Anyone know what's the normal credit limit range for gold card from HSBC?

I was only given RM11k after 6 months of use, whereby my average monthly spending is RM8k and I always pay full, so I called up to complain.

I think it's likely because I'm a freelancer (i.e. no registered company - reason why I'm rejected by all other banks).

Anyway, I got fedup and applied for HSBC Premiere today only to find out that they increased my limit to RM20k because of my complaint.

visa & mastercard limit is max up to Rm300k . My last Hsbc classic is 35k but cancelled it already. My collegue gold card is 10k . But it will increase by year la.

Hmmm... that means no more diff between classic and gold? I always thought gold meant more privilleges and higher credit limit.

wirelessdude,

I think HSBC gold CC CL range should be quite wide, maybe even RM50k-100k
*
Wow! That means mine's awfully low.

Interbank cash transfer will take 1 working day to clear, if I recall correctly.
The money is deducted from your a/c, but not reflected on the recipient a/c until the next working day. It's the same, I tried transfer between MBB <> PBB vice versa.

Same bank transfer is immediate.

If you transfer before 11:30am, the money will be in by 6:30pm same day.

It all depends on the bank and your luck. I know someone who gets their CIMB cc credit limit upgraded every 2-3 years by the bank. However, you can trigger the CL upgrade faster if you send in the proof of your new income to the bank.

There are cases in this thread where CL upgrades happens very aggresively but please take note that those will not happen to every single cc holder of that bank nor it will happen just because you make prompt payment every month. Take myself for example, I have been paying my Citibank's promptly since the last few years and I only get a CL upgrade by the bank once around 2-3 years and my application for a upgrade is always rejected.

I always pay in full and never miss a payment ... go figure  rclxub.gif

Here's what happened to me (I'm a freelancer with no salary & business reg btw)...

Feb 08 - applied HSBC gold card, got CL RM9,500.

Aug 08 - automatic CL increase to RM11,000.

Sep 08 - called to complain about CL and CL increased to RM20,000.

Oct 08 - upgrade to Premier customer and given card with CL RM40,000.
(P/S: still can't find any useful privilleges with Premier cards)

Aiyah, card is free for life mah  tongue.gif

If that's the only privillege (which isn't one anyway since most banks waive the fees), I don't see why people would need more than one credit card. tongue.gif

Look at it this way. You put in 200K in FDs and get only 40K limit, is that considered high?  brows.gif

It's not all in FD but a combination of FD, unit trust and foreign currency. Well, most of the time it's just for ego because I don't see myself spending RM40k in a month. tongue.gif

Unbelievable, you CL raised to RM 40K in one year.... So nice, can apply and get most of the Platinum card.
You know what's so funny? While I can get a CL like that from HSBC, Citibank rejected my application for a basic AirAsia card outright just because I'm a freelancer - 2 total extremes! blink.gif

so in total you have 200k being hold by HSBC? no wonder HSBC dare to give u high limit

Regardless of how much I have in HSBC, the fact is I can afford to spend and pay in full RM8k a month yet I don't qualify for a basic AirAsia card. It doesn't make sense if you asked me.

Even before I was a Premier customer, the manager from HSBC took the trouble to evaluate me and write a letter to their credit card department in KL to make an exception - that's how I got the gold card first. Hence, my faith in the bank and why I chose to deposit all my money there.

Citibank will never approve ppl from freelance or events ... to them that's call high risk
Does being a freelancer automatically mean I'm high risk? Although a freelancer, I'm very established in my industry (write for magazines, interviewed by Frost & Sullivan, speak at seminars, etc) and my annual earnings more than qualify me for plat. I also hv fully paid property, car and zero debt. It's a no brainer if a human actually evaluated me but I failed applying even for a basic card because it's an automatic system. sad.gif
