You know what's so funny? While I can get a CL like that from HSBC, Citibank rejected my application for a basic AirAsia card outright just because I'm a freelancer - 2 total extremes! blink.gif

Put it this way, if you open a CitiGold a/c with Citibank they will also give you free cc as well. Any banks would for that matter tongue.gif

It's not all in FD but a combination of FD, unit trust and foreign currency. Well, most of the time it's just for ego because I don't see myself spending RM40k in a month. tongue.gif

so in total you have 200k being hold by HSBC? no wonder HSBC dare to give u high limit

Regardless of how much I have in HSBC, the fact is I can afford to spend and pay in full RM8k a month yet I don't qualify for a basic AirAsia card. It doesn't make sense if you asked me.

Like I say, go and open up a Citi Gold a/c and they will give you your choice of cards tongue.gif

But fyi its not how much you can spend per month that determines your income, and banks does have its policies and such. That's the breaks biggrin.gif

Even before I was a Premier customer, the manager from HSBC took the trouble to evaluate me and write a letter to their credit card department in KL to make an exception - that's how I got the gold card first. Hence, my faith in the bank and why I chose to deposit all my money there.

Does being a freelancer automatically mean I'm high risk? Although a freelancer, I'm very established in my industry (write for magazines, interviewed by Frost & Sullivan, speak at seminars, etc) and my annual earnings more than qualify me for plat. I also hv fully paid property, car and zero debt. It's a no brainer if a human actually evaluated me but I failed applying even for a basic card because it's an automatic system. sad.gif

Yeah in logic terms, freelance even earn more than a normal permanent position, however to some banks they list that as high risk not too sure why I guess due to freelance no fixed income and people doing events normally beforehand they'll owe here and there until they finish everything and of course the income is big, however bank dowan to take this risk I guess, if client to pay back the event and so on ..

Yeah AA card is just a very low grade one, normally easily approved but my friend in event line not freelance, she's hired by a company, position is marketing but under event, citibank reject, as I know her salary is fixed

the thing about credit card approval is very funny. But from what I know, they have this software that calculates eligibility. If what they key in is OK, then they will approve/reject depending on the risk level.
