G as its more easy to spot it on a white cover rather the black ones. As i said, this maybe an QC issues or random thing so again, take it with a grain of salt.

*Quickly check his iPhone 3G*

Nope, maintain sexy. tongue.gif

As for the software glitches or lagginess, this happens when you start installing Apps. I make it a habit to restart the iPhone after every major install. This is especially true with Super Monkey Ball, Scrabble and Foreflight. If you dont, you get weird glitches like booting out to Homescreen, apps hanging, etc.

Mine runs like clockwork, so no complaints here.

I mean, for the case of cracks and dings, it is all anecdotal evidences. You can choose to believe the guy, or not. If someone does have an agenda of making Apple look bad, then he can do this too. The guy could be already accidentally dropped his iPhone, tried to take it back for an exchange and denied by Apple, and took into making Apple look like the villain here.

All I'm saying is, anything is possible, and the guy may be right, or he may have something against Apple. Whether you choose to believe him or not, that choice is up to you. All I know is that my unit does not exhibit such physical defects, so I have no complaints whatsoever against Apple.

If this was meant as a comparison against the older iPhone in terms of durability, I've seen iPhones first generation in worse condition that you'd like to believe. Just because the build material have change does not make it any more prone to physical defect than the previous model. You just have to know how to take care of it. Some people just simply use it without regard of the iPhone and what kind of knocks and physical abuse it can handle.

Yup its a good habit to restart the phone after installing something to get it working fresh and the fix to it is on its way with FW2.0.1.

About the case thing, it MAYBE what bro String said and it MAYBE not. We just have to monitor the situation closely and if more user reports the same thing than MAYBE its true. We won't know for sure as the product just past its 1st week into the wild. Like i said, 'take it with a grain of salt' or 'innocent before proven guilty'.

There aren't exactly iPhone 3G users flourishing around here, at least not until String completes his revamped 'Tumpang' efforts. laugh.gif Even then, you'd probably have a max of 20-25 users discussing among themselves, wouldn't be much of a discussion...

Having to produce such masses would usually ended up with QC issues and prolly 100,000:1 probability of hving such crack issues, sensitivety, bla2..etc.. rclxub.gif
If it happens to u then its unfortunate yet its replaceable as now we hv options of purchasing the unlock type of iphone straight from provider i.e Vodaphone and such..by mailing it back or send it back to them.. rclxub.gif

As for software wise..i am looking forward to the new version of 2.0(2.01?) and i found that 2.0 im using is a bit lagging..others i dont hv much problem with except more 3rd party apps! used to hv lots of applications on 1.1.4 and suddenly limited to some on 2.0..can be very2 boring..and the phone looks..naked! sweat.gif ...sigh anxiously waiting for more new apps on 2.0 wub.gif

"Bullet proof material"? and BTW its not plastic. Its some kind of ceramic type thing with a hard coat that make it look like plastic.

Oh i have used strings`s iPhone 3g.. it does feel nice in the hand then the previous iPhone and it does not feel plastic. really has that satisfied feeling of holding on the device.Apart from that it feels slimmer lol ( although a hairline difference ) but yeah there is a noticeable difference.

IM a Iphone 3g user and i got it a few days .I used to own the iphone 2g.

IMHO,if u compare the quality of the iphone 2g and the iphone 3g,i ould say that iphone 2g is more solid compared to the 3g version.

In addition to the lagginess or the iphone 3g,rumours has that there will be a firmware 2.1 that we support a better gps and "cure" the lagginess of the iphone 3G....

after using iphone 2g,still feel that the quality is better and the firmware works very good.

maybe it takes time to update the firmware to be better.

Here's something interesting ..

QUOTE
Okay...

A few hours ago, I fell asleep on my couch and woke up from extreme pain coming from my pocket...

I pulled out my iPhone 3G which was extremely hot... i then placed it on the floor, for whatever reason, my phone burned my leg, and after looking back at my phone, you could definitely see melted plastic...

Has this happened to anyone else?

What do you think apple will say?

So far I can't remember where I read that the 1st gen phone have this problem as well(the phone getting very hot) while charging, never thought it will happen to an iPhone 3G even without charging the phone itself. How bout other 3G iPhone owner, do you guys have similiar problem?

Please, don't quote the pictures next time. I think it's because of battery issue, better claim for a replacement else it'll blow.. no joke.

Ii've read about the burnt iphone in iclarified news> apple news . This is a copy of the actual article:

"Apple News | iPhone 3G Overheats and Burns Owner
Monday, 4th August 2008, 01:08 pm
There have been numerous reports of the iPhone cracking; however, one owner has been burned by an iPhone in his sleep, according to an iPhoneFreak report.

The iPhone owner fell asleep for a few hours only to wake up with “extreme pain coming from my pocket.” Apparently during his sleep the iPhone overheated and actually burned his leg.

The owner said his iPhone was off and in his pocket, and he does not “think it was because it was pressed”. He also states that the phone was not jailbroken, the auto-lock was set to one minute, and the push email and 3G data were switched off.

Pictures of the iPhone seem to show some melted plastic around the dock connector. Also, the picture of his leg clearly show a red burn mark.

Apple is sending him a replacement phone."

Since the pix already been posted, i'm not gonna repost it... hehehe... too lazy, and also "curi tulang" in the office rite now.
