haha ~ iPhone 3G for rm4k~ rather get a MacBook~

today i read the newspaper~ regarding iPhone~

News:

Singtel (May) will be selling their iPhone at S$0 / unpredictable price with 2 yrs contract~ where New Zealand offering their 8GB iPhone 3G for free with 2 yrs contract~
Optus Australia cost A$79 for 8GB for 2 yrs contract where 16GB for A$89 only!!
HK Hutchinson Telecom to bond with montly payment of HK$498 to get the iPhone for free!!

so ~for a price at RM4k nono to me man~ ~

Is this news confirmed? So no-contract Singaporean iPhones are non-existant?

RM4k for an iPhones that is locked, is pretty daft move itself. RM2.8k for an out-of-the-box-can-use-straight-away iPhone is, IMO, a great early catch. The best deal is, and still is, the USD299/399 for last gen's iPhones, and still unbeaten.

Well, to be frank, the extras are more than just 3G. Engadget have taht video review detailing all the other extras. The way things are handled AND priced here makes it ridiculous to upgrade of course, but if you could get it close to what it is supposed to retail, it is no different than getting, say Nokia N95 or any of the brand new WM PDAs.

For example, I just need to top up another RM800 to get the 3G iPhone of the same capacity. RM800 for AppStore, 3G, and GPS is pretty good extras in my book. Plus, the possibilities from AppStore are endless, especially with the social networking apps.

Locked, or unlocked? If unlocked, unlocked to the 3 Singaporean telcos or free-for-all?

Yes, unlocked, but to what extent? Unlocked to only the three telcos, or foreign sims included? From the current pattern of the term "unlocked" in Europe , which also holds to the fact that they dont approve selling locked phones, their "unlocked" iPhones are only unlocked to use with the said country telcos only. If this is the case, Malaysia will still be locked out.

honestly i don't know why apple is doing this.  how about those frequent travellers?  they'll need to bring their phones everywhere they go.  makes no sense to me.

if you ask me, i think it makes more sense that the iphones in sg will be unlocked, not restricted to any networks.  i suppose no one can confirm this until the iphone is launched in sg.

One word: Roaming.

Telcos make money from this. I dont think want to let go of this cash cow when it is now a generally accepted practice.

Not yet, my unit arriving tomorrow on MH130 at 8:05pm tomorrow. Will be in KLIA to fetch it. Will bring the Digi and Celcom sim card I have too, to confirm it once and for all. The older iPhone I have will be calling the new iPhone 3G tomorrow. laugh.gif

Maxis HOPING (keyword = HOPING) to bring in iPhone 3G after Apple sorts out their supply shortage. No deals were negotiated or mentioned, everything anecdotal. But hey, at least it made primetime news here.

My youngest brother, whose with Maxis has an anecdotal confirmation of that news, but nothing specifically black-and-white or written, so I dont know, it can go both ways from here, I dare not speculate.

What is for sure is, concrete news of this will on surface once the next batch of coutries starts launching their iPhones. I've also the info that this move by Maxis will only happen once the Number Portability Scheme materializes. How true this is, nobody knows.

Everything I know is research-able online, you only need to take some time to look it up. smile.gif

My way of doing things is, if I plan to own something, better make sure I know it inside out. That way, I'll get use it to its full potential, and I dont get conned by people who are preying on my desperation and eagerness. We all want our iPhones, but we have the right to get them at the price everyone elses get, not bloated up to RM3.8-4.2k!

Well, looks like the policing systems here work! Streets are clean from rubbish once again. rclxms.gif

My stance on some of the more idiotic policies around here stays though.

Sorry,off topic:

The MNP will not kick off anytime soon.
Both MCMC and the telcos 'forced' to contribute to MNP have not yet iron out major issues.
The lawyers of the telcos are not happy that the company that that will be deploying the MNP is a RM2 company, and its many other information about the MNP are not transparent to the telcos.

MNP was to initially planned to be test run back in May, this is already August.

That's bad news indeed. The inside info I receive on my side indicates that the Maxis deal will only go through when MNP clears the starting gate.
