honestly i don't know why apple is doing this.  how about those frequent travellers?  they'll need to bring their phones everywhere they go.  makes no sense to me.

if you ask me, i think it makes more sense that the iphones in sg will be unlocked, not restricted to any networks.  i suppose no one can confirm this until the iphone is launched in sg.

One word: Roaming.

Telcos make money from this. I dont think want to let go of this cash cow when it is now a generally accepted practice.

that's true. i forgot all about roaming!

cos i'm seldom in asia, i have a post-paid sim card in aus. and when i'm back in asia, i get myself a pre-paid card.

locking to the country's networks will only mean more work for the staff but of cos more $$$

btw, u tried yr iphone with all msia's sim cards?

Not yet, my unit arriving tomorrow on MH130 at 8:05pm tomorrow. Will be in KLIA to fetch it. Will bring the Digi and Celcom sim card I have too, to confirm it once and for all. The older iPhone I have will be calling the new iPhone 3G tomorrow. laugh.gif

Don't think there will be so soon in Malaysia, if there were to be any. Malaysia is not in the list at all.... cry.gif

Maxis HOPING (keyword = HOPING) to bring in iPhone 3G after Apple sorts out their supply shortage. No deals were negotiated or mentioned, everything anecdotal. But hey, at least it made primetime news here.

So string...in your opinion, what do you think of this news? I feel like they (Maxis) sort of like talk before they actually act on getting themselves in the Apple list, feel like just using the iphone 3G heat for FREE advertisement.

I may be wrong...just my own personal feelings...coz nothing solid has been done, not negotiation or anything with Apple... hmm.gif

My youngest brother, whose with Maxis has an anecdotal confirmation of that news, but nothing specifically black-and-white or written, so I dont know, it can go both ways from here, I dare not speculate.

What is for sure is, concrete news of this will on surface once the next batch of coutries starts launching their iPhones. I've also the info that this move by Maxis will only happen once the Number Portability Scheme materializes. How true this is, nobody knows.

It's plausible for maxis to launch it after MNP as most users are 'bound' with their numbers to telcos. So after MNP kick-off, those restrictions will be lifted and people will rush (or not if the contract rates are exorbitant) to the telcos that have iPhone 3G.

Just my 2 cents (rounding up to the nearest cents does not apply here) biggrin.gif

Everything I know is research-able online, you only need to take some time to look it up. smile.gif

My way of doing things is, if I plan to own something, better make sure I know it inside out. That way, I'll get use it to its full potential, and I dont get conned by people who are preying on my desperation and eagerness. We all want our iPhones, but we have the right to get them at the price everyone elses get, not bloated up to RM3.8-4.2k!
