It's standard practice for online shops to ask for the CVV verification. (3 digit @ back of your card) As I mentioned before, if you pay your Maxis bill online via the online system - it will ask for this CVV number. Always double check and see that the online store that you are going is reputable, check with your friends, Google for reviews, etc and if ever you feel uncomfortable buying something from them then stop.

No such thing as absolute secure in buying things online but most reputable online stores have invested tons of money to secure their system ... so your risks are minimised.

In case anyone asks ... I have bought many things online before. Have I got conned before yes ... but it is not due to an insecure system. The merchant just did not deliver the goods and services and I got my money back via the bank's transaction dispute system. If you ask me sometimes buying things online is better coz had you used cash ... you never gonna get your money back if you get swindled. With CC at the least the bank is there as your intermediary and will fight to get your money back if you get conned. (Genuine cases)

I have one question. Can anyone here confirm whether HSBC's Premier card is the equivalent of VISA Infinite ?

I spoke to HSBC's CS but the answer is very vague. My contact in HSBC's Premier says that this card is better than the Platinum card.

online transaction?
Majority, the process couldn't proceed if there's no
1) Credit card number
2) Cardholder name
3) Expiry date
4) CVV code

Try find a more reputable seller before giving all this information out. Lowyat's forum is a good place to ask, for example.

Woh, then I guess we hit a brick wall as all cards has annual fees, just whether they are waived or not. To be eligible for waiver, will depends on citeria set by the respective financial institutions, which varies tongue.gif

Use it every month to pay your utilities fees, then ask for fee waiver tongue.gif Else, direct use scissor and cut the credit card. Problem solved whistling.gif (well that's what i used to do when I'm asked to pay for annual fee)

Ini manyak susah nih......

My usual spending is about RM3K/month so I guess I would met most of the waiver criteria.

Lets do it another way, I'm applying Citi Plat and HSBC Gold. Do they have free access to KLIA lounge?

That's one way but as you are aware, some banks requires a min $$$ per annum spent before they will consider waiver, and these are all plat cards, so the amount can be substantial biggrin.gif

The thing is, would they ask you to pay for the annual fee even after you've cut it? Since they've charge you already

Apparently many of us were wrong all this while because HSBC Premier Mastercard in Malaysia is indeed only equivalent to regular Platinum Mastercard. The only thing to distinguish HSBC Premier Mastercard holders is that the only way to get this card is to become HSBC's VIP customer (Premier Banking customer). And within the HSBC worldwide, HSBC Premier Mastercard is viewed to have a higher status than their regular Platinum credit card.

And according to one of the RMs at HSBC, HSBC is still in the process to standardize their Premier Banking across the globe. Many countries' HSBC Premier Mastercard are already known as HSBC Premier World Mastercard, one example is Australia's HSBC. Very soon all HSBC Premier Mastercard will become HSBC Premier World Mastercard regardless of the issuing country.

You don't need 100K pa for a plat card. Most banks just looking at 60K pa so unless you are lower than that, you shd be fine tongue.gif
