Norton 2009
Smart Security, Engineered for Speed

The 2009 releases of Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus were engineered to be fast, and light on system resources. Norton Internet Security provides comprehensive security against all types of online threats while Norton AntiVirus protects against malicious software without slowing you down.

Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus 2009 are based on the Norton Protection System, a multi-layered set of technologies that work in concert to stop threats before they impact you. The Norton Protection System includes an innovative new technology that uses security information from millions of users to pre-determine what files and processes are safe, and what aren’t. Coupled with Norton’s acclaimed Browser Protection technology for blocking web-based attacks and our enhanced SONAR technology for detecting unknown threats, Norton 2009 protects without impacting performance.

Great. I might buy it this time when it is officially out. Been disappointed since 2007 when some free antivirus outperforms Norton in both the speed and memory usage. As for detection, there is no antivirus that is virus proof but having one is better than none.

  • Both products together include 300 performance-related improvements, reducing both disk space and memory usage.
  • Symantec has also included a new technology that improves scan times in NIS 2009 and NAV 2009 called Norton Insight. Insight avoids scanning files in the first place by leveraging data from millions of Norton Community members commonly found on most computers and statistically determined to be trusted.
  • Symantec is claiming that the Pulse Updates feature will include "up-to-the-minute response time against new threats with signature updates streaming in near real time." In essence, the company is shifting its strategy towards employing smaller and more frequent updates.
  • The company is also touting a new silent mode which automatically suspends alerts and updates to avoid interrupting or slowing games and movies.

Nice features. I still hope there is an emergency disc maker something like my custom bart pe so I can be lazy instead of messing around with antivirus files and update them. lol

It's still bloated. Detection rate is good though.
