Hasbro Inc. Recalls to Repair Nerf Blasters; Child's Skin Can Get Caught in Plunger of the Toy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. (To access color photos of the following recalled products, see CPSC’s Web site at www.cpsc.gov.)

Name of Product: Nerf™ N-Strike Recon Blasters

Units: About 330,000 units

Manufacturer: Hasbro Inc., of Pawtucket, R.I.

Hazard: The blaster’s plunger can pull the user’s skin during firing of the toy blaster resulting in injury to the face, neck, and/or chest.

Incidents/Injuries: Hasbro and CPSC have received 46 reports of injury to children aged 4 to 12, resulting in bruising, abrasions, pinching/pinch marks, blood blisters and welts.

Description: This recall involves the Nerf N-Strike Recon CS-6 Blasters for children age 6 and up. The toy blaster is yellow with a black handle and orange plunger, trigger, and reload clip. The word “NERF” in black lettering is on both sides of the blaster and the word “ARMED” is indented on the orange plunger. “RECON CS-6” is on the gray cocking mechanism. There are five interchangeable parts including the shoulder stock, the flip-up sight, barrel extension, quick re-load clip and dual-mode light beam. Model number 63552 and UPC codes 653569272021 and 653569311218 can be found on the packaging. Only blasters with an exposed orange plunger are included in this recall.
Sold at: Wal-Mart, Target, Toys “R” Us, discount stores and toy stores nationwide from November 2007 through August 2008 for about $20.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy blasters away from children and contact Hasbro for a free cylindrical cover to prevent additional injuries.

Yeah, i saw that recall too. It affects those first-gen Recons which have the exposed orange-coloured air plunger which were sold last year in the States. They have since added a black plastic cap at the back of the air plunger for this year's units.

Anyways, the ones we buy locally are all the "face-lifted" versions with the black cap.

If so, then you've got the first-gen version... can call Hasbro and get your free black end-cap.

Yeah... don't really need the end-cap, its just to protect little kid's chubby cheeks getting pinched.

Theres Longshots  in TRU klcc not much left though , manage to grab one ;D! have a recon , Longshot , vulcan , and maverick now !

Didn't see the refill packs for other darts.

Got my longshot today and man its powerful!

TRU Bangsar, they had a couple of Mavericks, NiteFinders and also Vulcans. No refills there as well.

Waiting for the Streamline darts refill pack to be released and clips as well...

Man Longshot is really awesome. Had a hard time with the trigger piece of the shotgun though.. damn tight So when we wanna do nerf war?

Same... Wish the longshot has auto fire... Without the shotgun it looks like an rapid fire assault rifle from some sci-fi show

Now I am waiting for the Raider CS-36 (or 35 or 6[dunno which is final])

Darn... Anyway, the Longshot really looks like a pulse rifle hehe... If only got auto fire.

this is how it looks like after some cleaning.

after the mod, the main gun became really loud. seriously loud(even with bullets)! but the range increased by a significant amount. where my modded maverick bullets would start to arch, the longshot bullet is still going straight (about 23ft)!  . although the bullet became a bit out of control, possibly due the amount of air pressure being force to it.

well, that's my review on it. 

Why is it embarassing ? I am sure most of us here are working age already or graduating. I carried the Longshot proudly to the cashier. lol

You know i'm started to collect some NERF stuffs after i bought the new NERF RECON last november. Until now.....

.....which potentially can be the most powerful. 

we're talking about the nite finder, right?

if yes, then it's true. a nite finder can be potentially more powerful than a longshot with proper mod. why? as i stated before, it's because it doesn't have a reloading mechanism, so the barrel can be air tight for better compression. although......no reload mechanism = gay  .
