Sorry for my ignorance, is this the ENglish version or Japanese? If English, I will buy the XBOX 360.

Yes, that is sad. I called and asked the game shop I usually goes to and he said that FFXIII is only for NTSC/U and not region free and the whole of Malaysia does not sell NTSC/U Xbox.

So, if I want to play, I had to buy the PS3 which is not something I am willing to spend on right now.

I called another just to confirm and the sales lady said the same. How sad.

Added on March 24, 2010, 9:09 pmSorry I am not clear about this whole XBOX and region lock thing.

I thought Australasia is getting on March 9, 2010. Same time with North America. If we are not playing the Australia set, then what set are we playing? Asian?

Checked in Wiki and found nothing about an Asian copy. WHY?!?!

Meh~I think Australian set PAL one..Same like Europe set.. If not wrong.. Some maybe sell the NA set one.. So you have to check you .. Maybe the Xbox manual got say what region..
If you got Aus set and its PAL... Then get your copy from amazon uk RM170 or even RM156 in ebay uk which is sold by some of them..Check they got do international postage before you buy.. not including postage.. They have loads of it.. Get CE if you want.. The price is dropping in Amazon.. but its round RM254... Use to be RM300.. Man! It just drop so much in just short time.. lol..

We are "supposedly" designated as Asian, in which having the same region settings as Japan. "Supposedly" because there's no official MS support for XBox 360 in Malaysia.

Ok, since we are designated as Asians and has the same region settings as Japan, wouldnt that make our FF13 Japanese set? Will we never get it in English?

Sorry, I am new to this whole XBOX idea, all just for FF13. As I am aware, we are getting Singapore set, is this NTSC/? or PAL like Australia's?

yes, we actually have to get FF13 for Japan, only problem is they didn't make FF13 for japan.
Singapore, Taiwan, HK, China, Korea and any other Asia country is using region NTSC-J, which is the same region as Japan. US is NTSC-U while Australia & Europe is PAL, so if a game is region locked, we can only play region NTSC-J

i hope it is clear enough to be understand. smile.gif

Hi xxboxx,

Thanks for your explanation. It is clear. One last question;

If Asia countries are using NTSC/J, which is same region is Japan. Does that not mean that we need to be able to understand the Japanese language to be able to play FFXIII?

Its like this.

Square Enix decided that it was a good move for them to release Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, only for the PS3 in Japanese.

For the US Market, they decided the English version will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Furthermore, they continued that it will only be in English, and for sale for XBox 360's that are of US region. Hence the region lock case.

Personally, I think its bullcrap to ignore certain parts of the market. Region lock however is necessary in the legal terms (as much as I would like to oppose it).

Our console region is NTSC-J, like those older consoles. PAL only avail @ AUS & EU

Actually our country's official designation is PAL, same goes to HK, as we are part of the Commonwealth. But since we are more fond and have easier to access Japanese devices most entertainment devices we got today are NTSC. However since PAL is still the official color system thus all broadcasts are still in that system.

Well said, my explaination always concentrated on the console sold in this region all the while but PAL or NTSC is not really a concern anymore. Most of our TV support both.

Guys,

Thanks for your explanation. I had thought that the XBOX will be my gateway to play FFXIII but then now it's not, it's yet another disappointment.

I will put this idea behind me now and come back later once Square Enix release this for our market. My, this whole region lock thing is terrible.

so are they NOT releasing FF13 - English at ALL for NTSC-J?

they probably gunning that the Asian masses buys a PS3. I wouldnt be surprised if the upcoming MGS Rising is region locked too.

THough this is OT, I believe there's a good chance Konami would release it for Asia, provided they are considering the Jap market.

If they are not, then tough luck.
