Actually DiGi had acquired the 3G license thru TIME (not sure which TIME) and in plans for a roll out within this year or next year. One thing that I'm not that thrill about DiGi is their coverage. Its not that 'extensive' as the other telcos. Sometime there's no signal in shopping complexes or in the elevator whereas other telcos signal are strong. Maybe its my phone or maybe not or just maybe they don't have enough yellow man to go around

But NZ sets no need to signup for any plan. U can just buy them outright like stringfellow did. And as my logic tells me, Maxis won't adapt to the NZ style coz this would not benefit them at all and we don't have any law that prohibit 'locked' phones. If Maxis DO intent to bring in iPhones here, they would probably do it after MNP kicks off. About the arm and leg thing, i'm just joking but there are telcos out there that charge exorbitant contract fees for the iPhone 3G like Rogers (i think) in Canada and Vodafone (?) in NZ (correct me if i'm wrong). We never know.

Right now we can just speculate and hope.

But Digi's coverage sometimes sucks big time.

Their service are better but coverage whats matter the most. I lost the signal even at the staircase of my apartment, what more to say at the basement. But like u said, comparing maxis to digi ... Digi is far better (been a maxis subscriber before).

They just need a 'black sheep' to blame on why iPhone is not officially in Malaysia.

But the Tooth fairy told me it will magically appear in Malaysia on 1st of April 09.

Still a rumor until the round Malaysian flag is in the Coming Soon part of the country availability.

No announcement in apple site means just a rumor. Maxis so big ka that Apple bow down to their demand to keep it hush hush. Putting/advertising it on the site will help more on the marketing side.
