KUALA LUMPUR, 25 NOVEMBER, 2010: Malaysia records a 3.3 percent of property price hike of around the country from the year 2000 to 2010, Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Ukin reveals today in the parliament.  Lajim was answering Kuala Selangor MP, Dr Dzulkifly Ahmad on steps taken by the ministry to prevent property bubble especially at locations considered as hotspots while at the same time being fair and friendly to genuine first time buyers.


Lajim revealed that, according to the statistics, Malaysia is among the lowest compared to Singapore (38.18%), Hong Kong (12.74%) and Taiwan (8.57%).  Shah Alam MP, Khalid Samad, later refuted the statistics.

“The statistics is unreasonable since the price of house which used to be RM250,000 are now close to half a million,” Khalid argued.

Lajim stressed that the government are always observe the matter closely and is ready to build low cost houses to help citizen to own houses.  Sri Gading MP, Datuk Mohamed Aziz’s additional question on who determines the price of houses in Malaysia remained unanswered by Lajim who had instead repeated that his ministry is building low cost houses to overcome the matter.
