The A-GPS in iPhone does show the CURRENT location even if you are driving a car (means you don't have to be stationary). This is more accurate compared to walking as it needs few seconds to refresh.
Your gripe with the iPhone GPS is not with the GPS itself but with the software. Google Maps in the iPhone is not capable of the turn-by-turn direction or visual routing as there are no functions built in to cater to that. Google Maps is just a ... well ... merely a map (which is useless if we use it in malaysia). To get turn-by-turn direction capabilities requires a software dedicated in doing so such as TomTom or Telenav. Sadly to say that such software might violate the SDK requirement. All we can do is just wait and see for an update on this. Hope this clear the air on the iPhone GPS capabilities, the shortcoming of Google Maps in term of a navigational tool and the future capabilities that can be harness from iPhone GPS system. |
